Chapter 10 - V1 Ch8- Back to Normal !!?...

Chapter 8 – Back to Life

Three months later...

School – Care's POV

The first day back at school after three months felt surreal.

The moment I stepped through the gates, whispers swirled around me like wind catching dry leaves.

Care's back…

She's alive…

After everything…

I kept my head high, hiding the tremor in my chest. Three months of treatment, endless nights of needles and exhaustion, and yet here I was. I was… present.

I noticed familiar faces stiffen as I walked past. Some stared openly. Some tried to pretend they hadn't noticed me. But I knew. I always knew.

Nova and Lyra were waiting by the lockers. Lyra had moved closer, books in hand, already looking like she belonged here with us. She smiled softly.

"Care," she said, voice low, but full of warmth. "You look… strong."

I gave her a small smile, letting my lips curve naturally for the first time in months. "Stronger than ever. And ready for exams."

Cole, Ben, and Daisy were nearby, pretending to scroll through notes, but I could feel their eyes on me. Cole's gaze lingered the longest, sharp and quiet, like he was making sure I was really okay.

"Care," Ben said softly, stepping forward. "You… you look well. Really."

I nodded, my chest tightening. "Thanks, Ben. Means a lot."

Daisy nudged him slightly. "Stop being so formal. She's back, that's all that matters."

Across the hallway, my other friends—the ones who had once shared classrooms with me—smiled cautiously. They didn't know everything I had been through, but I could tell they were relieved to see me alive and… mostly myself again.

I took a deep breath, letting it fill my lungs. The school felt normal. Scary. Exciting. And… mine again.

Lyra's POV

Even in the middle of a busy hallway, I felt like I had returned to my rightful place beside her.

Care looked different—healthier, lighter, her aura… untouchable again, but softer somehow. Three months had left their mark, but she hadn't been broken. Not even a little.

I whispered beside her ear as we walked to class together, "You're back. I've missed you."

She smiled, that quiet smile that made everything feel okay. "I missed you too, Lyra."

Cole's POV

I didn't hide it. I watched. Every step she took, every smile she tried to give, every glance she shot at someone else—my chest tightened.

She was alive. She was here. And she was mine, in some unspoken way, even if no one else knew it yet.

I wanted to protect her, shield her from stress, from judgment, from even a single whisper. But more than that… I wanted to see her live. Really live.

I glanced at Ben and Daisy, sharing silent acknowledgment. She was back. And we were going to make sure she stayed that way.

School Friends – POV

Across the corridor, friends I hadn't seen in months were whispering.

"Care's back," one said.

"She looks… alive."

"I can't believe she came back. After all that happened…"

I caught their hesitant eyes and held my gaze, letting them know I had survived. That I had come back for life, for exams, for them, and most of all, for my own peace.

Care Invites Everyone

By lunch, we were sitting together in the cafeteria. Lyra had her bag balanced on the table, opening a textbook as if she belonged there.

I looked around the table. "We should all study together tonight," I suggested. "At our house. Exams are coming. Everyone's welcome."

Daisy grinned. "Finally! No excuses. Snacks, tea, and torture—I mean, study, right?"

Ben nodded. "I'm in. I want to see if you've really come back to top form, Care."

Cole only smiled faintly, but I could see the glimmer of pride and something else—something quiet and careful.

Lyra leaned forward, excitement barely contained. "I'm there. Can't wait to see everyone together. It feels… complete."

The others murmured agreements. It felt like the room itself sighed in relief. Normalcy was creeping back into my life.

Night at their House – Ash's POV

By evening, their house was buzzing. Books, pens, notebooks, snacks, laptops… it was chaotic but homey.

Care sat in the center, her notes open, highlighting everything with laser focus. Lyra sat beside her, quizzing her in between bites of chocolate. Daisy sprawled on the sofa, making silly jokes to lighten the mood. Ben hovered nearby, protective but teasing. Cole was quietly beside Care, scribbling in his notebook, occasionally leaning close to whisper corrections.

I was just… watching. My heart full. She was back. The girl I had seen almost disappear was sitting right there, studying, laughing, breathing.

Every time she winced from stress or fatigue, I rushed to adjust a pillow or hand her water. And every time, she nodded, smiled, and kept going.

"Care, you've been through hell," I whispered at one point. "Take it slow."

"I'm okay, Ash. Really," she replied, eyes sparkling with stubborn determination.

