The west wing of Ravencrest University sat in uneasy silence.
Unlike the dorms or the engineering labs, this part of campus felt… hollow. The air carried a faint metallic scent, and the ground beneath Cassian's feet vibrated ever so slightly, as if something far below was shifting.
Cassian stopped just outside the maintenance access door.
Elara checked her scanner again.
"It's directly beneath us," she said. "The entire tunnel network is saturated with mana."
Aurora leaned against the wall, arms crossed.
"And the mystery thing?"
Elara's expression didn't change.
"Still there."
Cassian reached for the door and pushed it open.
A narrow concrete stairwell descended into darkness. Emergency lights flickered dimly along the walls, barely illuminating the steps.
Cassian extended a low-level mana field.
[Mana Construct Activated]
Soft blue light spread outward, forming a thin grid along the walls and floor as they descended.
[Mana Consumed: 12]
Aurora stepped down behind him.
"Well, this definitely feels like a boss room setup."
Elara followed last, her eyes scanning every inch of the space.
"This is different from the previous fractures," she said quietly. "The mana density is layered."
Cassian noticed it too.
The deeper they went, the heavier the pressure became—not chaotic like before, but structured. Deliberate.
That was new.
At the bottom of the stairwell, the tunnel opened into a wide maintenance corridor lined with pipes and electrical conduits. Several of the pipes had ruptured, leaking faintly glowing vapor into the air.
Cassian stepped forward slowly.
The domain connection weakened here.
Not broken.
But resisted.
Aurora frowned.
"Feels like something's pushing back."
Cassian nodded.
"It is."
A low rumble echoed through the tunnels.
Not distant.
Close.
Elara raised her hand slightly.
"Movement."
The sound came again—something dragging across the concrete floor.
Aurora's grin returned.
"Finally."
A shape emerged from the shadows ahead.
Then another.
Cassian's system activated instantly.
[Enemy Detected]
[Corrupted Tunnel Stalker – Level 12]
[Corrupted Tunnel Stalker – Level 13]
The creatures resembled elongated humanoid forms, their bodies stretched unnaturally thin. Their limbs dragged along the ground like broken marionettes, and their skin looked fused with dark metallic growths.
Their eyes glowed a dull red.
Aurora stepped forward.
"These look tougher."
The first Stalker lunged.
Aurora met it head-on.
Her fist collided with its torso—
—and stopped.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"…yeah. Tougher."
The creature's body barely moved.
Then it retaliated.
Its arm elongated suddenly, slamming into Aurora's side and sending her sliding across the tunnel floor.
Cassian reacted instantly.
[Mana Construct Activated]
The floor beneath the Stalker shifted upward, disrupting its balance.
[Mana Consumed: 20]
Elara followed with a precise mana strike aimed at its head.
The attack landed—but instead of collapsing, the creature absorbed part of the energy.
Elara's eyes sharpened.
"They're adapting."
Aurora pushed herself up, rolling her shoulder.
"Good."
She dashed forward again, this time aiming for its legs.
Her kick connected, shattering part of the metallic growth around its joints.
The Stalker staggered.
Cassian extended his senses further.
"These aren't standard spawns," he said.
"They're linked to the core."
The second Stalker lunged toward Elara.
Cassian reacted instantly.
[Mana Pulse]
The wave disrupted its trajectory just enough.
Elara stepped aside and drove a concentrated mana strike directly into its chest.
This time, the attack penetrated deeper.
The creature let out a distorted shriek.
Aurora capitalized.
She grabbed its arm and slammed it into the wall with explosive force.
The impact cracked the concrete.
The Stalker collapsed.
[Enemy Eliminated]
The remaining creature turned toward Cassian.
It moved faster now.
More aggressive.
Cassian stood his ground.
[Mana Construct: Reinforced Grid]
The tunnel floor lit up beneath the creature's feet.
[Mana Consumed: 28]
The Stalker's movement slowed as the grid restricted its mobility.
Aurora charged from the side.
With a sharp, controlled strike, she shattered its weakened joints.
Elara followed with a precise finishing pulse.
The creature collapsed.
[Enemy Eliminated]
Silence returned to the tunnel.
Aurora exhaled.
"Okay, those were actually decent."
Elara glanced at Cassian.
"They were drawing power from something deeper."
Cassian looked ahead into the darkness.
The tunnel extended further, bending slightly out of sight.
And from that direction…
A steady pulse of energy echoed.
Stronger than before.
He checked the system.
[Unidentified Entity Signature Confirmed]
[Location: Deeper Tunnel Sector]
Aurora smiled slowly.
"There it is."
Cassian began walking forward again.
"This is the source."
The tunnel grew narrower as they advanced, the walls becoming more distorted with mana-infused metal growths. The air felt heavier with every step.
Then they reached it.
A large open chamber carved into the maintenance network.
At the center stood a massive structure.
Not a creature.
Not a fracture.
A core.
But unlike the dungeon core beneath the campus, this one was unstable—pulsing violently with corrupted energy.
And attached to it…
Something moved.
A large figure slowly pulled itself free from the core's surface.
Cassian's system flared.
[Boss-Class Entity Detected]
[Corrupted Core Guardian – Level 15]
Aurora let out a low whistle.
"Now that's more like it."
The Guardian fully emerged.
Its body was massive, formed from twisted metal and condensed mana. Its arms were oversized, dragging along the ground, and its chest contained a glowing corrupted core that pulsed erratically.
Cassian narrowed his eyes.
Level fifteen.
Higher than anything they had faced so far.
Elara spoke quietly.
"This isn't just a fracture."
Cassian nodded.
"It's a failed domain."
Aurora stepped forward, cracking her knuckles.
"Then let's fix it."
The Guardian roared.
The tunnel shook.
And the final battle for Ravencrest University began.
