Chapter 105 - Rebuilding Carefully

Starting over didn't feel like a fresh beginning.

It felt… cautious.

Measured.

Like walking on ground that had already cracked once before.

Zhen Wei stood outside the shop as Lian Hua approached.

This time—

She didn't stop.

Didn't hesitate.

She walked straight to him.

"…you waited," she said softly.

"I said I would."

Simple.

But different.

Because now—

Every action carried weight.

They didn't stand too close.

Didn't reach for each other immediately.

Not because they didn't want to—

But because they were choosing not to rush.

"Did everything go okay today?" he asked.

She nodded.

"…mostly."

A small pause.

"Chen Kai knows."

Zhen Wei's expression shifted slightly.

Not surprised.

Just… acknowledging.

"And?" he asked.

Lian Hua looked down briefly.

"He took it well."

A pause.

"…but it still hurt him."

Silence.

Because that—

Was unavoidable.

Zhen Wei exhaled quietly.

"He cares about you."

She nodded.

"I know."

Another pause.

"And I don't want to hurt him more than I already have."

Zhen Wei looked at her.

"You can't protect everyone."

The words were calm.

Not harsh.

But real.

Lian Hua's chest tightened slightly.

"…I know."

Because that was the truth she was learning—

The hard way.

They started walking.

Side by side.

Not touching.

But this time—

There was no distance between them.

Not emotionally.

"I meant what I said," Zhen Wei spoke after a while.

She glanced at him.

"About what?"

"About not doing this halfway."

Her heart steadied.

"…me too."

A small pause.

"But I need time," she added.

"Not to decide."

He looked at her.

"…but to adjust."

He nodded.

"I understand."

And he did.

Because this time—

They weren't trying to go back.

They were trying to build something new.

That night—

The shop felt different again.

Not empty.

Not heavy.

Just… quieter.

Chen Kai worked in the background.

Focused.

Professional.

But the ease between them—

Had shifted.

"Do you need help with that?" she asked.

He glanced at her briefly.

"I've got it."

Polite.

Kind.

But distant.

And that—

Hurt in a different way.

Because not all pain was loud.

Some of it—

Was quiet.
