Chapter 87 - Fragile Peace

The calm that followed wasn't strong—

But it was real.

Not the kind that erased everything.

But the kind that allowed them to breathe again.

The flower shop slowly found its rhythm.

Not perfect.

Not as busy as before.

But steady enough.

Lian Hua moved more naturally now.

Not forcing smiles.

Not pretending as much.

Just… existing.

And that alone felt like progress.

Zhen Wei didn't come every day.

But when he did—

He didn't overwhelm the space.

He stayed.

Quietly.

Sometimes helping.

Sometimes just watching.

Sometimes simply being there.

"You're different," Lian Hua said one afternoon.

He glanced at her.

"How?"

"You're not trying to fix everything immediately."

A pause.

"I'm trying to do what you asked."

Her chest softened slightly.

"…it means a lot."

Across the room—

Chen Kai noticed everything.

The way they spoke.

The way they looked at each other.

The space between them—

Still careful.

Still fragile.

But no longer breaking.

That evening—

After closing—

The three of them walked out together.

An unusual balance.

Not tense.

Not comfortable either.

But… manageable.

"I'll head this way," Chen Kai said after a while.

He paused briefly.

Then looked at Lian Hua.

"Take care."

She nodded.

"You too."

For a moment—

His gaze lingered.

Not on both of them.

Just on her.

Then—

He turned and walked away.

Lian Hua watched him go.

"…he's been really supportive," she said quietly.

Zhen Wei didn't respond immediately.

Because he understood what that meant.

More than she was saying.

"I know," he said.

A pause.

"He cares about you."

Her heart skipped slightly.

"…he's my friend."

Zhen Wei looked at her.

"I didn't say otherwise."

Silence.

Because there were things—

Neither of them were saying yet.

They continued walking.

Side by side.

Not touching.

But close enough.

"Things aren't over," Zhen Wei said after a while.

She nodded.

"I know."

"My family won't stop."

"I know."

A pause.

"And neither will I."

She looked at him.

"…I know."

For a moment—

They both smiled faintly.

Because despite everything—

That hadn't changed.

The night air was calm.

But not peaceful.

Because somewhere beneath it—

The tension still existed.

Waiting.

Building.

But for now—

They had this.

Something fragile.

Something uncertain.

Something real.
