"So, do you three have anything you want to say for yourselves?"
A short time had passed since the Exeggutor stampede was resolved. Right now, Ash and his group were interrogating a tied-up Team Rocket about the situation. The three of them had been swept up and scorched by the fire tornado as well.
"This really wasn't our fault this time..." James gulped nervously, looking at Ash's face, which clearly read 'If you dare say it was you, you're dead'. He quickly explained, "Actually, the real cause of this Exeggutor stampede was a magician!"
"Huh? A magician?"
Ash was taken aback by James's words. Team Rocket's Meowth chimed in, "That's right, it was definitely because of a magician. Honestly, it's the first time I've ever seen someone so utterly shameless, meow."
Hearing Meowth say this, Ash took a skewer of grilled fish from a staff member and held it out to Meowth. "Give me the details. Explain it clearly, and this is yours."
"Slurp, alright, you'll understand once you hear this..."
Tempted by the grilled fish, Meowth spilled everything. It turned out the Exeggutor stampede was caused by Melvin, the shameless magician Ash had run into earlier. Because he didn't have an assistant, Melvin actually had his Exeggcute hypnotize a random passerby. When he discovered that the passerby's Pokemon was a Bug-type, Melvin immediately forced him to help capture a herd of Exeggutor near the city!
Team Rocket had witnessed all of this. Once the last Exeggutor was captured, they tied Melvin up, planning to steal the Exeggutor. Who could have guessed that Melvin's Exeggcute would evolve right at that moment! Once it could also use Hypnosis, it accidentally caused all the Exeggutor to hypnotize each other, ultimately resulting in the massive stampede.
"And that's the whole story, meow. Now, about our grilled fish..."
"Here, be careful, it's hot."
Having gotten the intel he wanted, Ash handed the grilled fish over to Meowth, who smiled and said, "Thanks! You're so considerate!" and began devouring the fish.
"Melvin, huh. It's truly a marvel that one person can be disgusting to this degree. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Melvin, who's currently trying to sneak away?" Ash turned his gaze toward Melvin, who was trying to flee with his Exeggutor in the distance.
"Crap!"
Realizing he was exposed, Melvin immediately made a run for it. But Gary, standing next to Ash, called out to his Arcanine, "Bring him back here!"
"Woof!"
At Gary's command, Arcanine dashed toward Melvin and the Exeggutor with blinding speed. Seeing this, Melvin frantically ordered, "Exeggutor, use Hypnosis!"
"Flamethrower!"
Gary didn't even wait for Melvin to finish his command and instantly ordered a Flamethrower. Arcanine blasted the Exeggutor with a stream of fire.
To be honest, Melvin's Exeggutor was pathetic. Having just evolved from a beginner-level Exeggcute, it was practically useless in combat. Hit by Gary's elite-level Arcanine's Flamethrower, it was instantly scorched and collapsed on the ground. After taking out the Exeggutor, Arcanine rushed up to Melvin, grabbed him by the collar with its mouth, and dragged him back to Ash's group.
"Good job, Arcanine. Now let me see what this morally bankrupt piece of trash actually looks like. Eh? He looks pretty goofy, doesn't he?"
When Gary got a good look at Melvin's face, he found it hard to connect him with the incredibly disgusting, morally bankrupt guy Ash and the others had just described. Ash tossed the wooden skewer—stripped clean of fish by Team Rocket's Meowth—into a trash can and kicked Melvin, who was still dangling from Arcanine's mouth. "Heh. Guys like this look goofy, but their heads are full of wicked schemes. They pretend to be honest and naive, but they're rotten to the core."
"You guys are going too far!"
Being insulted by Ash made Melvin angry. Ignoring the fact that he was dangling from a dog's mouth, he roared, "My biggest dream is to perform on Broadway! What's wrong with putting in hard work for my dream?!"
"Pfft! Hahahaha! That's hilarious! A guy like you actually has the nerve to say you put in hard work?!"
Hearing Melvin's words, Ash couldn't hold it back anymore. Laughing maniacally, he grabbed Melvin by the hair, yanking it as he shouted, "If using Hypnosis to mind-control others into catching Pokemon for you counts as 'hard work,' then what the hell do you call all the blood, sweat, and tears I've poured in over the years?! Huh?!"
Smash!
Ash threw a punch squarely into Melvin's face. Gary turned his head away. He could understand why Ash was reacting this way; everything Ash had achieved was earned through his own grueling effort. Even though Gary hadn't personally experienced Ash's specific hardships, he knew how hard Ash worked.
"So tell me! What kind of face does a bastard like you have to talk about 'hard work'!"
Bam! Bam! Bam!
Watching Ash ruthlessly beat Melvin punch by punch, Misty felt a bit squeamish, but her absolute trust in Ash stopped her from intervening. She was just a bit worried if Ash kept going... Meowth saw the concern in Misty's eyes, chuckled, and walked over to whisper, "Don't worry, the Boss will be fine. It's just that this guy is so incredibly repulsive he pushed the Boss over the edge. The Boss rarely gets this angry."
"That's right, don't worry. Ash is a doctor; he knows exactly how hard to hit without doing permanent damage," Lara added, patting Misty's shoulder. Then, she pointed around them. "Look around."
"Around us?"
Misty looked and realized that a whole crowd of people and Pokemon were rubbing their fists and cracking their knuckles as they closed in. They clearly intended to beat a certain someone to a pulp.
