He does manage to note however, that she is also having issues using a quill and ink, as opposed to the pencils and pens that she, like him, used in school up to this point. Maybe it would be worth asking Flitwick if school rules permitted using pens, a thought for later perhaps.
Following Charms was Astronomy, which Harry is admittedly surprised about. Astronomy was a subject also taught in muggle schools, was it the same here? Harry's questions were answered when Professor Aurora Sinestra, a very tall dark skinned woman began her lecture. "Hello students. This is Astronomy, and I am Professor Sinestra. This class will teach you about the movements of the planets and stars and the effects they have on spellcasting and spellcrafting. For those of you interested in learning more of the foundations of magic for use in Runes and Arithmancy, this class will prove very important. Astronomy is also a critical component of Divination, which is used to provide insight into the future, as well as events beyond your normal perception. All three of those are electives you may take in your third year onward, but for now we will focus on the basics. Our solar system, that is, the group of planets that revolve around our star, the Sun, consists of eight planets. Before one of the muggleborn students ask, yes the muggles have discovered a ninth planet called Pluto, it however is not known to have any effects on magic, likely due to it's small size. The planets are, in order of average distance from the Sun…" Sinestra continues her lecture, and while Harry takes notes to refer to later, he thankfully has much of this already memorized from his earlier schooling. The news of Pluto is saddening to him though, and he internally cries a small tear for the planet.
Ravenclaw's final class for the day is History of Magic, and Harry is pretty surprised to find that the Professor for the class is a ghost. The ghost speaks out, in a long drawn out droning voice, "Greetings students, I am Professor Cuthbert Binns, and this is History of Magic. During this class you will learn about the founding of Magical Britain, the various wars and conflicts wizards have had with other species, and the formation and purpose of many groups significant to the history of magic. Now, Magical Britain was formed in 1689 upon the signing of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, which officially had Wizarding Britain separate itself from the muggle country…" Binns was head on into the speech, and his droll tones and minimal inflection made actually following what he was saying difficult as after a while it nearly devolved into just noise. Harry and Hermione are doing their best to take meticulous notes, but without any sense of what could be considered a key detail, they were scattered and unhelpful. For the first time today, Harry feels like a total failure.
As everyone is packing up, Harry and Hermione are trying to combine their notes into a usable whole. They managed to each catch a few key details that the other missed, but still find their combined sum somewhat lacking. The despair must be evident on their faces, because someone comes up to them. Two someones actually.
"You guys struggle with the lesson today?" a vaguely accented girl's voice shakes Harry and Hermione out of their stupor, and for a second they both believe they're seeing double as Parvati and Padma Patil stand in front of their shared desk.
"Yes actually, Professor Binns wasn't overly clear as to what details we should be looking out for, and he never stopped to ask any questions." Hermione speaks up. She appears to be taken pretty aback by her inability to keep up, it must be a pretty hefty blow to her ego.
"Mom told us that Binns was pretty bad, but we were just as surprised as you that he was THAT bad. Thankfully, we knew to be a bit more prepared. We're purebloods, so we got to learn this stuff a little early. How about you meet us in the library after lunch and we'll guide you through today's lesson, and show you how to handle Binn's class in the future." The one with the braid says, her sister, whose hair is layed out, nods beside her.
"Oh, that sounds great. Thanks… ugh.. Parvati?" Harry says, trying to guess which one is currently speaking. She's wearing Gryffindor robes, and Harry is almost 80% sure that it was Parvati that was put in the house of the lions.
"You got it right, although I can tell it was a guess. No hard feelings though, you'll learn to tell us apart in no time. After all, I got the good looks." Parvati says, flaunting herself.
"I got the better end of the deal, I got the brains and we look the same." Padma chuckles, and her sister puts on a look of faux anger. The quartet all share a laugh at that. "We'll see you guys after dinner. After that, the three of us can hang out in the common room a bit if you'd like."
Harry and Hermione agree, and the quartet gather their things and head to the Great Hall for dinner, where Parvati separates from them to go sit at the Gryffindor table with Lavender.
In the library, Harry,Hermione, and the Patil twins make their way to a secluded corner away from the few students who have made an appearance in the hallowed Hogwarts bookstacks. After a brief overview of today's History of Magic class, and a sincere thank you from the muggle-raised pair, Parvati asks a question that confuses Harry: "Can we write our parents and tell them about you?"
"Why would you want to?" Harry questions, he doesn't think he's anything worth writing home about.
