The Truth About the Abyss
Later that night Kael met Seraphine in one of the quiet towers overlooking the academy.
Moonlight poured through the tall windows.
"You said the hunters were created to destroy Abyss users," Kael said. "But why does the world fear this power so much?"
Seraphine sighed softly.
"Because your father once ruled half the continent."
Kael looked at her sharply.
"What?"
"He built an empire using Abyss magic," she continued. "A kingdom feared by every other nation."
Seraphine walked toward the window.
"But when your father disappeared, the empire collapsed. The world believed Abyss magic had finally vanished."
Kael clenched his fists slightly.
"And now they think it's back."
Seraphine nodded.
"Yes."
"And they will do anything to destroy it again."
