--Mid-Wilshire station--
As I got to my seat I saw Nolan jogging into the briefing room and that Lucy and Jackson was laughing. After I sat down Lucy and Jackson looked over at us and asked "Hey. Where were you two this weekend? We, uh, hit up a Dodger game and went to that pop-up karaoke disco."
"Uh, my back was bothering me, so I just stayed home to take care of it." Nolan answered then the three looked at me.
"I was at home was working on my car, you know the oil the filters and brakes. Had to change them. Then as I was doing that some drunk guy decided that my grass was a perfect place for his car last night so I spent the rest of the day fixing that so yea." I shrugged.
"Man you could have called we would have helped." Jackson said before I waved them off
"I had nothing planned so it happily happened on a day that I had off. so not too bad." Before anyone else could say something Grey walked in.
"All right, grab your seats. A special day here at Mid-Wilshire. In fact, we're gonna start off by playing a game I like to call "What is a patrol officer's least favorite assignment?" Officer Lopez, why don't you get us started."
"Easy. Guarding a dead body."
"Solid one. Officer Bradford?"
"Canvassing in the rain."
"Bishop."
"Driving the drunk wagon. It's just nasty."
"Without a doubt. And yet, for me, the absolute worst is the VIP ride along." right after Grey finished all of the officers groaned in the room.
"Why? That sounds like fun."
"Officer Bishop, would you like to inform your Boot why the ride along tops my list?"
"Because if anything happens to your VIP, it's your ass. So, you take the lowest of low-risk calls. It makes a 12-hour shift feel twice as long."
"Plus, you're trapped in a car all day with an entitled prima donna coated in body spray."
"Officer Nolan, you want to take a guess why we're playing this game?"
"Because you're giving me the VIP ride along?"
"No."
"Really?"
Grey perked up adding a smug sound to his voice. "No. You absolutely got the ride along." He's waiting in the Captain's office for you now." As Grey was finishing the other officers were letting out a small laugh at Nolan and Bishop's expense.
"Sir, is it too late to ask for a sick day?" Bishop asked
"Yes, it is."
"Uh, who is this VIP, anyway?" Nolan questioned Grey.
"Before you get up Alverez you get the fun job of assisting this ride along another uniformed body should help." Grey spoke up before waving everyone out signaling the briefings over.
We walked into the as Payne finished talking before he could continue the Captain saw us and waved us in introducing us to Payne.
"Mr. Payne, meet Officers Talia Bishop, Elena Alverez, and John Nolan. You'll be riding with them today."
"It's a pleasure." Payne said as he shook our hands before stepping away and Nolan started talking.
"I am such a huge fan."
"Oh, I'm so excited to be riding along with the oldest rookie in the world."
"I don't uh, well, I wouldn't say world."
"Don't sell yourself short, James."
"John."
"Captain, once again, thank you so much for allowing this. I know the rules of the ride along. I'll be happy with whatever level of calls you give us."
"I appreciate that, but we will make sure that you get to see some action."
"Great. Great." Payne said before leaving the office heading down to the bullpen
"He does not get anywhere near danger. Is that understood?" The Captain said to us.
"Yes, ma'am."
I raised my hand before speaking. "If he asks or does something dumb can we pepper spray him or handcuff him and leave him in the back of the shop?"
The Captain gave me a pointed look before responding. "No, you three know as much as we do he will ask for something the minute you either leave the office or the station keep him safe."
Bishop responded before we left the office. "We will do our best to keep him safe."
After we leave the office we head down to the bullpen meeting up with Payne.
"It is such an honor to be the one -" Nolan started to say to him before Payne cut him off.
"So, what's it gonna cost me to get to see some real action, huh? And don't forget I have what they call "stupid money."" He said while pulling out a big wad of money from his pocket.
