Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: Artificial Life and Co-evolution

After the treatment, the Avengers returned to their respective homes.

However, Tony kept Banner behind, and the three of them secretly found a secluded conference room.

Tony sat down and said to Harry, "Right, before we discuss the main business, I need to tell you that the Security Council still doesn't intend to let Loki go, and Thor plans to take Loki away directly."

Due to pressure from several other countries, the weakened United States gave up the authority to negotiate with the Aliens; one has to say, this Ellis is indeed a spineless person.

As expected, these people didn't consider diplomacy at all—Harry felt somewhat helpless. Why not lean on a powerful ally instead of just waiting for the Avengers to make sacrifices?

Harry nodded helplessly and tossed a USB drive to Tony, which contained some details regarding the transfer of Loki and the Tesseract.

"Alright, now you know why I wanted my father to run for the general election, right?"

As Harry spoke, he turned on the holographic projection, entering meeting mode.

"So, what are we gathering here secretly for?" Banner was a bit confused.

Facing Banner's question, Tony thought for a moment about how to start.

"Let me say it. Tony wants to create a super artificial intelligence, then form a legion of iron soldiers, and use this super artificial intelligence to control the iron soldier legion to protect Earth." Harry finished in one breath.

Banner listened and looked at Tony.

Tony listened and looked at Harry:

"Thanks. I mean, you expressed my meaning well, but your phrasing sounds a bit cold-blooded. What I want to do is..."

Tony paused, seemingly thinking about how to express it better, but in the end, he gave up and said to Banner:

"Yes—that's about it. I want to put armor around this World."

Banner said: "Not to mention the fact that you want to develop artificial intelligence behind the team's back, the World you described seems a bit cold, Tony."

"I have seen a colder World." Tony looked at Harry, "He has seen it too."

Harry nodded, implicitly agreeing.

And strictly speaking, Tony hadn't seen a colder World—that was an illusion induced by the Scarlet Witch.

But whether the Scarlet Witch is born or not now largely depends on Harry; perhaps in the future, she will be a researcher in the Osborn magic and Technology Department.

"So you think so too?" Banner looked over.

Before Harry could speak, Tony answered first: "He said that would make human civilization incomplete, but it could advance further. We acknowledge the citizenship of the creation, no longer making it a simple tool, allowing the civilization on this fragile blue Planet to face threats with a stronger posture."

Banner seemed to hear something more interesting and frowned as he looked at Harry: "Uh, I must say this is indeed a much more humane idea, but it's also more outrageous—you know, I feel like we are discussing the settings of intelligent robots in a science fiction novel."

Harry shrugged. "Anyway, that's the situation. Now the decision is in your hands. Which side do you choose, Dr.?"

"Wait a minute, wait a minute, you two. Setting aside your ideological differences, we are discussing advanced technology. Why do you think we will definitely be able to overcome this technology?"

As soon as the words fell, the laboratory door opened.

A huge claw reached in; it was Dr. Otto who had arrived.

Dr. Otto greeted: "Hello, everyone."

Tony said: "We have the World's top research team and sufficient funds. If this technology is achievable, then it must be us who are most likely to achieve it."

Not to mention Tony; Jarvis is his classic masterpiece in the field of artificial intelligence.

Although Dr. Otto seems unrelated, his mechanical arms are actually quite powerful artificial intelligence. This thing was originally used to control a man-made small Sun in real-time, and its data processing ability is no weaker than Jarvis.

Then there was Harry. Banner looked at Otto and then at Tony, the look in his eyes as if asking: What about you?

After all, although Harry also has some inventive ability, he is still a bit inferior compared to these big shots.

Harry clapped his hands, a storage platform extended from the floor, and the Mind Stone was placed on it.

"I scanned this thing—don't look at me like that, I didn't steal it. For some reason, this thing is under my jurisdiction now; you can ask Fury."

While responding to Dr. Banner's doubts, Harry released the scan image.

The blue holographic image pulsed slowly, just like a brain.

The first time Dr. Banner saw this thing, he was shocked, walking around the holographic image: "This is truly beautiful."

Tony and Harry looked at each other, and both smiled and shrugged.

"If I let you guess, what do you think it is doing?" Tony said.

"Thinking." Banner said without hesitation. "I mean, this is not a human brain, but these things look like a neural network, these things look like neuronal firing."

Others had seen this scene long ago, but they were still amazed by it. The most restless one was Doctor Octopus's mechanical claws. Judging from the expressiveness, it's hard to imagine this thing is closer to the "Ultron" Tony envisioned than Jarvis.

Tony said: "This will be the key, whether you choose my Ultron or his civilization upgrade plan."

"Ultron? Is that the name you gave the artificial intelligence? It sounds like a fantasy." Banner said while circling the holographic scan, "Of course, the other one sounds even more fantastic."

"Then make your choice, Dr., which side do you favor more?"

Banner looked at Harry, then at Otto, and then at Tony.

"I want to ask first, which one did Dr. Otto choose?" Banner said.

Otto shrugged, "The latter one. I like challenges, and I don't like weapons development."

Banner was still very hesitant. He said to Tony again: "So, shouldn't we tell the team about such a big matter first?"

Tony sighed: "Dr. Banner, I'm not saying the team is bad, but the smartest people in the team—and the smartest people outside the team are all here. I don't want to affect our project because of endless bickering."

The Avengers had just completed their first assembly; they hadn't even teamed up to fight Terrorists yet. Banner was clearly still haunted by the arguments on the aircraft carrier and soon stopped dwelling on the team matter.

"I choose the latter one." Banner said, "It sounds more humane."

Harry and Tony looked at each other and smiled: "See, I knew Dr. Banner would also agree with my view."

Tony waved his hand in surrender.

"Very well, since we have chosen the second plan, we need to expand our research team."

As Harry spoke, he clapped his hands, and the holographic projection displayed the profiles of candidates.

"Dr. Connors, I don't need to introduce him. He is an expert in biotechnology and is currently in charge of the Bio-Era Project."

"Dr. Helen Zhao. She is researching a technology called the Regeneration Cradle, nanomaterials, used for repairing and printing human bodies. She can help us research the body materials for new life forms."

Halfway through, Banner interrupted: "Wait a minute, wait a minute. I thought we were talking about computer technology? artificial intelligence?"

Tony saw this reaction and teased: "See, Dr. Banner instinctively rejected your idea."

Harry smiled and said: "Dr. Banner, if you are talking about artificial intelligence like Jarvis or Dr. Otto's assistant, then that is indeed computer technology."

"But what I am talking about now is artificial life. We will mobilize the best talents in the World—not just in the field of computers, but also in life sciences, materials science, genetic engineering, bioengineering, neurophysiology, psychology, philosophy, economics, and finance."

"All, fields."

"We will create a form of life. They will be different from humans, but they will gain a place in this civilization."

"This new life, we will call them 'Synthetics'."

While creating new life, creating a brand new future World—this is the purpose of this project.

Banner was stunned.

"Create life? I thought we were talking about some kind of upgraded version of Jarvis? At most, it was a question about citizenship?"

Harry answered: "Go further. Form is just a shell; the key is sentience. This new creation, no matter what form it is, should think like a human, serve civilization like a human, and not be a tool."

Banner said with an exaggerated expression: "Whoa, that doesn't sound good. A superior race? Are you sure they won't replace humans?"

Harry shook his head: "We will deepen our understanding of life in this process. Creating superior life does not mean the creator stops progressing. The technological improvements we gain in this process will also act upon ourselves. This relationship is more like—"

Dr. Otto's claws moved, the atmosphere stalled, and Harry continued:

"Co-evolution."