I let her be. She was fierce. She had survived the impossible.

Group Study Chaos

The night was alive with study and chaos.

Daisy teased Care relentlessly. "Care, did you really survive three months of hospitals to come back and study this much?"

"Don't tempt me," Care said with a faint grin. "I'll beat all of you at math by midnight."

Ben rolled his eyes. "You've still got it, obviously. But stop ignoring your water, little sister."

Cole leaned closer to Care, voice low. "Take a break for a moment."

Care glanced at him, lips curving slightly. "Not yet. Almost done."

Lyra whispered over her shoulder, "We've got this. Together."

The laughter, the teasing, the gentle arguments—they all felt like medicine. Not the hospital kind. The kind that healed hearts.

Lyra POV – Study Ally

I leaned close to Care, whispering, "Don't forget to breathe, okay?"

She smiled faintly. "I won't. Thanks, Lyra. For everything."

Even from my new school, even when I couldn't be everywhere, these nights reminded me: Care wasn't alone. She had all of us, and nothing could take that away.

Ben and Daisy POV – Protective and Playful

Ben leaned back, watching Care scribble. "You know," he said, almost to himself, "she's… she's like my little sister. Seeing her like this, studying, laughing… I'll never let anything happen to her again."

Daisy snorted. "And I'll make sure she doesn't forget how to have fun in the process. Seriously, someone's got to tease her into smiling."

They exchanged a look of quiet teamwork, both of them aware how important it was to let Care live fully, after everything she'd endured.

The night continued—notes, laughter, gentle teasing, and quiet moments where Care felt truly surrounded by love. Every glance, every whispered encouragement, every shared joke reminded her: she was back. Back to normal, back to life, back to them.

And for the first time in a long time, she allowed herself to believe she could really stay that way.

Nova's POV – Watching Care Shine

I leaned back in my chair, notebook half-forgotten in my lap, and watched Care.

After months of stress, hospitals, and endless treatments, seeing her here—alive, laughing, studying—made my chest ache in relief. Every small movement, every smile, every glance she gave someone around the table reminded me why I had stayed by her side all this time.

"Care, you missed a word in this sentence," I whispered gently, nudging her book.

She looked up, smiled faintly, and corrected it herself. "Thanks, Nova."

It was simple. But to me, it meant everything. She was back in control of her life again. She was fighting, surviving, thriving… not for anyone else, but for herself.

Lyra leaned in, quizzing her on a history date, and Care answered quickly, perfectly. I smiled softly, proud in a way I hadn't let myself feel in months.

Daisy teased her, Ben hovered protectively, Cole leaned quietly near her—there was so much love around her, surrounding her like a shield. And for once, she didn't need to hide.

At one point, I noticed Cole's hand brush against hers. Not a textbook hand, not a friend hand—something warmer. My chest tightened a little, because I knew. I had always known. Care had earned every bit of affection she received, and seeing it quietly bloom made me happy.

I glanced around the room. Ash fussing over snacks, Lyra encouraging Care gently, Daisy joking, Ben watching over her… and Care, glowing despite the exhaustion in her eyes. My heart swelled.

I leaned slightly closer, murmuring, "You've done so much, Care… and you've survived it all. You deserve this."

Her eyes met mine for a moment, and I saw gratitude there. Not just for me, but for everyone who had stayed by her side.

It wasn't just about surviving a tumor anymore. It was about returning to life—her life, fully, surrounded by love and friends who wouldn't let her face anything alone. And tonight, in this little chaos of books, notes, laughter, and quiet support, she truly was back.

No whispers. No hospitals. No fear. Just Care, alive and strong, exactly where she belonged.

Cole and Care – Secret Moment

Later, when the room quieted and everyone was absorbed in notes, Cole leaned toward Care, voice low and deliberate.

"Care…"

Her eyes met his. Heat rose in her chest.

"I…" he hesitated, then exhaled. "I want to be with you. Not just in secret, not just in these notes and study sessions. But properly. You and me. Together."

Care's heart skipped. Her lips trembled into a small smile. "Cole… I…"

"I know. I felt it too," he whispered, brushing her hand with his. "Tomorrow. After school. A date. In the park. Just you and me. No one else."

She blinked, a laugh and a tear mingling. "Yes. Tomorrow. I want that too."

He squeezed her hand gently. "Good. Just… be you. That's all I need."

For the first time in months, I felt… light. Loved. Safe. Strong.