"If you don't put that away, this ride along is gonna be over before it even starts." Bishop spat out
"If you don't put that money away Bishop promised I am being frank I will take it, I will then bag it as evidence of the lovely felony of attempted bribery of a Peace officer before cuffing and processing you." I sassed out before Bishop and I walked away walking to the kit room getting my gear and the shotguns and having Bishop put my body camera on before we headed to the shop leaving Nolan to grab his and Bishop's war bag.
"Tough negotiators, huh?" Payne asked us.
"They are not negotiating." Nolan responded before they took off for Nolan to grab the last two warbags.
--In the shop--
I booted Nolan to the back was took the driver seat refusing to sit next to our VIP.
"Does this vest make me look fat?" Payne asked.
"What, are you kidding? You look like you're ready to star in Trading Fire Five." Nolan asked
"Yeah, I've been training with these Special Forces guys."
"Oh, the same guys who trained Tom for the last movie? I watch all the behind-the-scenes videos."
As they were talking Dispatch came over the radio call back up to the park. "Wilshire units, we have shots fired, MacArthur Park."
"Let's go to that. Guys, let's go to that. I've got Lakers tickets with your name on them if you say yes." Payne started up tapping Nolan's shoulder before leaning forward
"Sorry, I'm a Clippers gal." Bishop shut him down before he could beg more
"Jonah, can you help me out, please?" Payne then turned to Nolan and started to beg him before I cut him off.
"No, anyways he can't help you he is not driving I am and he won't be driving for the rest of the shift today. if he starts cracking under your pressure I will lock you both in the back seat and leave you there." I said looking in the rearview for a second before turning back to the road. Then looking over to Bishop and seeing a look of approval. Before she could answer me Dispatch called on us.
"7-Adam-15, possible 459 at 910 Seabright Place."
"What's a 459?" Payne asked
"7-Adam-15 responding." Bishop spoke into the radio ignoring Payne.
Before looking into the rearview and looking at Payne before speaking. "Real, authentic police work."
"Yeah."
After a minute of driving I pull over at the curb of the house of the call before we all got out.
"Really? We passed up a shoot-out for this?" Payne sounded incredulous .
"Well, the neighbors reported hearing disturbing noises. That could be serious." Nolan responded
"Huh. Doubtful." Payne responded while we walked up the driveway to the house
" Listen, you want to see the difference between New York cops and L. A. ones, right?"
"Yep."
"Well, New York has 40,000 officers policing their streets. L. A. only has 9,000 operating in a city twice its size. We see a hell of a lot more action every shift."
"Yeah, you never know when that action's gonna happen. Some of these "smaller" calls can get ugly fast. Matter of fact, just to be safe, you should really just hang back." Nolan waved his hand to Payne. "To be safe."
We get to the door and when I start knock on the door the first contact pushed the door open. I look over at Nolan and Bishop before drawing my weapon and calling out.
"Police." As we slowly walk through the house checking rooms before we get to the back living room seeing a old movie projector spinning with the film end flapping loosly and seeing the back of someone's head in the sofa chair that was facing the screen.
"LAPD show me your hands!" I yell out the command as I rotate around the chair only to see a decaying body in the seat causing me to stop before holstering my gun calling out to Bishop and Nolan.
"Oh, she's been there a while." Payne said when he saw the body on the sofa
"And no one noticed." Nolan asked dejectedly.
After clearing the rest of the house Bishop called for the crime scene unit to come and start looking printing and taking pictures of the scene. While that was going to Nolan started looking for next of kin and Bishop started looking for the woman's meds to start taking notes and listing them out to the medical examiner.
As we almost finished at the scene Payne started to bother all of us.
"Yeah, her name is Crawford. Collette Crawford. Just looking for any relatives or family friends." after a couple of seconds Nolan asked again when they denied seeing anything finding any next of kin. "Could you check again? Uh, there has to be somebody."
While Bishop was listing the last of the medication to the medical examiner.
when he started to bother Bishop "Hey, can we go? Psst. Can we go?" Payne said while whispering to her.
"No, I need to get a Natural Causes Death Certificate issued first, and to do that, I need to go through all the medications with the medical examiner."
"Well, can I just pay them to do it so we can go?"
