Ash and his group arrived in Saffron City and rested for the night at the Pokémon Center.
Early the next morning, Ash contacted Professor Oak and had the Gastly trio sent over. With three ghosts working together—and their ridiculous comedy routines—dealing with Sabrina should be easy.
Professor Oak was overjoyed when he heard that Ash had captured Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar. He was so happy he could hardly stop smiling. He even insisted on rewarding Ash with 30,000 Poké Dollars, telling him to keep working hard—there would be plenty more rewards from the Pokémon League.
Not far from the Saffron Gym, a man wearing a hat suddenly stopped Ash and his friends.
"You're planning to challenge the Saffron Gym, aren't you?"
"I suggest you don't challenge Sabrina unless you're strong enough," the man said in a low voice.
"So how strong do you have to be to defeat Sabrina?" Ash asked.
From what he knew, Sabrina could lend her psychic power to Abra, forcing it to evolve into Kadabra and dramatically increasing its strength.
Depending on the challenger's power, she would raise Kadabra's level accordingly—but it shouldn't exceed the strength of his Thousand-Year Gastly.
"Well…" The man hesitated before saying seriously, "Judging from the way you look, you're trainers who just started traveling. Don't think that getting a few Gym Badges through luck means you can beat Sabrina."
"You'd better challenge another Gym. You won't win here."
Misty looked at the man suspiciously. The situation felt strangely familiar.
"Wait… are you Sabrina's father?"
The man froze.
How did this girl figure out who he was?
Seeing his reaction, Misty lifted her chin proudly and glanced at Ash.
She had guessed it based on her earlier experience with Brock's father, who had acted in a similar way when guiding challengers.
"So you figured it out," the man admitted, adjusting his hat. "But I still think you can't defeat Sabrina."
He began explaining Sabrina's story, his tone full of doubt about Ash's group.
It wasn't that Ash was too weak—it was that Sabrina was simply too strong. Her psychic powers were terrifying.
Pikachu, resting on Ash's shoulder, heard the man's dismissive tone. With a small crackle, Pikachu released a burst of electricity from its cheek pouches.
The sudden surge of power startled the man.
That Pikachu… is pretty strong.
The trainer didn't look very experienced, yet he had raised such a powerful Pikachu. Still…
"It's still not enough," the man said. "Sabrina's psychic power is far stronger than that."
He was about to continue lecturing them—
But Ash and the others simply walked past him and headed toward the Saffron Gym.
With the Ghost-type trio backing him up, Ash wasn't worried at all. Just their comedy antics alone could probably deal with Sabrina.
The man sighed helplessly.
"Kids these days never listen…"
If things went wrong like with the previous challengers, he might have to step in again.
"Hey! Wait!" he called after them.
But Ash and the others had already entered the Gym.
Inside the Saffron Gym, the place was eerily empty.
Ash and the others wandered through the halls looking for Sabrina.
"Are you here to challenge the Gym?"
A man wearing a lab coat and face mask stopped them.
Ash nodded.
"If you want to challenge here… you must first bend this spoon using psychic power."
The masked man took out a spoon and demonstrated.
He stared intensely at it.
Veins bulged on his forehead. His face turned bright red.
Brock looked worried.
"Are you okay?"
"Don't push yourself too hard… what if it snaps and hits someone?"
After a full minute or two, the spoon finally bent slightly.
The masked man exhaled and proudly showed the result.
"If you can't do it, then you—"
His eyes suddenly widened.
Ash had taken the spoon from him.
Snap.
Ash casually broke it in half with his hands and returned the two pieces.
"Simple and effective."
The masked man fell silent.
Still stunned, he led them toward the battlefield. He had wanted to warn them again, but remembered the last time he tried—Sabrina had punished him with her psychic powers.
So he kept quiet.
"This doesn't look like a battlefield," Misty whispered nervously. "It looks more like a temple…"
She shrank back slightly, clearly uncomfortable in the place.
"Are you here to challenge the Gym?"
A voice suddenly spoke.
More precisely—it came from the doll in Sabrina's hands.
The room was covered in dim shadows, and only the doll was clearly visible. The atmosphere felt straight out of a horror movie.
"If you lose," the doll continued, "you'll have to stay here and play with me."
Lights illuminated the battlefield.
They finally saw Sabrina sitting on a chair above the arena, holding the doll.
She had dark green hair, delicate features, and empty, emotionless eyes.
Her entire presence radiated an unsettling, almost yandere-like aura.
"If you agree," Sabrina said calmly, "you can't go back on your word."
The doll's Poké Ball suddenly opened by itself, releasing a Pokémon.
Abra.
Pokémon: Abra — Level 15
Just as expected—Abra hadn't evolved yet.
Ash noticed something amusing: Abra's eyes were closed… just like Brock's.
To finish the battle quickly, Ash sent out Thousand-Year Gastly.
"A Ghost-type Pokémon… the result will still be the same," Sabrina said coldly.
Her psychic power suddenly surged.
She infused her power into Abra—
In an instant, Abra evolved into Kadabra.
Its level skyrocketed.
Level 15 → Level 45
A thirty-level jump.
Kadabra was merely the medium. In reality, Sabrina herself was controlling the battle.
Why doesn't the system give me abilities like this… Ash thought.
This is basically a "Super Newcomer" account logging in to play for you.
"Did it evolve during battle on purpose?" Misty asked nervously as Kadabra's aura surged.
"The man outside said Sabrina's psychic power was strong," Brock said. "So this is what he meant—she can actually boost her Pokémon's power."
"Gastly—Shadow Ball!"
Gastly launched a dark sphere toward Kadabra.
Kadabra didn't dodge.
The spoon in its hand glowed faintly as it used Psychic to slow the Shadow Ball. The attack exploded half a meter away.
Kadabra then used Teleport to escape most of the damage—but it was still injured.
You still escaped that?
Ash clicked his tongue.
That psychic power was seriously broken.
Hidden in the shadows, Sabrina's father—who had prepared to intervene—stood frozen.
This kid actually has a Pokémon strong enough to gain the upper hand against Sabrina…
"Shadow Ball!" Ash commanded again.
Originally, that first attack should have finished the battle. But Gastly had underestimated its opponent—and Sabrina's psychic power was absurd.
"Let's see if you can survive this one."
Gastly grinned and gathered a much larger Shadow Ball.
At that moment, Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar sensed something and automatically popped out of their Poké Balls.
They floated nearby like a cheerleading squad, hyping up the atmosphere.
Kadabra tried to Teleport again.
But Gastly had already locked onto its position.
The Shadow Ball struck directly.
Before Kadabra could react, the attack exploded with far greater power than before.
Kadabra was instantly knocked out.
"Woohoo~!"
The Gastly trio rushed onto the battlefield and immediately began performing their ridiculous comedy routine, celebrating Gastly's victory.
This was exactly the scene Ash wanted.
Because he had already received a system mission:
After defeating Sabrina, he had to help her regain her humanity.
And completing that task would depend on the newly recruited Ghost Comedy Troupe—the Gastly trio.
