Chapter 11 - The truth.

Sienna

Somehow the truth came out faster than i imagined.I told her that I had met a guy at the bar, and I didn't know he was the Wolf King.

Gemma's eyes widened, and she glanced at my three children, her breaths became shallow.

"They're his children. Aren't they?" She asked, her voice low and weak.

I nodded, my eyes displaying weariness. I felt it bone deep inside.

It was too much, I had learnt too much. And I had said enough.

Gemma shook her head, her lips parting to speak but then closing after a couple of seconds.

"Dear Goddess," She breathed, breaking off into a mirthless laugh. "We're both a mess, aren't we?" She asked.

I nodded, pressing my lips together.

Now that I had told her, I had to admit I felt a certain weightlessness in my body. Someone else knew this secret instead of only me. And unlike Betty and Ama, it was someone that understood the implications.

To bear the children of the Wolf King was no small matter. It was, in fact, a statement. And it was one that would unwittingly involve me in the politics of the top werewolves in that world. Something I wasn't ready for.

My heart ached; if I had simply not given into him that night, that handsome stranger that turned out to be my mate, I wouldn't be facing such things this time. I would have been able to hide, to flee and stay hidden in the human world. But now I had to deal with something I couldn't handle.

"Will you help me? Please, Gemma," I asked her. She looked uncertain and I saw fear flash in her eyes. Panic seized me, and I grasped her arm. "pSister, Please. You know I have no other way—"

"I… I'll try," Gemma lowered her gaze, her lashes shielding me from her gaze. I didn't know what she was thinking, but I hoped she wouldn't do anything to put me and my children in harm's way. Somehow I managed to drop the topic. Suddenly the door slammed open and the sound was loud enough that it made my heart skip.

"Victor,"Gemma breathed, her eyes full of fear. I could tell by the way she stiffened, that she was terrified.

Victor walked in, his gaze fixed on me, then he glanced askance at Gemma, lips curling up in disdain.

Disdain, Unhidden, he had practically displayed how much he loathed his wife in front of me.

"WHat the hell are you doing here? Instead of helping your mother with pack duties?" He demanded, and Gemma lowered her gaze.

"I'm sorry. I… I'll go right now. I only came to see my sister–"

"Stop fucking talking," He growled, and covered his face briefly with a hand. He looked exasperated. And I could see the hurt and pain in Gemma's eyes.

It made me grit my teeth and speak up, "She came to see me. I'm sure if there was anything important to do she would attend to them. Give her a break," I stated.

Victor glanced at me, his eyes darkened at my words. Gemma pressed her lips together.

"You have only been here an hour and yet you act like you know what this girl has been doing," He snorted. "You are such a fucking fool, defending this little–"

"That's enough," I stood, facing him. I pulled Gemma behind me, heart aching for her. "You don't talk about her like that in front of me, or I'll–"

"Or you'll what?" Victor took a step closer. He was taller, and now, in his anger he appeared to tower over me. It was unbelievably frightening. Still I kept myself steady, intent on not showing any hints of fear. "WHat can you do? You're just some bitch. MAybe you think you can go about whoring around like you did to have those children–"

"Shut your mouth," I hissed, baring my teeth. "Or I'll ensure you don't have any children from now on."

"S-Sienna,"Gemma murmured and patted my arm, making me glance at her. I pursed my lips, seeing the tears glimmering in her eyes. "I'm fine. And… Please…" She trailed off, words unspoken. I nodded, agreeing silently.

I stepped back and watched Gemma bow her head.

Victor cast a darkly amused glance at her, snorting again.

"Come. Your father has some words for you," he stated, and I watched as Gemma bowed her head and followed after him. Victor paused at the door and turned to me with a smirk.

"If I were you," he said. "I'd pray to the Moon Goddess for the Wolf King to spare your life when he gets you."

I didn't say anything. No matter what, I didn't need to. He was too despicable, and if I told him the truth, who's to say that he wouldn't use it to his advantage?

I moved to sit on the edge of the bed. Caleb ran up to me, his adorable eyes full of worry.

"Mummy, are you okay?" He asked softly, patting my arm. I sighed and took his hand, pressed a kiss on the top of his head.

"I'm okay, baby," held him in my arms. Unlike Cleo who was soft and let me hold her anytime, my two boys were now more independent, protecting Cleo and even me. Caleb, most of all, always acted older than his age, like he wanted to make up for growing without a father.

My guilt resurfaced. If I had somehow contacted the Wolf King before now, would my three babies have lived a much better childhood. I did everything for them and gave them a good life, never making them lack for anything, even during the times of my long internship hours. However, if I had just been more open, could things have been better? Would the Wolf King have accepted them and helped me raise them?

I didn't know. There is really no medicine for regret.