"No, you can't just throw money at your problems to make them go away. That's not how life works."
"Maybe not your life."
"Nolan." Bishop said to Nolan as she started to get fed up with Payne
"Uh, yeah, okay, thank you." Nolan said ending the call and walking to Payne before trying to talk sense into him.
"Okay, look, I-I get this isn't exciting for you, but it's important, and I know I, for one, will sleep better tonight knowing that we took care of Ms. Crawford's remains personally."
"Can I give you a note?" Payne said as he walked around looking at the pictures and other furniture in the house.
"A what?" Nolan answered confused while turning to face Payne.
"You're coming across a little earnest. Just try throwing it away a little more." Payne said while walking around coming to a stop in front of a picture of the victim from when she is younger.
"God, she's just so beautiful. She'd never be a leading lady today, though. Not unless she lost 30 pounds and had a nose job. That's the trouble with this business. It's so superficial."
"Yes, well, you could buck that, you know. You have the power to hire whoever you want."
"Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But, you know, audiences expect a certain look from my films. You know, I wouldn't want to disappoint them."
"Thank you." Bishop says before hanging up the phone. "Yeah, well, there is definitely a dark side to auto-paying all your bills." She said while looking around the room we were in.
"That is why I at least talk to my neighbors as much as possible so something like this does not happen." I said finishing my report.
"I couldn't find a single relative or family friend to claim the body. That's so heartbreaking." Nolan said to us.
"Doesn't surprise me. People forget you fast in this town." Payne said a little hurt while looking at the photo some more. Bishop then looks around before saying we have another 30 minutes before we can clear out and hand off the scene.
When everything was done we signed off the scene and then left heading back out on patrol.
"I'm just saying New York cops would've, you know, shown me a little bit of a better time by now."
"If you're unhappy with the quality of your ride along, please feel free to request another unit." Bishop immediately back at Payne
"Look, I'm not happy. You're not happy, either. You don't want to be taking these low-risk calls any more than I do."
"With all due respect, I don't think you could handle high-stakes calls." Bishop said a matter of factly to Payne.
"Oh, yeah, is that a challenge?"
"No, just an observation. I've seen one of your movies."
"What, you didn't like it?"
"It was fine. It just had nothing to do with real cop work."
Before they could continue their back and fourth Dispatch assigned us another call. "7-Adam-15, we have a 415 at 9386 9th Avenue."
"What's a 415?" Payne asked before we could respond to dispatch
"Family disturbance. Probably just a loud argument." Nolan said.
"It's not that far from here." Payne said happily.
"7-Adam-15 responding." Bishop said into the radio.
after 2 minutes of driving we arrive at the scene seeing a family in the front yard and a pan of burnt pancakes sitting in the grass. With a large man pacing back and forth in the grass shouting while others around him tried to calm him down.
Looking into the back directly at Payne. "Do not get out of the shop." I said before I got out joined shortly by Bishop and Nolan and I saw Payne get out. whispering.
"Yeah."
As we approach the scene as we got closer we hear the full conversation going on.
"NO!" The big man yelled as everyone adjusted around his movements.
"Relax. Everybody makes mistakes, bro. It's cool. Just chill." Another man on scene said talking to the big man who was still pacing around the yard.
But He was not having it and started to yell. "No! Go!"
and who I assumed was the mom cried out to the man "Ty."
he then paused and started to groaning.
"Yo, you're scaring her, man, come on. Everybody makes mistakes. Just chill." who sounded like his brother.
I also heard the smoke alarm going off.
"Finally, some action." Payne said sounding gleefully aloud.
"You, stay." Bishop sternly told him as we spread out as we approached.
But us moving in scared the man and got him more agitated.
"No!"
"Ty, Ty, it'll be okay." the brother said trying to sooth his brother. But instead of calming down he started yelling again.
"Shut up!"
"Everybody, put your hands where I can see them." Bishop spoke out addressing everyone here but got ignored
"Hey, back off. We don't need you here."
