Chapter 86 - A Small Glimmer

The next morning felt… quieter.

Not peaceful.

But softer.

Like the storm had paused—

Even if it hadn't ended.

Lian Hua opened the shop slowly.

Her movements were careful.

Measured.

As if anything too fast might break what little stability she had left.

Chen Kai arrived not long after.

He didn't say much.

Just placed a warm drink beside her.

"You should eat something too," he added.

She gave a small nod.

"…I will."

Even if she didn't feel like it.

The morning passed without much change.

A few customers.

A few small conversations.

Nothing overwhelming.

Nothing heavy.

And somehow—

That felt like a relief.

Around midday—

The bell rang again.

Lian Hua looked up.

And froze.

Zhen Wei.

He stood at the entrance.

Not rushed.

Not intense.

Just… there.

For a moment—

Neither of them moved.

Because after everything—

Even this simple moment felt fragile.

"…hi," she said softly.

It felt strange.

Too simple for everything between them.

Zhen Wei stepped inside.

"Hi."

His voice was quieter than usual.

Less sharp.

More… careful.

Chen Kai glanced between them.

Then—

Without saying anything—

He stepped away.

Giving them space.

Silence settled again.

But this time—

It wasn't suffocating.

Just uncertain.

"I didn't come to argue," Zhen Wei said.

Lian Hua nodded slightly.

"Okay."

A pause.

"I thought about what you said."

Her heart tightened.

"And?"

He looked at her.

"I understand it."

That surprised her.

Because she hadn't expected that.

"But I don't accept it," he added.

A faint breath escaped her.

"That sounds like you."

A small pause.

"And I thought about what you said too," she replied.

His gaze stayed on her.

"And?"

"I understand you," she said.

Silence.

Because now—

They weren't fighting.

They were listening.

"I was scared," she admitted again.

"I know."

"And I still am."

"I know that too."

A small pause.

"But I don't want fear to decide everything."

His expression softened slightly.

"Then don't let it."

Lian Hua looked at him.

"It's not that easy."

"I didn't say it was."

Another pause.

"But it's possible."

The words settled between them.

Not as pressure.

But as something else.

Possibility.

"I can't promise I won't struggle," she said.

"I'm not asking you to."

"I might doubt again."

"Then we deal with it again."

Her chest tightened slightly.

"…together?"

Zhen Wei didn't hesitate.

"Yes."

That word—

Simple.

But steady.

Lian Hua felt something shift inside her.

Not a full answer.

Not complete certainty.

But something small.

Something real.

"Okay," she said softly.

Zhen Wei stepped a little closer.

Not too close.

Just enough.

Because this time—

They weren't rushing.

They weren't forcing.

They were trying.

And sometimes—

That was enough to begin again.
