They finally reached the main exit corridor.
But something felt wrong.
One of Alexander's guards suddenly slowed down.
Emily noticed first.
"Is something wrong?"
The guard did not answer.
Instead he turned slowly.
And raised his gun.
Directly at Alexander.
Everyone froze.
The hallway became deadly quiet.
Alexander stared at the weapon calmly.
"Explain yourself."
The guard's hands were shaking slightly.
"I'm sorry, sir."
Emily felt her stomach drop.
"You were working with them?"
The guard looked at her.
His eyes were filled with regret.
"I didn't have a choice."
Alexander's voice remained calm.
"Everyone has a choice."
The guard hesitated.
For a brief moment it looked like he might lower the gun.
Then a voice suddenly came through his earpiece.
"Do it."
The guard closed his eyes.
And pulled the trigger.