"Hey, Ma, I told you not to call the cops."
"No! No! Go away!" Ty said while raising his hands up to his temples and tapping his head.
"Yo, they gonna shoot him!" someone yelled out from the familial crowd
"Nobody's shooting anybody." Nolan said raising his hand to attempt to calm everyone.
"Everybody, put your hands where I can see them now." Bishop sternly spoke to everyone.
Then the Ty in the middle spoke up to her while looking down at the ground. "Go away!"
"Now." said to Ty .
When everyone did raise their hands the Ty in the middle did the same and that's when we saw that he had a knife his hand.
Which caused Bishop to yell. "Knife!!" causing us to back up and us to draw our weapons but keep the pointed at the ground.
"Put the knife down! Sir, drop the weapon now." Nolan spoke up to the man.
The sudden burst of commotion caused the Ty to suddenly become more agitated. "No! No! No! No! No! No!"
"Wait, wait, wait!" everyone else freaked out when we started to raise our weapons pointing them at Ty.
"Put the knife down! Put the weapon down now!" Nolan started to speak up more sternly this time at Ty.
"I need you to put the knife down now." Bishop spoke up to Ty.
After she said that everyone else from the family started to plead with both us and Ty to try to get us to stop and Ty to drop the knife.
"Don't shoot him. Don't shoot him."
"Tyson, it's okay. Put down the knife, please."
Tyson started to groan again while hitting his head with his free hand while holding the knife up with the other pointing it at us. "I did bad. Tyson did bad."
"Sir, we are just here to help you, but we can't help until you drop that knife." Nolan said while motioning at Tyson to put the knife down.
"Go. Go!"
"He doesn't understand. Please. He's not gonna hurt anyone. He's only a child. He doesn't know how big he is."
"Look, I won't let you hurt him." the man that was trying calm Tyson down when we got here said before stepping forward.
"I need you to step back now." Nolan held up his hand at the man trying to stop us.
"Everyone, take it down a notch." Bishop said while motioning at everyone to calm down.
With Tyson groaning this mom spoke up again. her voice breaking while she addressed us. "He got confused. The alarm. I-I shouldn't have yelled at him."
"Can someone go and turn the alarm off. please." I asked causing one of the men in the back to jog inside the house to turn it off and after a couple of seconds the alarm stopped beeping.
"I'm sorry, Momma, I'm so sorry." Tyson cried out holding his head with one hand.
The mom responded while crying. "It's okay, baby. I know you didn't mean to hurt me. I know!"
"I burnt the pancakes. I burnt the pancakes." Tyson said while hitting his head with his hand.
"Looks like you didn't flip them" Nolan said after looking at the pancakes in the grass.
"I forgot. I forgot. I forgot!" Tyson said while crying and hitting his head. while repeating it.
"I forget too sometimes." I said shrugged before continuing. "They are my favorite food and I still forget sometimes but you know I learned something from my mom about making pancakes." I said to Tyson causing him to calm down a little before looking up at me then hesitating before nodding at me.
"Well you see when you are looking at the pancakes if you look at the edge of it you can see the batter cooking and become less shiny when you see that around the entire pancake you know you can flip it. But right now I just need you to put the knife on the ground now. Tyson. Okay?"
After I finished and he hears me ask him to put the knife down he looks at his brother before his brother nodded at him, causing him to drop the knife. Which allowed us to holster our guns and hand cuff Tyson.
While we are cuffing him he apologized while crying to his mom.
"Sorry."
"It's okay."
With another family member okaying him.
after we get the cuffs on him we get him over to the car in front of the house while Bishop called in for another unit to transport him to a hospital. "7-Adam-15 requesting an additional unit for a 51-50 hold."
"Hey, y'all can let him go now. Momma not pressing no more charges." said Malcolm followed up by his mom
"That's right."
"But we're not taking him to jail. A doctor will evaluate his needs. Depending on the diagnosis, he may even qualify for a facility." Nolan told them explaining why he was still in cuffs.
"We can't afford that." the mom cried.
