Chapter 2 – The First Abyssal Strike

The calm after Sephira's warnings lasted barely a day.

From the icy north to the southern coasts, the first of the Ancient Leviathan creators' automated defenses struck. Not in stealth, but in devastation. Massive Titans emerged from subglacial tunnels, from the abyssal trenches of the oceans, and even from dormant deserts, their crystalline bodies glittering with alien energy. The harmonic resonance of their cores sent shudders across the planet. Humanity's fragile peace shattered instantly.

Kael Varden watched the first reports from the Horizon's Edge, hovering over the shattered northern ice plains.

"Lyra… those energy readings… they're synchronized," he muttered. "These Titans aren't attacking randomly—they're hunting."

Lyra's fingers danced across her console. "Yes, Kael. And there's more. Each Titan leaves traces of ancient energy conduits beneath the ice, water, and tectonic zones. If we can destabilize them, we might slow them—but it'll require coordinated attacks across multiple continents."

Kael's eyes narrowed. "Then we split the Hunters. We strike at every node and every Titan we can find—or humanity dies."

Multi-Continent Chaos

The first Abyssal Strike was unprecedented:

Northern Ice Wastes – Subglacial Titans shattered settlements and research hubs. Glacier tunnels collapsed as Leviathan Hunters fought desperately to contain them.

Pacific Trench – Oceanic Leviathans, longer and faster than any previous generation, surfaced in waves, crushing naval defenses and coastal cities.

Eastern Continental Shelf – Smaller settlements were caught unprepared, Titans slamming into energy facilities, leaving survivors stranded and freezing in rising waters.

Kael's command split the Leviathan Hunters into three strike teams:

Ice Front – Kael personally led the northern team, targeting subglacial nodes.

Oceanic Front – Lyra directed orbital and submersible Hunters, attempting to intercept the first oceanic wave.

Eastern Containment – Vanguard squads defended critical energy conduits while evacuating civilians under relentless Titan assault.

First Titan Engagements

Kael's northern squad faced a prototype Titan, crystalline limbs layered with adaptive energy nodes. Its attacks shattered ice ridges and sent Hunters tumbling into freezing crevasses. Kael dodged a sweeping strike, firing destabilizer rounds at the Titan's knee node. Sparks erupted, but the Titan's adaptive systems began rerouting energy, absorbing damage faster than anticipated.

Lyra's voice came through comms, urgent: "Kael, I've updated the destabilizer matrix! Fire now and synchronize with the harmonic pulse—it could overload the node temporarily!"

Kael leapt from his jetpack, striking the Titan's chest node with a combination of kinetic rounds and energy blades. The Titan convulsed, ice cracking under its weight, but its back was just the beginning. Sensors detected three more Titans approaching from beneath the glaciers, each larger and faster than the last.

Faction Chaos Intensifies

Even as Kael's team fought, human factions interfered with deadly consequences:

Crimson Obsidian mercenaries raided northern settlements, attempting to seize Titan tech before Hunters could neutralize them.

Aegis Collective orbital strikes accidentally destroyed civilian sectors while targeting subglacial Titans, killing dozens of Hunters and survivors.

United Coalition units, trying to coordinate civilian evacuation, were caught in the crossfire and decimated by tidal waves from oceanic Leviathans.

Kael's face tightened. Humanity was its own worst enemy, and time was slipping away.

Lyra's Prototype Breakthrough

From Sephira, Lyra activated the Resonance Cascade Stabilizer, a prototype capable of severing Titan synchronization across a localized area. She aimed it at a subglacial Titan, watching its crystalline armor ripple as harmonic pulses convulsed through it.

"It's working… but only temporarily!" Lyra shouted. "The feedback wave will fry all comms for thirty seconds—Hunters will be blind during that time!"

Kael's jaw tightened. "We synchronize the strike. Hit hard, hit fast, or we all die."

Hunters launched, rounds fired, jetpacks flared—each pulse destabilized one Titan, then another. One by one, the subglacial monsters faltered. Sparks exploded, ice crumbled, and Kael landed a decisive blow to the largest prototype's core node, bringing it down with a deafening roar.

A Terrifying Revelation

As the first wave fell, Lyra noticed a pattern in the Titan signals. "Kael… the network isn't just for Titan coordination. It's planetary-scale. Every Titan, every conduit, is linked. If this network completes its synchronization, Titans could awaken simultaneously across all continents."

Kael's fists clenched. "Then this isn't a warning strike—it's a prelude to global annihilation. We fight the Titans, we contain the nodes, and we stop the factions from exploiting the technology… or humanity ends here."

From beneath the ice, deep ocean trenches, and distant deserts, harmonic pulses echoed. The first Abyssal Strike was over, but humanity had only survived the opening salvo of a planetary-scale war.
