I wasn't sure what it was about being this close to Xavier that made me feel both tethered and suffocated at the same time. The tension was palpable between us, so thick that it hung in the air, pressing down on my chest. Every inch of space that separated us felt like a moment of clarity. The closer we were, the more my mind spiraled. But as I stood beside him now, I knew there was no getting away from it.
"Sienna," he said with a chuckle, his voice low and deep, grounding, as if he could somehow sense the storm within me. "We'll be home before the full moon run. You'll have time to rest before tonight."
