Chapter 5: Pewter City
Travelling through the forest was quite a time for Lyra and Misty. Apart from Misty being afraid of bugs, Viridian Forest was so big so getting lost was easily expect Lyra could use her X-Dexter to get direction but she couldn't since Misty was running and kept dragging her everywhere.
Some good thing did happen though, Lyra caught a Caterpie and Wurmple along with a Finneon, they made a new friend who name is Samurai and when Lyra was battling both her Bug Pokémon fully evolved into Butterfree and Beautifly she was happy with it.
When they reached Pewter City, they were tired and exhausted especially Misty who freaked out the most. "Phew." Lyra said, "I thought that we will never going to get out of that forest."
"Me too." Misty said. "I'm just glad we're away from those bugs at last." They headed straight for the Pokémon Centre to get some rest.
Lyra gave her Pokémon to Nurse Joy right away, to make sure that her Pokémon were in tip top shape for the Gym Battle. "Thank you, Nurse Joy." Lyra said.
"Thank nothing of its Lyra." Nurse Joy replied.
Lyra blinked, "Huh? How do you know my name?" She asked, "This isn't Viridian City."
"My sister told me about you." Nurse Joy replied with a smile, "She even told me about the encounter with Team Rocket. Oh, and there's a poster on the wall beside me that you should see." The poster said the Indigo League was going to be held this year.
"Wow. I'm so going to enter the tournament." Lyra said.
Whiles Lyra's Pokémon were recovering; she and Misty were having a meal at a nearby café.
"So, you really are going to enter it huh?" Misty asked.
"Of course," Lyra answered, "I always wanted to enter it, I told you Misty that I was going to enter the Indigo League, wasn't I?"
"Will you be alright?" Misty asked, "I mean you will need Eight Gym Badges and the Gym Leaders can be very strong you know."
"Don't worry so much Misty." Lyra smiled, "I know that and how it works. Beside I looked up about the Gym Leaders before I left home. So, I know the Pewter Gym uses Rock Type and don't forget I have been training with my Pokémon for this. Especially Pichu and Infernape for the League."
Misty was impressed with Lyra; she thought that she would be one of those typical little kids but Lyra wasn't at all.
"So, what are you going to do about this gym?" Misty asked.
"You will have to wait and see." Lyra replied, with a smile. She didn't want to reveal her battle strategy to Misty until they got to the gym.
After finishing their meal at the restaurant, Lyra and Misty headed right for the Pewter Gym.
The Pewter Gym building was made out of giant grey stones, forming the shape of the gym.
"Well, here I go." Lyra said as she opened the door and entered.
"Who goes there?" A voice said from inside the gym.
"My name is Lyra," Lyra spoke up, "and I'm here to challenge your gym to win a badge."
"Very well," the voice said as he appeared out of the shadows, "I'm the Gym Leader Brock and I accept your challenge."
Brock led Lyra to the battlefield; the battlefield was a sandy floor with big pointy rocks in it. Misty walked to the side lines to watch holding Pichu and Pikachu.
"This battle is between Brock from Pewter Gym Leader and Lyra Mew Light of Pallet Town." Said the Referee, who Brock introduced as his brother Forrest. "Both challengers will use two Pokémon each. And who defeats both two Pokémon first wins Let the battle begin!"
"Alright Pidgeotto! I choose you!" Lyra shouted out and Pidgeotto emerged from its PokéBall.
'A Pidgeotto?' Brock thought, 'The size of the Pidgeotto is different to the normal Pidgeotto. That's a big mistake anyway, surely, she knows that rock beat flying.' "Alright go Geodude!" He shouted.
The Pokémon is a grey boulder Pokémon, it has bulging, rocky eyebrows and trapezoidal, brown eyes. It arms are muscular with five-fingered hands.
Geodude, the Rock Pokémon.
Geodude is often found on mountain roads with half of its body buried in the ground so it can observe mountain travelers.
Brock ordered his Geodude to do Rock Throw, but Lyra told her Pidgeotto to use Aerial Ace to dodge the rocks. Lyra told Pidgeotto to use Sand Attack to slow down Geodude. Then she told Pidgeotto to use Steel Wing continuously on Geodude which work after six Steel Wing Attack Geodude fainted.
"Geodude is unable to battle." Forrest called out. "This battle goes to Pidgeotto!"
Brock was amazed with Lyra battle strategy. 'She taught her Pokémon a move that beats Rock Types,' he thought, 'this kid is good but let's see how good.' "Okay Geodude return." Brock said, "Go Onix!"
The Pokémon resembles a giant chain of grey boulders that becomes smaller towards the tail, there is a rocky spine in its head and a pair of black eyes right beneath it.
