Chapter 7 - Deaths

Ninth death and I finally saw it, A way to kill that deer.

'It can be wounded thus it could be killed'

I thought, waiting at the front of the Academy.

"Sir, have you perhaps seen them?" A familiar feminine voice asked, and she handed me two from her stack of posters.

"No, I haven't seen them" I shook my head, glancing at the missing posters

It didn't change, it was still Zach and James.

"But could I ask for a favor?"

She looked around, paused for a few seconds then gave a small, hesitant nod.

"Can I borrow a knife, miss?"

"What for?" She asked, almost interrogating

Seeing her suspicion, I waved my hands in front of me and tried to explain

"Nothing weird, I just want to open up a package, it was sent to my dorm"

"Oh, I have one at a place I rented, it's near here so we can go there later" She said with a smile before grabbing her phone.

"You can add me first, I'll call you once I'm done with this" She said propping up the stack of posters.

"Can we go there now?" I asked and I could see her eye the posters to her side with worry.

"I'll help you distribute them" I said pumping my chest, but it looked awkward I could tell by her eyes.

"Okay, thanks!" She said splitting the posters before handing the other half to me.

"Or, we can distribute them now, it'll be fast don't worry" She said with a cheeky grin.

"That works too" I nodded following behind her.

We handed the fliers in silence, and once she's not looking I'll stuff some of them into my pants, I can see a huge bulge in my pocket once we're done.

"Thanks for the help" She said with a smile, wiping away her sweat.

"About the knife" I tried to remind her and she smiled at me.

"I didn't forget, we can go there now"

5:10

I found the deer at that same location, gripping the knife tightly, I closed my eyes and pictured its every move.

'Here goes' I thought pushing off my feet.

It took notice of me almost immediately, twisted its body and one of its hooves came flying.

I rolled forward and plunged the knife into his side.

'Okay, I just need to dodge this one' I pondered as I stepped back.

Just like before it began to thrash around, its hooves came flying at me at extreme speed, I tried to dodge but one grazed me by the cheek before another hit me on my shoulder.

'It hurts!'

Taking a deep breath I let momentum take me, sending me rolling down one of the trees.

"I'll eat you" Its throat vibrated before it opened its muzzle, showcasing me its rows of sharp teeth

It came flying at me, mouth open.

I rolled to the side immediately.

Gripping the knife tightly I waited before it crashed into the tree before charging.

The moment its teeth sank into the bark of the tree, it took notice of my approaching figure, my running figure reflected in its pure black eyes.

The last thing I saw was one of its hooves flying at me and I couldn't dodge in time.

I experienced my 10th death.

Repeating everything that happened, I returned to that moment.

'Here it comes'

Its teeth sinking into the bark of the tree, it stretches one of its forelegs at my direction

I tilted my body to the side but it still grazed my stomach.

Letting out a sharp breath, I rushed to the creature and stabbed the knife deep in his side and then withdrew it swiftly before backing away.

But it was all too slow, before I could even back away I was hit by its elbow that came back, it hit my side and I heard a bone pop as I was pushed to the ground.

11th death.

Knowing that his elbow was coming, I ducked down immediately after retrieving the knife.

"You're not getting away!" It screamed, its teeth letting go of the tree, letting it bleed from its many holes.

It stood in front of me, one of its hooves raised and I was too slow to dodge the upcoming attack.

12th death

The deer is too fast

13th death

I tried to dodge its attacks, but once it was no longer caught off guard, I could no longer follow its movements.

14th death

I still can't follow its movement

15th death

I need to kill it before it manages to recover from my ambush, without the element of surprise I couldn't keep up with the deer and I learned it the hard way.

I tried to hang on to the deer with my knife but I was kicked off using its powerful hind leg.

I was sent flying to one of the trees, the blow splitting it in half.

16th death

'Maybe I started wrong, should I have started by attacking its head?' I pondered, my head aching from exhaustion.

The moment I saw the hunched figure of the deer, I gripped my knife tightly and rushed towards it, rolled to dodge its upcoming arm then looked at its head which was too far for me to reach.

'The neck it is!' I thought, driving the knife into the creature's neck.

Its reaction surprised me, it screamed and lurched upright, and I was pulled up along with it, I struggled to keep my balance but the burning sensation on my palm forced me to let go of the knife

Thud

I hit the ground and it looked at me with its pitch-black eyes

17th death

18th death

19th death

.....

25th death

The blow couldn't kill it quickly enough, no matter how much time I tried to stall, the deer wouldn't go down.

"No matter what I do, I can't kill it, it's hopeless" I muttered to myself standing at the front of the campus, eyes dimmed from despair.

But my body moved on its own following the fixed scenario I had done over ten times.

Every movement was already ingrained in my body and before I knew it, I was standing there, knife in hand ready to shove it at the creature's neck.

"Might as well" I muttered

Taking a deep breath, I pushed off my feet and the creature immediately noticed.

It twisted its body, one of its legs going towards me.

I rolled with precision before standing up and driving the knife to the deer's neck.

"Easy now" I muttered, retrieving the knife

It screamed, raising and swiping at where it heard my voice but all it hit was air.

I was already in front of it, my knife sinking into its stomach

"4,3,2,1" counting, I retrieved the knife and kicked off the ground to propel myself backward.

A powerful stomp came from where I once stood.

I could see its Black eyes reflecting my figure.

"I'll kill you" It shrieked standing up.

I gripped the cold blade tightly in my hand and readied my stance.

It raised one of its legs and before it could slam it down I was already gone from where I once stood and all it hit was air.

The deer continues its rampage and I dodge moments before it could even launch them.

Sweat dripped down my cheek before I was hit by one of his many attacks

This was the problem, my body is too weak.

I was sent flying and hit one of the trees, it cracked releasing blood while I lay there on the leaves.

I cursed, struggling to stand up.

From the many times I died, I at least learned something and that is to ignore the pain and keep going.

But even if I can still stand up, I would die soon, my eyes wander to the deer's distant figure that is quickly approaching.

"He's still far" I grumbled, rubbing my side.

Using the leaves I tried to hide myself, thinking that I'll catch it off guard.

Gripping the knife tightly, I saw the deer approach the tree and let out a laugh

"You thought you could hide, I could smell you!" It screamed slamming its forelegs at the tree splitting it in half.

Blood sprayed and I lay there at the leaves forgetting to move.
