Bam!
With Machamp flawlessly catching the four trapeze artists, another performance concluded to thunderous applause. The host walked onto the stage, clapping. "Thank you! A huge round of applause for Machamp and our four aerialists for that breathtaking flying trapeze act! Next up, we'd like to invite a very special musical group to the stage. Please welcome... the Whismur Choir!"
"The Whismur Choir?!"
This sudden surprise caught countless audience members off guard. As the grand curtain opened, a masked person sat at a piano with accompanying musicians beside him. But the real center of attention wasn't them—it was the Whismurs standing on the stage.
"Begin."
"Whis~murrrmurrr~whis~murrr..."
As the Whismurs began to sing Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125, the fourth movement—better known as the legendary Ode to Joy—the entire venue experienced true awe. These Whismurs were actually using Bel Canto techniques!
Misty and Brock's jaws dropped in sheer astonishment as they listened to this utterly unique concert. Suzie and Lara closed their eyes, slowly taking in the music.
The power of music is immense. When the Whismurs finished their Ode to Joy, the applause was deafening. But it wasn't over yet. After the Whismurs bowed and exited, a massive DJ booth slowly rose from the stage. Poochyena and Houndoom stood guard on the flanks, while Meowth and Pikachu, dressed in DJ gear, were mixing tracks. Behind them stood a gang of Loudred.
"Meow, let's drop the beat!"
As Meowth and Pikachu spun the decks, the Loudred began to beatbox!
In short, this heart-shaking performance finally concluded after Ash's Exploud delivered a booming tenor solo. And right after that came the legendary main event.
"Next up is the legendary, super-heavyweight main event! Let's welcome our special guest, Mr. Gary Oak! He will be performing... the Human Cannonball!!"
"Pfft!"
Hearing the host's announcement, Misty and the girls, who knew a bit of the context, nearly spat out their drinks. Gary, performing as a guest? You've got to be kidding!
Just as they suspected, Gary appeared before the crowd bound up like a caterpillar, with his mouth sealed shut by duct tape.
"Relax, Gary. I specifically hired someone from an acrobat family. Sure, I just met her, but..."
"Mmph! Mmmphhhh!!" Hearing Ash's reassurance, Gary instantly began thrashing around frantically. But Ash gave him no chance. He waved to Chansey beside him, who wore a wicked grin as she ripped the tape off Gary's mouth and unceremoniously tossed him into the massive human cannon.
At that moment, Charizard walked over. Ash nodded to him. Charizard, sharing an unparalleled telepathic synergy with Ash, nodded back with a devious smirk and used the flame on his tail to light the fuse.
"Five! Four!"
BOOM!
"Your math teacher is crying!!"
Screaming and roasting Ash's countdown skills, Gary was launched directly into the air. High above, Darla, who was already prepared, swung from a rope, leaped off, and caught Gary. After spinning in the air, she tossed him down toward Ash. Ash perfectly triggered his bond with Chansey in a split second, caught Gary with one hand, and hurled him back up into the sky. Pidgeot flashed past at lightning speed to catch Gary. Meanwhile, as Darla fell, she was caught by Absol and used its momentum to land gracefully in Ash's arms.
Right after, Gary was safely delivered back to Ash's side by Pidgeot. Ash quickly grabbed Gary's shoulders to keep him from collapsing; a smart move, because Gary's legs had completely turned to jelly, though nobody else noticed.
"Don't do something that thrilling next time..."
"Gardevoir was ready to help. What were you afraid of?"
"But it was seriously way too thrilling!"
"Alright, alright, your guts are just small."
"Bastard! Nobody has freakish thoughts like you do, okay?!"
Amidst their banter, applause erupted. The thrilling performance had given the audience a massive rush, and they cheered for Ash and the team from the bottom of their hearts. After helping Darla stand properly, Ash steadied Gary a bit. This performance had finally concluded safely.
"Whew... scared me half to death. Can't you use something a bit safer?"
"No, it's only fun this way!"
Backstage, Gary sipped on a drink, feeling like a survivor of a disaster, and grumbled at Ash. Ash paid no mind to Gary's complaints. In truth, Ash had implemented tons of safety measures; it was absolutely safe.
"Pika pi!" (You need more training.) Pikachu patted Gary's shoulder, indicating he needed to toughen up.
Meowth dealt a further blow, "Meow, you're scared of stuff the Boss is completely used to. It's actually kind of hilarious, meow!"
"I'm not a freak like Ash! And aside from acrobatic stars, I don't believe anyone else would dare play with that human cannon!"
"Ash! I want to try that human cannonball thing later!"
Lara barged backstage, her eyes sparkling as she pointed at the cannon. Ash laughed, "No problem! Someone just said nobody would want to play with the human cannonball."
Watching the eager Lara, Gary twitched his mouth helplessly and muttered, "Two freaks..."
"Chansey?" (What did you say?)
"Grrr..." (Did I just hear someone talking bad about Ash?)
"Woof!" "Woof!" (Burn his butt!)
Because of one offhand comment, Gary found himself surrounded by Chansey, Absol, Poochyena, and Houndoom.
