"Those damn Diglett! They're pests! Because of them, our dam construction work can't proceed!"
After Ash hitched a ride with Gary to the quest issuer's location, the foreman who issued the request just kept complaining non-stop. And after listening to this guy's rambling, Ash and Gary understood: they planned to build a dam here, but because of the Diglett, the construction materials couldn't be delivered.
"Hah, whose fault is it that you guys had nothing better to do than blow up the mountain for fun? You're lucky they didn't just attack you directly. Also, who wants coffee?" Ash, holding his freshly brewed coffee, looked entirely carefree as he sat at the dining table Meowth had set up. Eating snacks and drinking coffee, he couldn't be more relaxed. Misty, Suzie, Gary, and even Gary's girlfriends were all sitting together, resting. The only one not resting was probably Brock.
"Give me a refill, thanks. But why would Diglett want to stop the dam's construction?" Gary asked as he had Ash refill his coffee, still somewhat puzzled by Diglett's behavior. Ash shrugged and said, "Who knows? But generally speaking, if a group of Pokémon takes collective action, it's likely that humans have encroached on their territory in some way."
While petting Vulpix, Suzie asked curiously, "Encroached on them?"
"Yeah, just like how Muk and the Grimer attacked because they thought those Team Rocket guys entering the sewers were humans coming to steal their food. At times like this, my Meowth is the real MVP! With him around, many issues can be resolved through communication!"
Meowth, eating a grilled fish, nodded and said, "Actually, I've already resolved many incidents that popped up just through communication alone. So, twerp, you better respect me properly, you hear?"
Seeing Meowth act so unceremoniously toward him, Gary said speechlessly, "Honestly, I'm not a twerp. And why am I the only one who has to respect you? What about that guy Ash?"
"Hah, goes without saying, meow! Because we're partners in crime!" x2
"Pika Pika!"
Seeing the unscrupulous smiles on Ash, Pikachu, and Meowth's faces, Gary really wanted to hit someone.
"You over there! Listen to me carefully! This is an operation against the Diglett! Don't you guys want the free three-day, four-night hot spring tickets? They're totally free!!"
Looking at the hot spring tickets in the foreman's hand, Ash and Gary snorted with laughter. Gary then patted Ash's shoulder and said to the foreman, "Uncle, we really don't care about that. To tell you the truth, those free tickets you have are only available because of my bro here. Are they promotional gifts from the Continental Hotel recently?"
The foreman looked at Gary strangely and asked in surprise, "How did you know? Our free tickets were given by the newly opened Hot Spring Manor nearby, owned by the Continental Hotel, as thanks for the construction team's help. It pains us to even use these free tickets..."
"Oh, I figured as much. Actually, he's the one who owns that Hot Spring."
"..." The foreman looked at Ash in disbelief. Meanwhile, Meowth made a call. The person on the other end was startled when he saw Meowth.
"Lord Meowth! What are your orders?"
"Have you guys been giving out free hot spring tickets to the construction team recently, meow?"
"Yes! That engineering team has been working very diligently, so we gave them some free hot spring tickets. Is there a problem?"
"No. But it just so happens we're heading over there, so get ready to welcome us."
"The Boss is coming?!"
Meowth turned the device toward Ash, and the manager jumped in shock upon seeing him.
"Boss?!"
"Yeah, make preparations. We'll be there tonight." Ash turned back, "Gary, you coming?"
Seeing Ash invite him, Gary was momentarily stunned, but then quickly said, "Of course I'm going! Might as well live it up!"
"Alright, prepare the highest tier of VIP treatment. Also..." Ash sneaked a glance at Brock, who was still asking for Gary's girlfriends' phone numbers, and said quietly, "Have the Muscle Bros and the Fitness Paradise get ready. Their lovely Brock is coming."
"Understood!"
Ash, Gary, Meowth, and Pikachu silently glanced at Brock, who had no idea of his impending doom, and revealed dark smiles. Misty and Suzie could only cover their mouths to hold back their laughter. Although they felt sorry for Brock, it was better than letting him cause trouble for others.
Right while they were talking, the Diglett appeared, and the moment they showed up, they headed straight for the trucks.
"Now is not the time to be talking about this! Hurry up and stop them!"
Looking at the foreman, Ash shrugged, then continued eating his snack and drinking his coffee, casually feeding a piece of candy to a certain stupid duck who found the coffee too bitter.
"Ash, aren't you going to do something?"
"Forget it. We'll ask Diglett what's going on later. I don't want to do a thankless job."
"Fair enough, I'll take a little break too. By the way, do you still have any snacks left?"
"Yeah, Suzie made it, it tastes really good."
Subsequently, Ash and his group enjoyed a farce. The summoned trainers threw their Poké Balls, but it was completely useless because the Pokémon refused to come out. The Poké Balls were even sent right back by Diglett.
Watching this farcical situation, Suzie smiled and shook her head, then went over with Meowth to chat with the Diglett.
