"Gastly~!"
"Haunter~!"
"Gengar~!"
Seeing Sabrina's expressionless, yandere-like face, the Gastly trio exchanged glances. They nodded in perfect sync and floated right in front of Sabrina, pulling exaggerated ghost faces while performing the new comedy routines they had learned from Professor Oak's lab.
Whether Sabrina simply had a low laughter threshold—or the trio had truly improved their comedy skills—no one knew.
Sabrina, the girl who had always appeared cold and distant, suddenly laughed.
At first it was soft, barely noticeable.
But as the Gastly trio kept performing tirelessly, her laughter grew louder and louder until she was laughing uncontrollably, clutching her stomach as if all her pent-up emotions were finally bursting out at once.
At that moment, Kadabra's Poké Ball slipped from the doll's hand and rolled onto the floor.
The floating doll vanished instantly.
"Sabrina has been obsessed with psychic powers since childhood," her father said as he removed his hat, tears filling his eyes while watching his daughter's bright smile.
"This is the first time I've ever seen her laugh so happily."
He explained the situation to Ash and the others.
Sabrina had possessed extraordinary psychic powers since she was young. But because she devoted her entire mind and life to those powers, her personality gradually became cold, isolated, and strange.
The once gloomy and eerie battlefield now felt completely different.
With Sabrina's clear laughter echoing through the hall, the entire atmosphere suddenly became warm and lively.
Even Kadabra, who had regained some strength, sensed Sabrina's emotions through telepathy and started laughing along with her.
"Is it really that funny?" Ash muttered.
Professor Oak had once mentioned that the Gastly trio had great comedic talent. Even skits that weren't funny on TV somehow became hilarious when performed by the three of them.
So why don't I feel like laughing that much? Ash wondered.
Is my sense of humor just too high?
"Ash, trainer of Gastly," Sabrina said after some time, "this Marsh Badge is yours. Your strength has earned my respect."
Ash recalled his four Ghost Pokémon.
Sabrina handed him the Marsh Badge along with several tens of thousands of Poké Dollars.
[ Mission completed: Defeat Sabrina and restore her humanity.]
Mission Rewards:
Beginner Psychic Power
5 Beginner Rare Candies
'Central Heater' Reputation +1…
Ash could barely contain his excitement.
Sabrina also restored the challengers she had turned into dolls—and even returned her mother to normal.
At last, the family of three was reunited.
Sabrina's father was extremely grateful to Ash and gave him an item as thanks.
Item: Twisted Spoon
(Boosts the power of Psychic-type moves by 20% when held.)
"This isn't an ordinary item," the man explained. "Not only can Psychic-type Pokémon use it—trainers can use it too… as long as they have psychic powers."
Ash examined the Twisted Spoon in his hand.
Perfect timing.
None of his Pokémon were Psychic-type anyway, so he might as well equip it himself.
Maybe someday he could even battle personally.
"Thank you, Ash," Sabrina said, extending her pale hand. A gentle smile appeared on her face—the earlier cold, yandere aura completely gone.
"It's nothing," Ash replied with a smile as he shook her hand.
Sabrina's family warmly thanked Ash and his friends again, clearly full of gratitude.
They even invited them to stay longer.
But Ash politely declined. It was better not to interrupt their long-awaited reunion.
Instead, he decided to treat Misty and Brock using the Poké Dollars he had just earned.
"Since it's still early," Brock suggested, "why don't we restock supplies and have a picnic in the wild?"
They had almost run out of supplies after traveling for so many days. After arriving in Saffron City late last night and immediately challenging the Gym this morning, they finally had some free time.
Pikachu became excited.
That meant it could hunt for ketchup again.
Misty bought a cheap ice cream cone and followed behind Ash while carrying Pikachu.
Ash entered a bustling shop, scanning the shelves for supplies.
This trip was mainly to stock up on Pokéblocks and daily necessities, while also making sure to buy plenty of Super Potions, which were essential for traveling.
After finishing their shopping, Ash and his friends set out toward Celadon City.
After traveling for a while, noon arrived.
Brock began preparing lunch.
Misty played with Horsea, while Pikachu focused entirely on eating snacks covered in ketchup.
Ash began thinking about his newly acquired Beginner Psychic Power.
How strong is it exactly?
Could he bend a normal spoon?
He should at least be stronger than that masked guy from the Gym.
For now, his psychic ability allowed him to sense nearby surroundings and barely move small objects, but he couldn't do things like Sabrina—such as telepathically controlling people or communicating directly with Pokémon.
"Let's test it using Pikachu's snack first."
Ash looked at Pikachu, who had closed its eyes and opened its mouth to take a bite of its ketchup-covered pastry.
Ash focused his mind.
His psychic power locked onto the snack in Pikachu's hand.
"Pika?"
Pikachu bit down—
But only caught air.
The snack in its paw seemed to be pulled by a mysterious force, slowly drifting away from its mouth.
Pikachu froze in shock.
Its eyes darted around, and sparks flickered from its cheek pouches as it tried to find the culprit.
Ash immediately withdrew his psychic power.
Better not mess with Pikachu too much.
If Pikachu unleashed a full-area Thunderbolt, he definitely wouldn't survive it.
Ash shifted his gaze to a tree nearby.
A gentle breeze blew past, and a leaf drifted down from a branch.
Just before it touched the ground—
It suddenly split cleanly into two pieces.
"Not bad," Ash murmured.
The Beginner Psychic Power was decent. At least he could control small objects.
Now that psychic power had arrived…
When will Aura appear?
As the Aura Guardian, Ash shouldn't be without Aura.
Just like how Jerusalem can't be missing from the 3D zone.
Aura wasn't limited to Pokémon—humans possessed it as well.
But it was extremely rare.
Besides Ash, the only other person known to demonstrate Aura was Sir Aaron.
Aura was a mysterious power.
From what Ash remembered, it could:
Move objects
Defend against attacks
Launch attacks
See through objects
Detect emotions and thoughts
In many ways, psychic power and Aura were quite similar.
Right now his psychic ability was only at the beginner level.
But if it eventually advanced to intermediate or advanced levels…
Who knew what incredible abilities it might unlock?