Onix, the Rock Snake Pokémon.
By twisting its large body and powerful body, Onix can quickly bore through the ground at fifty miles per hour.
"Pidgeotto return!" Lyra recalled her Pokémon wanting to try Beautifly new egg move, "Beautifly I choose you!" Brock and everyone that was there expect for Misty was shocked seeing a Bug Pokémon they have never seen before.
Brock looked at it, it was a Bug Type but he can't underestimate Lyra. Brock ordered Onix to use Sand Storm but Lyra countered it with Gust, then he ordered Onix to use Rock Throw.
Lyra told Beautifly to Double Team. "Beautifly use Silver Wind!" Beautifly wings glowered and flapped her wings, winds of gust but it was silver hit Onix hard.
Misty eyes sparkled when she saw that moved. "Oh My God! That was beautiful!" She shouted out. "I wonder if my Pokémon can learn it?"
"Finneon knows it." Lyra replied simply.
Misty eyes sparked with stars in them and she dreamed on seeing her Finneon doing that move.
Pichu and Pikachu sweat dropped, "Pi-Chu." "Pi-ka."
Brock was trying to get his head around the move that Lyra Pokémon just use. 'This girl is no joke at all; her Pokémon are too advance to be a beginner.' He thought sweating a bit, 'And that Pokémon of hers is not of this Region either.' He snapped out of his thought when Onix was hit again. "Onix!" He shouted, "Quick Onix! Rock Throw now."
"Sorry but I don't think so," Lyra said, "Beautifly let's end this with Water Pulse now!" Beautifly release her blue watery sphere and it hit Onix making it faint.
"Onix is unable to battle!" Forrest called out to everyone, "Beautifly is the Winner! Therefore, the winner of this Gym Battle is Lyra!"
"Alright we did it!" Lyra cheered and gave Beautifly a hug. "Thanks a lot, Beautifly. You were awesome!"
"Beaut, beaut, Beautifly!" (Yay, yay I won!) Beautifly response happily of her victory.
When the Gym Battle was over Brock shook hands with Lyra. "Lyra you gave me a great battle." Brock said, "Usually people would use Water and Grass Pokémon to defeat me but you use Flying and Bug type to do it."
"Thanks a lot Brock." Lyra smiled, "I could of use my Gyarados to battle but I wanted to test my Pokémon new moves that they learnt from other Pokémon let the Steel Type move and plus Steel beat Rock so it was great for me. But for Beautifly she learnt a new move that was Water Pulse and I wanted to try it out."
"I see, I realized that your Beautifly is not this Region Pokémon is it."
Lyra shook her head, "No it isn't, it's a Pokémon that is founded in the Hoenn Region but I founded it as a Wurmple when me and Misty were going through the Viridian Forest." She answered Brock.
"Well, you trained your Pokémon's great Lyra." Brock said. "Therefore, I give you the Boulder Badge." The Boulder Badge is a grey badge in a shape of an octagon.
"Thank you so much Brock," Lyra said, claiming the badge. "Alright I got the Boulder Badge!"
"PiPiPichu!" "Pipikachu!" (Our first badge!) Pichu and Pikachu both said.
After having Pidgeotto and Beautifly checked up at the Pokémon Centre, Lyra and Misty decide to leave Pewter City now to head for Lyra's next Gym Battle.
"I was amazed by that battle Ly." Misty said and Lyra looked at her, "I mean I thought that you would've used your Gyarados for the Gym Battle. I would've never thought that you would use Pidgeotto and Beautifly for the Rock Type battle but it worked out okay." Misty smiled at Lyra thinking that she is quite smart for a child that just started out her journey. "Who would've never thought that a Bug Type knew a Water Type move." Lyra smiled back.
Pichu was a sleep in Lyra's hoodie jacket and Pikachu was on her shoulder, she tied pulled her hair to the left side so it doesn't get in Pichu way holding it with a long blue ribbon wrapped around her long hair.
Lyra and Misty were about to leave when they heard a voice. "Hey Lyra and Misty wait up!" It was Brock running towards them.
"Brock what are you doing here?" Lyra asked.
"Well, I'm coming with you in your journey."
"But what about the Gym?" Misty asked.
"Don't worry, my dad is the real Gym Leader of Pewter City. He just got out of the hospital and is fit enough to take control of the Gym again. And my mum and nine brothers and sisters are going to help him. So, it's alright if I come with you guys?" He asked.
Lyra and Misty looked at each other, then with a smile, "Of course. Welcome aboard." They said together to Brock.
So now the journey continued with Lyra, Misty and Brock together.
