The wall of shadows stood between them.
Alive.
Breathing.
Growing darker with every second.
On one side—
Arjun.
His crimson eyes burning with rage.
His shadow clawing at the barrier.
On the other—
Aanya.
Breathing hard.
Her heart pounding so loudly it almost drowned out the whispers around her.
And behind her—
Her own shadow rose slowly.
Tall.
Silent.
Watching.
"Aanya…" it whispered.
She froze.
That voice…
It sounded familiar.
Soft.
Almost like her own.
"Who are you?" she whispered.
The shadow tilted its head.
"I am what remains of you."
A chill ran down her spine.
Before she could respond—
Arjun's voice tore through the darkness.
"AANYA!"
She turned instantly.
On the other side of the wall, he was still trying to reach her.
Still fighting.
Still refusing to let go.
His voice dropped.
Low.
Desperate.
"Don't listen to it."
Aanya's eyes filled with tears.
"Arjun…"
The shadow behind her moved closer.
"He will destroy you," it said quietly.
She shook her head.
"No…"
But then—
Memories flashed again.
More missing pieces.
Her mother's smile.
Her childhood room.
Her first rain.
All fading.
Like smoke.
Aanya gasped.
Her hand flew to her head.
"It hurts…" she whispered.
The shadow's voice softened.
"The bond is consuming you."
On the other side—
Arjun slammed his hand against the barrier.
Cracks spread across it.
"AANYA, LOOK AT ME!"
She did.
And for a moment—
Everything else faded.
His face.
His voice.
The way he still looked at her as if losing her was worse than death.
"Come back to me," he said.
Her heart ached.
The shadow behind her whispered again.
"If you go to him…"
A pause.
"You lose yourself forever."
Aanya closed her eyes.
Her breathing uneven.
What was she supposed to choose?
Herself?
Or the darkness that refused to let her go?
Arjun's voice softened.
Low.
Raw.
"I know I've changed."
A pause.
"I know I've hurt you."
Another pause.
"But even in this darkness…"
His eyes locked with hers.
"I still love you."
The words hit harder than anything else.
Aanya's tears finally fell.
Because despite everything—
She still loved him too.
The wall cracked louder.
The shadows around Arjun surged.
Violent.
Possessive.
"Choose me," he said.
The words were soft.
But dangerous.
The shadow behind Aanya stepped closer.
Its voice colder now.
"If you choose him…"
A pause.
"You choose darkness."
Aanya slowly turned around.
Facing her own shadow.
"And if I choose myself?" she whispered.
Silence.
Then—
A chilling answer.
"You become me."
Her breath caught.
For the first time—
She understood.
There was no normal way out.
No easy choice.
Either she stayed with Arjun…
And sank deeper into darkness.
Or she left…
And lost herself completely.
On the other side—
Arjun's voice dropped into a whisper.
"Please…"
A pause.
"Don't leave me again."
Her heart shattered.
The wall cracked one final time.
Aanya stepped forward.
Toward the barrier.
Toward him.
Her shadow lunged instantly.
Trying to pull her back.
But Arjun's shadow burst through the wall.
Wrapping around her waist.
Pulling her to him.
She collided into his chest.
Hard.
Breathless.
For a moment—
Silence.
Then Arjun's arms wrapped around her.
Tight.
Possessive.
Almost desperate.
"I told you," he whispered against her hair,
"I'm never letting you go."
Behind them—
The shattered shadows screamed.
The darkness trembled.
And Aanya felt it.
Something inside her…
Awakening.
A crimson glow flickered in her eyes.
Arjun noticed.
And for the first time—
He smiled.
Dark.
Soft.
Almost proud.
"Because the moment she chose him… the darkness chose her too."
