Chapter 55 - siblings

Chapter Fifty-Three: The Sibling Question (Again)

The morning after the saree and panche adventure, everyone gathered for breakfast in the hotel's garden.

The tables were pushed together, creating one long feast of idli, dosa, vada, and enough chutney to feed a small army. Coffee and chai flowed freely. The conversation was a comfortable hum of chaos.

Percy was recounting his struggle with the panche. "I tell you, that fabric had a MIND OF ITS OWN!"

Chethan nodded vigorously. "SAME! Every time I wear one, it's a battle!"

Akshi laughed. "You've been wearing them your whole life!"

"AND I STILL LOSE SOMETIMES!"

Mithun, calmly eating his idli, observed, "The key is acceptance. The panche will do what it wants. You just... go with it."

C.N. raised an eyebrow. "That's surprisingly philosophical."

"I have moments."

---

Jay sat between Keifer and Keiran, helping her son navigate a particularly slippery piece of dosa.

Keiran was in a good mood, swinging his legs, occasionally feeding bits to Rex.

"Mamma, this is yummy."

"It's called dosa, baby."

"Dosa yummy. Rex likes dosa."

"Rex has excellent taste."

Keiran chewed thoughtfully. Then he looked up.

"Mamma?"

"Yes, baby?"

"When are you and Pappa going to make me a sibling?"

---

The table went silent.

Every single person stopped mid-bite, mid-sentence, mid-motion.

Percy's jaw dropped. Honey froze with her coffee cup halfway to her lips. C.N. actually choked on his water. Rakii's camera lowered slowly.

Akshi's eyes went wide. Chethan looked like Christmas had come early. Mithun's calm expression cracked into something resembling amusement.

Shreya covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.

Jay's face went red.

Keifer's face went red.

Keiran looked around, confused by the sudden silence. "What? I asked before. Mamma said 'someday.' Is someday NOW?"

---

Percy recovered first. "KEIRAN! MY MAN! ASKING THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!"

Keiran nodded seriously. "Important questions."

Honey buried her face in her hands, shoulders shaking.

C.N. wiped his mouth, composing himself. "Well. That's... direct."

"He's three," Rakii whispered. "He doesn't know."

"He knows exactly what he's doing," Mithun observed. "Children are strategic."

Chethan leaned forward. "KEIRAN! Tell us! Why do you want a sibling?"

Keiran considered this. "So I have someone to play with. Keigan too old. He always on phone."

David snorted. "Fair point."

Freya smiled. "Very logical."

---

Mica joined in. "What kind of sibling do you want? Brother or sister?"

Keiran thought hard. "Brother first. Then sister. So brother can help with sister."

Calix raised an eyebrow. "He's already planning the hierarchy."

"Strategic," Mithun repeated.

Grace, holding Grazel, asked gently, "What would you name them?"

Keiran's face lit up. "Rex Junior! And Rexina!"

The table erupted.

Percy was crying with laughter. Akshi was holding her stomach. Even Mithun cracked a genuine smile.

Jay buried her face in Keifer's shoulder. "I can't. I literally can't."

Keifer was laughing too hard to respond.

---

Shreya, wiping tears, managed to ask, "Keiran, why Rex Junior and Rexina?"

"Because Rex is BEST. So second best should be Rex Junior. And third best should be Rexina." He held up Rex. "Rex agrees."

Rex, being a stuffed dinosaur, said nothing. But his button eyes seemed to confirm.

C.N. nodded slowly. "The logic is... actually sound."

"It's NOT sound!" Rakii laughed.

"It's sound in a three-year-old's mind. That's the only court that matters."

---

Bridget leaned toward Felix. "This is the best breakfast ever."

Felix nodded. "Absolutely."

David was already planning. "We need to document this. For future blackmail. I mean, memories."

Freya smacked his arm. "David."

"For MEMORIES!"

---

Jay finally lifted her head. "Keiran, baby, we talked about this. Siblings take time. And they're not something we can just... decide."

"But you and Pappa love each other. And when people love each other, they make babies." He looked at Keifer. "Pappa, you love Mamma, right?"

"More than anything, buddy."

"And Mamma, you love Pappa?"

"More than everything."

Keiran spread his hands. "So? Make baby."

Percy was practically on the floor. "HE'S GOT A POINT! THE LOGIC IS IMPENETRABLE!"

Honey tried to calm him. "Babe, you're not helping."

"I'M NOT TRYING TO HELP! I'M ENJOYING THE SHOW!"

---

Chethan leaned in. "Keiran, how many siblings do you want?"

"Many. Like—" He held up his fingers, counting. "One, two, three, four, five... all of them."

"All of them?"

"All the siblings. So many siblings."

Akshi gasped. "He wants a WHOLE ARMY of siblings!"

"Rex will be general," Keiran added.

"REX AS GENERAL! THIS KID IS AMAZING!"

---

Mithun, still calm, asked gently, "Keiran, do you know how babies are made?"

Jay choked. Keifer choked. Several people choked.

Keiran nodded seriously. "Special hugs. Pappa told me."

Mithun's eyebrow twitched. "Special hugs?"

"SPECIAL HUGS! Very special!" Keiran demonstrated by hugging Rex tightly. "Like this but MORE."

Percy lost it completely. He was on the ground, wheezing.

C.N. pinched the bridge of his nose. "We need to stop this conversation."

"We CAN'T stop it," Rakii whispered. "It's too beautiful."

---

Jay took a deep breath. "Keiran, baby, let's talk about this later. Just us and Pappa. Okay?"

Keiran considered. Then nodded. "Okay. But soon, Mamma. Rex is getting impatient."

Rex, held up, seemed to glare at them with button eyes.

Keifer pulled Jay close. "We're being pressured by a three-year-old and a stuffed dinosaur."

"Welcome to parenthood."

"I love it."

"I love you."

"Special hugs later?"

"KEIF!"

---

The conversation finally shifted to other topics, but the damage was done.

Every few minutes, someone would catch Jay's eye and start laughing again.

Percy made a "special hugs" gesture that Honey promptly smacked down.

Chethan kept looking at Keiran with newfound respect. "That kid is a LEGEND."

Akshi nodded. "He's going to rule the world someday."

"With Rex as general."

"Obviously."

---

Later, when the group scattered for various activities, Jay and Keifer found a quiet moment.

"Your son," Jay said.

"OUR son."

"OUR son just asked for a sibling in front of twenty people."

"Seventeen. And a baby."

"And a dinosaur."

"Rex doesn't count."

"Rex ALWAYS counts."

Keifer pulled her close. "So... special hugs later?"

She laughed, smacking his chest. "You're impossible."

"Your impossible."

"I love you."

"I love you too." He kissed her forehead. "And when we're ready, we'll have that conversation. For real. Just us."

"When we're ready," she agreed.

"Not because of pressure from a three-year-old."

"Never."

They stood together, watching their chaotic family scatter across the garden.

Somewhere, Keiran's voice echoed: "REX SAYS WE NEED TO DISCUSS BABY TIMELINE!"

Jay sighed happily. "I love our life."

"Me too, love. Me too."