While this was going down I spotted Payne in the back getting his phone out and turning it sideways, but before he could raise it all the way up I pushed my way through the crowd grabbing it before he could start recording anything. But it looks like I wasn't the only one that noticed him as Malcolm got aggravated and started to walk to Payne.
"All right, you just lost your phone until this ride along is done. If you are going to be insensitive I will not only treat you as a child."
"Hey, what you doing, brah? What the hell you doing?"
"Step back. Step back.." Nolan tried to help defuse the situation. but it didn't help stop Malcolm
"What, you think my brother's pain is entertaining? Huh?" He said while still walking to Payne. I stepped between the two trying to calm him down.
"Sir, Please stop I have stopped him before he could record anything, We will head back to the Police station and we will have a nice chat with the our Captain about what he was doing." As I finished it seemed to help calm him down before the energy could affect Tyson too much as I can see him already rocking by the car. Good thing I did because when I had stopped and calmed down Malcolm the back unit we called for showed up.
"I'm scared." Tyson started to say hearing the sirens from the new police car.
"It's okay, honey. It's okay, T. It's okay. It's okay, honey. Don't worry." His mom started trying to calm him down as the new officers started to take him away.
Malcolm ran back over to Tyson and started to talk to him while the officers tried to take him away. "Hey, it's okay, T. I'm gonna come visit you. I promise." as his brother started to get pulled away. Causing the family to start to break down.
Nolan and I grabbed Payne and walked him to the shop getting him in the shop before locking him in and rolling down a window. "Stay in here while we finish up." Nolan said before we walked away from the shop.
When we got back to the station we got called to the Captains office after we turn in our warbags. After we do we walk up to the Captain's office but before we could even walk up the stairs she motioned to us to follow and started to yell at us.
"I was very clear, yet you brought our VIP into an incredibly volatile situation." The Captain started off.
"It was unintentional. We had no idea from the call how dangerous it was gonna be." Bishop replied.
The Captain stopped and looking between the three of us. "And that is the only reason that I am being pleasant right now. You're dismissed."
Right after the Captain walked into her office Payne walked up to us. "Crazy day, huh? Um, did you guys get in trouble?"
"No." Bishop replied
"Good. Look, I-I'm having a little thing at my place tonight, and I would love it if you'd come." Payne said while trying to invite us to a part he was having tonight.
"I'm gonna call it a day. Thanks." Bishop said before walking away to the changing room.
"She doesn't like me, does she?" Payne asked as we watched he walk away from us.
"No, she doesn't and frankly I don't either If I hadn't stopped you before you started recording on the call we could have had that end very differently and with you in an ambulance your money can not buy everything even though right now it seems like it can." I said before speed walking away to the locker rooms.
Before I walked out of the station Lucy called me. "It's Tim I think he's going to do something stupid to try and help his wife, Isabel, and I don't really know what to do."
"Okay I'll meet you at her building tonight and we will stop Tim before he digs his hole." I responded as we headed to our cars.
--Middle of night at Isabel's apartment--
We sat in Lucy's car waiting for Tim. "you can do most of the talking you might be better for this." Getting a nod from Lucy.
After some waiting we see Tim jogging back to his car. As we started to get in to the car he stopped recognizing us and Lucy's car.
"What are you two doing here?" He said as he walked to us.
"Your not helping only enabling her addiction." I said before anyone else can speak. Then Lucy picked up and started her rehearsed speech.
"No, what are you doing here?"
"Look, you're out of your depth on this." He walked to us before stopping after meeting Lucy half way.
"Look, I've been riding with you for two months. You project the rogue cop thing, but you are always on the right side of the law." Lucy spoke as he started to get more frustrated with Tim's defections.
"If you came all the way over here to psychoanalyze me, you wasted your time."
"No, I I came here to remind you that you'll regret helping her. Because it's not gonna change her. But it'll sure as hell change you." Before she could completely finish saying her piece Tim started back to his car. When it sounded like neither were going to talk again I walked around hugged Lucy then left.
