Chapter 14 - Night of the Comet

Caroline and Bonnie arrived at the Mystic Grill and occupied one of the tables. They ordered snacks and drinks as they settled in to enjoy themselves.

"So," Bonnie questioned. "What is Alan like? Good? Bad? Is he boyfriend material? Are you enjoying your time with him?"

"And more importantly," Bonnie leaned in and whispered in a teasing manner, "Is he a good kisser?"

"Bonnie!" Caroline responded exasperatedly. But she nonetheless answered the question.

"He is very good," she said. "He is well-behaved, polite, and considerate. And whatever time I have spent with him, I surely have enjoyed it."

She raised her hand, flashing the bracelet toward Bonnie.

"Did Alan give it to you?" Bonnie asked, taking Caroline's hand in her own to examine it.

"Yes," Caroline replied, happy and pleased with herself.

"It looks nice. Quite pretty," Bonnie remarked. "And quite costly, too."

"I do not think money is a problem for our Mr. Alejandro," Caroline interjected. "Have you not seen his mansion? I mean I too have only seen it from outside but it is so gorgeous."

"Every second property in Mystic Falls belongs to the Alejandro family. My mom once told me that the Alejandros are filthy rich."

Bonnie could only nod at this not very surprising information.

"And this is why I am angry at Elena for bailing," Caroline remarked. "I was going to show the bracelet to her, too."

"Or, maybe you were just trying to make her jealous," Bonnie added with a smirking shrug.

"Whatever!" Caroline did not mind in the slightest.

"And yes," she whispered with a false arrogant expression, "Alan is a very good kisser."

Bonnie's eyes widened at this new revelation.

"What else did the two of you do?" She questioned. "Did you two already have sex?"

"Bonnie, no," Caroline almost snapped as if something sinful had been said. "We did nothing else."

Bonnie nodded her head with a tilt, her eyes narrowed with amusement filled in them, clearly saying that she did not believe her.

"Bonnie!" Caroline responded almost frustratedly. "I am speaking the truth."

This time Bonnie looked half-convinced, and Caroline could only sigh in annoyance. Not that it mattered. Sooner or later, things were going to progress beyond mere kissing.

"Then," Bonnie said. "Should I assume that he is going to be your date at the Founder's Day party?"

"He has not asked me yet," Caroline replied, her eyes dreamy. "But I am sure he will ask me."

"Unless he is not aware or not invited to the party," she added.

"He belongs to a founding family," Bonnie responded. "There is no chance that the council will forget to invite him."

"Then he will surely ask me," Caroline said confidently.

What she did not speak outright was that even if he did not ask her, she would ask him. Alan had shown enough gestures. One from her side would hurt no one.

"When will he be here?" Bonnie questioned.

"Soon," Caroline answered as she took a sip of her drink.

The duo chatted for another few minutes when Alan finally made his entry into the Grill.

"Here he is," Caroline remarked, a smile appearing on her face as she got up to greet him.

"Alan!" she called.

Alan approached them with a quiet confidence.

"Caroline," he greeted, then turned toward the Bennett witch. "Bonnie."

Bonnie waved her hand as she too stood up.

"I think I should take my leave, too," she said. "See you in the evening for the comet gathering."

Caroline flashed a smile before Bonnie walked away. Caroline retook her seat while Alan sat in Bonnie's seat.

"How is your friend?" Alan asked.

"Vicki? Absolutely fine," she replied. "She should be discharged from the hospital shortly."

"So," she asked. "Will you be coming to see the comet today?"

"Depends on whether you are coming or not," Alan replied with a shrug.

Caroline giggled in response.

"Then you will have to come," she said. "I will be coming. And I will bring candles for you, too."

"Thanks!" he answered. "And there is something else I would want to ask you."

"What?" she questioned.

"Founder's Day Party," he replied. "Would you like to be my date?"

"I would love to," she answered immediately. Caroline was pleased at being asked. Immensely so.

"But you would need to be careful of my mom," she whispered almost exaggeratedly. "She is the town sheriff. She carries a gun loaded with bullets."

Alan raised his hands in mock surrender.

"I will absolutely be very careful," he replied.

They continued to chat and have fun for some time, after which Alan dropped Caroline back at her house. He again offered to pick her up to go see the comet, but Caroline was insistent that she would come herself. She did not wish to worry Alan about constantly picking and dropping her off.

After dropping Caroline off, Alan returned to his own mansion. There were still a few hours left before the sighting of the comet, and thus Alan pulled out a couple of grimoires from his basement, along with Emily Bennett's grimoire, he started to go through them and began practicing magic.

In the evening, after darkness fell, the crowd had gathered at the square to see the comet. It was a fun event, a typical Mystic Falls evening in its party and enjoyment mood.

Drinks were being served and everyone was holding a candle. Alan, too, was having a fun time with Caroline. The group also included Bonnie, Elena, and Stefan. And as the canon was progressing further, Stefan and Elena had gotten noticeably close. Yet, they had still not finalized their relationship.

As far as Alan was able to remember the canon, today was the night when they would be finalizing their relationship and would also have their first kiss.

As the night deepened, the comet appeared and the main event concluded. They all had gathered inside the Grill when a commotion broke out in the gathering.

Jeremy and Matt began searching for Vicki. Undoubtedly, it was Damon who had attacked her once again.

Alan hardly cared for Vicki, as he did not really like her as a character, so he continued his drinking. Moments later, Stefan too disappeared to rescue Vicki from the clutches of his brother.

Vicki was finally discovered, and slowly the gathering started to come to an end. Elena had departed earlier, probably without informing Stefan, who came looking for her. Bonnie helped him by giving him her number. It was a big question how, even after being this close in a mere two days, they still had not exchanged numbers.

And the expression which appeared on Bonnie's face when she touched Stefan was very remarkable. She had felt 'Death' with that touch. Very soon, Bonnie and Caroline left too, and Alan was also about to depart from the Grill when he spotted a familiar figure sitting at the bar.
