Jenna Sommers was a troubled woman. At a very young age, she had gained guardianship of two teenagers, and she was failing badly in her responsibilities.
Her nephew, Jeremy, was going through a bad patch. He was doing poorly in his studies, had no sense of his future or responsibilities, and showed no signs of improvement. And worse of all, he had become a drug addict.
The case with her niece was at least slightly better and more hopeful. Though unable to cope with the loss of her parents, Elena had not taken the path of drugs or any other addiction. She too was not doing very brightly in her studies, but at least she was trying to move on and do better in her life.
She did not blame them entirely. They had suffered a very great loss. They had lost their parents in a car accident and it had left them devastated. But even if she understood this, things could continue like this. She could not stay idle and see them, especially Jeremy destroying their lives.
And today, she had been invited by Mr. Tanner, a teacher at Mystic Falls High School. And Mr. Tanner had questioned her competence and sense of responsibilities and he had thoroughly insulted her.
And when she had tried to talk to Jeremy about it, she had been thoroughly ignored and sidelined.
"A bourbon for me," a deep male voice snapped Jenna from her thoughts. "And a refill for the lady."
"It seems that she is trying to drown in her sorrows," the voice concluded. "The alcohol must not fall short."
Jenna turned her head to the right to find a man in his early twenties, dressed in a black leather jacket, sitting on the stool next to her. He was handsome, breathtakingly so, and his blue eyes were incredibly striking.
Jenna did not react immediately. She kept staring at the man with her head tilted. Her glass was refilled, and bourbon was served to him.
"True," she finally responded. "I am drinking to drown my sorrows. But for what reason are you drinking?"
"There are a lot of reasons I could drink," Alan replied. "But right now, I am drinking to give company to a beautiful, charming, but lonely lady."
"How does that sound for a reason?" he questioned with a small smirk.
"Useless," Jenna reacted, with barely any change in her expression. "But it works, I guess."
She picked up her glass and downed it in one go.
"Jenna Sommers," she introduced herself, turning back toward him.
"Alan Alejandro," Alan replied.
"Alan? The new arrival?" she questioned. "Elena told me about you."
"She did?" Alan smiled. "I guess we could already be called acquaintances then."
"Maybe," she nodded, her eyes narrowed. "But she also told me that you are into Caroline Forbes. And now you are trying to hit on me?"
There was no change in expression on Alan's face.
"Elena told you the truth," he said. "But is it written somewhere or is there an encoded law that I cannot praise or approach another beautiful lady?"
"A lot of people would call this cheating," Jenna remarked.
"Maybe," Alan shrugged. "But a lot of people would also call it my charm."
"The charm of Alan Alejandro," he added, with a confident smirk.
A smile appeared on Jenna's face as she looked at him with amusement.
"If word gets out that I have been flirting with the boyfriend of my niece's friend, my reputation will be ruined," she quipped.
"I guess you are suggesting then to keep all this a secret," Alan responded. "I do not see a problem with that. I could keep it a secret."
Jenna burst out laughing.
"You are indeed something," she said. "And extremely shameless."
"I do not mind being shameless," Alan responded calmly.
Jenna shook her head as she stood up from her stool.
"I do not want to see you again," she said in amusement.
"But you will," Alan added without missing a beat.
"Maybe," she nodded.
"You know what," she continued. "If you had not been Caroline's boyfriend, I would have fucked you tonight."
"It would have been my pleasure," Alan said. "But not today but I hope sometime in future."
Jenna did not say anything further as she walked away from the Grill, leaving him alone with his drink as his eyes remained fixated on her departing back.
Alan finally took a sip from his glass as he mumbled to himself, "Time to do some real work."
Alan left the Mystic Grill and stepped into his car. He ignited the engine, pressed the pedal, and the car roared to life. The vehicle passed through the empty streets of Mystic Falls.
His destination? The older part of the city, which was mostly abandoned.
Weaving along the road, Alan arrived in front of one of the abandoned and very iconic buildings of Mystic Falls. The building which was one of the most significant things for the first season.
The Old Fell's Church. The very same church underneath which twenty seven vampires had been sealed, or twenty six in reality, since Katherine was not actually inside the tomb.
It took Alan a couple of minutes to find the entrance to the tomb. The stone door with the carved star on it.
"There you are," Alan whispered as he placed his hand on the carving of the rock and caressed it.
He moved a couple of steps backward and set his target on the sealed entrance. Unlike Bonnie and her grandmother, who had been weak and had found it hard to control the entrance, Alan had no such problem. Magically, he was immensely powerful.
He closed his eyes and began chanting the spell, the same spell he had learned from Emily Bennett's grimoire. Just like what Bonnie and her grandmother did the first time, Alan was only unsealing the door so that only a human could come and go through it, while a vampire could only enter.
The chanting continued for a couple of minutes before there was a grinding and rustling sound. The stone sealing the entrance was pushed back, and the path inside the tomb was revealed. A smile appeared on Alan's face as he began walking confidently toward the tomb.
