The Mark of the Abyss
As the group returned to the academy, Kael felt something strange.
At first, it was faint.
Almost unnoticeable.
A slight burning sensation in his chest.
But with each step—
It grew stronger.
By the time they reached the academy gates, Kael stopped walking entirely.
Seraphine noticed immediately.
"What is it?"
Kael didn't answer.
Instead, he grabbed his chest.
The pain intensified suddenly.
His vision blurred.
Then—
A surge of dark energy erupted from his body.
Students nearby stepped back in shock.
"What's happening to him?!"
Leon moved forward.
"Kael!"
Kael dropped to one knee.
The Abyss Ring glowed violently.
Then something appeared.
A symbol.
Dark.
Glowing.
Burned into his skin just below his collarbone.
Seraphine's eyes widened.
"That mark…"
Kael clenched his teeth.
"What is it…?"
Seraphine hesitated.
Then she said it.
"It's a binding mark."
Silence fell around them.
Kael slowly looked up.
"…Meaning?"
Seraphine's voice was calm—but serious.
"Something… or someone… has connected themselves to you."