"Now we wait to see what he does." I whispered to her before heading to my car and driving away seeing Lucy pause then do the same starting her car before leaving.
--7-Adam-15 Driving Patrol area--
I was sitting in the back looking around the areas we past though trying to memorize them for future reference or at least remember the busiest buildings.
"I heard you were the life of the party last night." I spoke up to Nolan while looking out the window.
"Did Rupert tell you that?"
No, we heard it from the midnight shift." Bishop spoke up.
"No. Uh, it was... interesting."
"I find the whole Hollywood thing depressing. All that energy spent on stuff that just doesn't matter." Nolan's phone started to vibrate in the cup holder. "Oh, hey, here's your BFF now."
I stopped looking out the window leaning forward to look at Nolan's phone screen. "Oh. You can get that."
Bishop nodded before swiping on Nolan's phone screen answering his phone.
"Hey. Rupert. Tell m-" Bishop started to say but before he could finish speaking Payne started to yell.
"Help! They're trying to kill me." He started begging us part way through the sentence. "You've got to come."
"Rupert?" Bishop asked before he looked back at the camera and told us where he is.
"My office."
"Rupert!" As Bishop yelled his name one last time she flipped on the sirens
"His office is on the studio lot." Nolan said before speeding ahead.
Then the phone went silent we only heard fabric rubbing and after Bishop called his name for a minute and not getting a response Bishop called it in.
"Dispatch, we have a possible 207 at Beverly Oaks Studios."
"John, are you still there?" Payne called out quietly to us while we saw him crouching down by a rack.
"Rupert?"
"I think I lost them."
"Rupert, are you okay? We're on our way."
"I've locked myself in the prop room."
"What's going on?" Bishop cut in on John's and Payne's conversation before to ask her question.
"I kept thinking about what happened yesterday, so I reached out to Tyson's brother. Look, at first, everything was fine, but then when I offered him money to pay for a facility, he got really angry. He started to hit me, and then his friends -" He started to explain to us but before he could finish talking there was yelling from outside the door to the room Payne locked himself in.
"What's going on?"
Payne started to whisper out when he heard the men again. "Oh, God - His friends -"
"Which way?! Come on!"
"wanted me to open the safe in my office, but I managed to get away." Payne finished speaking what he said earlier before we heard the men.
"Where'd he go?"
As the door started to rattle as the men chasing him started pulling and banging on the door before they started to kick it.
"Oh, God. John, help. Help!" Payne cried out before the door was kicked in. "No, no, no, no, no!"
"Please. Guys, please. Please. We gotta forget about him. Yo, let's get out of here!" then we heard what sounded like Malcolm from yesterday's call start talking before someone else started to speak.
"No, not until we get all that money from that safe in his office."
"I don't want his money." Malcolm spoke again before the man from before started to speak again.
"Yeah? Well, we do." Before they all grabbed Malcolm and started to drag him back out the room getting one last bit of sound from his phone before it cut off and hung up.
"Back to the offi-"
"I've lost him."
As we were driving to the studio lot Bishop called the security ahead of time and had them ready to point us in the right direction when we first pull up to the gate.
When we get there Nolan brakes at the gate before a security guard ran up to his side and started to point at a building "His office is in that building." After he said his piece the man backed away from the shop before we took off to the office in the direction we were pointed in.
We pull up intime to see Payne being led around by his friends. We start getting out as we drew weapons and Bishop and Nolan shout commands.
"Stop! Police!"
Don't Move!"
But instead of doing that the men raise there weapons and start shooting at us causing us to duck behind our shop and when we peaked back out we see Malcolm leading Payne off away from us while one of the men stay behind who kept popping up and shooting.
When he popped up again to start shooting we returned fire with Bishop hitting him in the stomach causing him to drop his weapon and fall down.
