Chapter 181: Wild Boar, Kill It to Earn Points
"What!"
Shen Que gripped the toothbrush tightly in his hand, his expression grim.
He slowly drew the curtain aside, and he saw a wild boar over two meters in length, rooting in the ground.
Finding a cow bone, the wild boar began chewing on it.
The boar's teeth were so sharp that they were even sharper than a steel saw, crushing the bone.
The boar's bristles were also longer than those of wild boars from before the apocalypse.
Its savage appearance sent shivers down his spine.
"Let's go!" Shen Que pulled the curtain closed and decided to leave by car.
He threw the toothbrush aside, grabbed a glass of water from the table, rinsed his mouth, and headed to the driver's seat.
However, Meng Ci showed no worry.
After a moment, he looked around and saw no other wild boars. He then stopped Shen Que from starting the car.
"Shen Que, how about we catch a wild boar and bring it back?" Meng Ci thought.
Meng Ci considered that since their points were almost exhausted, catching a wild boar to exchange it for points might be a good option.
Besides, one wild boar could earn them a substantial amount of points, enough to let them slack off for a long time without drawing attention.
Furthermore, since they had successfully captured such a fierce wild boar, it wouldn't attract attention to bring out those damaged solar panels either.
After listening to Meng Ci's analysis, Shen Que nodded in agreement, finding it quite reasonable.
The two of them grabbed their weapons and exited the RV.
The wild boar had its back to them, focused on gnawing a bone, and hadn't noticed their presence.
Meng Ci took a composite bow out of his spatial storage, aimed at the wild boar, and the arrow shot out with a "swoosh," hitting the boar's backside precisely.
"Humph!"
In pain, the wild boar roared, turned, and spotted Meng Ci and Shen Que. It charged at them without hesitation.
Its eyes turned red with excitement.
It hadn't tasted anything good in a long time, and now, seeing humans, it was determined to turn them into its prey.
Unbeknownst to the boar, these two humans also planned to capture it and take it back for food.
Meng Ci and Shen Que reacted quickly, pushing open the door of the improvised house, slipped inside, and rushed upstairs.
Their quick movements prevented the wild boar from following them in time.
This allowed Meng Ci time to quickly retrieve several animal traps from his spatial storage and place them at the bottom of the stairs leading to the second floor.
Meng Ci had prepared these traps before the apocalypse, but he hadn't used them because others usually helped in previous hunts.
Now, they were ideal for handling the wild boar.
Eggplant did not follow Meng Ci and the others upstairs but stayed on the first floor to provoke the wild boar, so the two could hear the commotion below.
After setting up the traps, Meng Ci called out to Eggplant.
Hearing its master's call, Eggplant quickly dashed up to the second floor.
When Shen Que saw Eggplant again, he slightly raised his arm, and Eggplant immediately understood it was a signal to jump.
As it neared the traps, Eggplant leaped forcefully and easily cleared them, landing at the top of the stairs.
"Good job!" Meng Ci said, patting Eggplant on the head with a look of approval.
He had seen Shen Que train Eggplant to jump through hoops before, but he hadn't expected Eggplant to be so skilled.
Feeling appreciated, Eggplant happily rubbed against Meng Ci's legs.
Since there was no one else around, Meng Ci changed into shorts that only reached his knees.
Seeing Eggplant so boldly taking advantage of Meng Ci, Shen Que felt a surge of jealousy.
Unable to bear it any longer, he pulled Meng Ci to his side and glared irritably at Eggplant.
"No more rubbing like that!"
Eggplant stared wide-eyed, confused and unaware of what was wrong.
It let out a whimper, feeling wronged, not understanding what was wrong with acting spoiled with its master.
Seeing that Eggplant remained unconvinced, Shen Que secretly vowed to intensify its training when they got back.
Meng Ci paid little attention to the rivalry between Shen Que and Eggplant, focusing entirely on the staircase.
After Eggplant dashed up to the second floor, the wild boar followed without hesitation.
However, due to its large size, the boar's ascent was slow.
After turning a corner and seeing Meng Ci and Shen Que, it became even more agitated, snorting as it charged up the stairs.
Unfortunately, the boar's legs were caught in the traps, and the pain caused it to lose balance, rolling down the stairs.
Due to its heavy weight, the makeshift railing could not withstand the pressure and snapped instantly.
The boar lost its balance and fell from a small platform on the second-floor stairs.
Though the boar was thick-skinned and tough, the fall did not harm it.
With its legs caught in the traps, the boar struggled to stand up on the floor.
Seizing the opportunity, Meng Ci picked up his composite bow, walked down a few steps, and aimed precisely at the boar's belly.
The boar's struggles grew weaker, and Meng Ci and Shen Que were in no hurry to leave. After confirming that it could no longer stand, they returned to the RV.
By this time, it was already past eleven in the morning, and the two took out food from their space to eat.
They waited until around four in the afternoon before putting the RV back into their space and taking out the off-road vehicle.
By then, the wild boar in the house had already stopped breathing.
Meng Ci removed the arrows and animal traps from the wild boar. He also camouflaged the wounds on the boar's legs where the traps had clamped onto them and then dragged the boar out.
Next, they dismantled some wood from a large shed and fashioned it into a wooden raft. They placed the boar on it and tied it securely.
Then they attached the raft to the off-road vehicle, planning to tow it back.
They initially planned to place the boar on the roof of the vehicle, but because they were not particularly strong and were concerned about damaging the car, they opted for this makeshift solution.
The vehicle slowly drove away, and Meng Ci, sitting in the back seat, kept turning back to check that the boar didn't fall off.
The drive back to the base took over three hours, and it was now past 8 PM. Some industrious workers had already left their homes.
Noticing that the off-road vehicle was dragging something behind it, they shone their flashlights and discovered, to their astonishment, that it was a wild boar.
"Pinch me, I must be seeing things!"
"Is that a wild boar they're pulling behind their car?"
"Imagine how much this boar could fetch!"
...
After the floodwaters receded, it was unclear whether those fierce beasts had gone extinct or had retreated deeper into the forest.
Whenever people tried to catch these beasts to improve their meals, they could never find any trace of them.
Seeing the wild boar that Meng Ci and Shen Que had brought back, they were all envious.
Meng Ci and Shen Que ignored the exclamations of the people, focusing on driving the vehicle into the base.
Fortunately, Shen Que remembered that the points redemption center was near the hospital, so they didn't need to take any detours and arrived directly.