We start moving forward when Bishop tells the two other officers that responded with us to cuff the injured man then call it in. As we ran deeper into the studio we came across a tram full of studio tourists on a tour of the place. After we pass them we got to a mock neighborhood. As we progressed coming across a road split Bishop motioned for us to split up with Nolan and I going one direction to a bigger area and Bishop taking a smaller area off to the side.
When Nolan and I finish searching the road and small staging areas behind the buildings we come across a large warehouse we start clearing the rooms, room by room. When we got closer to the corner of the warehouse we hear grunting and see Malcolm dragging Payne back.
"Malcolm, stop! Your mother's suffered enough. You're only making it worse." Nolan called out when we saw them. We spread out to cover him with our gun raised as we cornered Malcolm in the warehouse.
"So what? You gonna be my savior now, too? Huh? Like Mr. Hollywood here? Offering me money to make himself feel like a hero?"
Payne cut in trying to explain him self to Malcolm. "To put your brother in a facility."
"Yeah, and what happens when that runs out, huh? How we supposed to pay for your fancy-ass facility and meds? You gonna give us money for next year and the year after that?"
"I told you, we'll work it out. You never let me finish telling you that I would employ you or your mom or both of you."
Causing Malcolm to dip his weapon for a second before raising it back up. "Work it out? Like it's that simple, huh? Like my brother's just gonna be fixed now that you're here to save the day."
Nolan started talking to Malcolm. "Malcolm, he doesn't understand."
"Oh, and you do?"
"No. God, no. I've never been in your shoes. I-I can't imagine what it's been like for you and your mom to have to care for your brother, to make sure he doesn't hurt himself, that he can never be alone. Then to have this poster child for entitlement call you up like that?"
"Hey!"
"It's gotta be infuriating. But this, Malcolm, this this helps no one. This only hurts your brother, and I know you don't want to do that. So, come on. Let's put the gun down and let's just end this, okay?"
When Malcolm started to lower his weapon Payne grabbed it disarming Malcolm and knocked him to the ground.
I start walking up to Payne with my hand raised for the gun. "Payne you idiot we had the situation defused before you acted."
But before I could get closer a cop that also responded to the call saw Payne with a gun missing me behind part of the set.
"Drop the weapon!!" The cop yells out before shooting at Payne.
"NO!" Nolan yelled out right before the gun fired. We look at Payne who got hit spinning off to the side before falling to the ground. I cuff Malcolm before running over to Payne while pulling on gloves and kneeling down to start treating Payne.
"You are so stupid I can't believe you Payne." I said while pressing gauze into the bullet wound. Nolan started to run over but stopped when he saw me treating Payne he then changed focus to Malcolm and started to search him Malcolm before leading him out to the shop and to call and direct an ambulance closer to us for Payne.
After waiting for the ambulance for how ever long it was felt like hours with every minute that passed with us still waiting but after some more time EMTs with an gurney showed up taking over and stopping the bleeding as much as possible.
When we got to the ambulance Nolan who met us half way out the building and started to talk to Payne.
"Ohh - I got shot."
"Yeah, you did." I said back to Payne before Nolan started to talk.
"It really hurts."
"Don't worry, they're gonna take good care of you. ER's just five minutes away."
"Will you visit me in the hospital?"
"Of course, yes."
"No, I'll leave that to Nolan." I said before walking away before stopping next to Bishop.
"Hey, please, tell Malcolm I'm sorry. I-I-I had no idea." Payne finished saying as they loaded him into the back of the ambulance.
"He's gonna be all right?" The Captain said while walking up to us.
"Yes, the location he got shot in is a through and through." I said to her before she continued.
"Good, then I don't have to wait to yell at you about getting your VIP shot." She said after looking at all three of us.
"Well, technically, the ride along was yesterday, so -" Nolan started before he stopped talking when he felt the Captain's disapproving him.
After we got finished with the scene we left and continued our patrol handing out speeding tickets and answered a noise disturbance call which turned out to be a family watching a movie way too loud forcing the neighbors to call up but with that the day was slow by the time we got back to the station and turned in the gear and finished the shift then we spilt and decided to not do anything tonight and decided to just go home.
