Chapter 5 - An Invitation

|Otherworlder's aura detected|

|Dexterity has been additionally increased by 2|

Otherworlder's aura...? That's new. I don't remember any skill or trait with that name.

"System, can you show me my main profile?"

|Yes, Master Elias|

|PLAYER PROFILE|

|NAME: Elias

|AGE: 21

|CLASS: N/A

|SKILLS: N/A

|INNATE TRAITS: Otherworlder's Aura [E]

|TRAITS: N/A

"Wow... That's depressing..."

I'm actually in my thirties, but I guess my age is based on how old this body is, not my soul.

"Expand information on Otherworlder's Aura."

|INNATE TRAIT: Otherworlder's Aura|

|Player is not an entity of this world, hence has not developed much resistance to status effects. All buffs and debuffs will have double the effect when used by the player. This trait grows with the player.|

"So basically, it's a double edged sword. I like that it's a growth type trait, and the double effect for buffs is really good, but at the same time, I will be at too big a disadvantage against enemies like Shamans of the Eastern Forests."

"System, does double effects also apply to the time they last?"

|Since your proficiency is low, these are the only effects of this trait. The more you utilise it, the more features you will unlock|

Hmm. I'll explore the rest of the system's abilities later. I should utilise my dexterity boost before it runs out. As far as I remember, lesser potions last around one hour, so I must do as much stamina training as I can.

40 minutes into my training I noticed a soldier watching me, standing right outside the training grounds. I had been so engrossed in having been thrown into this world -and gaining a system- that I hadn't even checked where I was.

I signalled the soldier to come closer.

Sweat dripped from my face, my muscles groaned from pain, just from some light exercise.

"That witch of a saintess really screwed me over, huh?"

While the soldier walked towards me, I looked around my surroundings. Where I stood right now was definitely one of the top training arenas in the game, having high ranked mana stone operated equipments for more intense training exercises. A grand structure stood before me—calling it a mansion would be an insult. This was a castle.

Now that I think about it, there's no way this big of a building could possibly be this broke bastard's... I remember that every time we cleared a quest, the King would offer him large amounts of gold, but he'd always donate almost all of it, spending the rest on food and shelter. I just assumed that it's a ragebait from the developers, and since the money is received and spent in the same cut scenes, it didn't really matter much to me.

"It's an honour to meet the Knight of Light, Sir Cain. I am Beros, a soldier in training. I was waiting for you to finish up your training so I could relay a message from the Duke. I apologise if I interrupted your training."

Right... Cain.

"No, it's alright. Before that, where am I?"

"Of course. You are currently under the protection of House Valencrest, one of the four great dukedoms of the Empire."

Valencrest? That's weird. They were supposed to be a neutral faction... Why would they shelter me here?

"What was the Duke's message?"

"My Lord said… he has many questions regarding what happened at the Demon King's battlefield. He wishes to meet with you in his office when you're healed"

?!

That's weird. Not once did He ever meddle in remotely any important events in the story. I must go and see what he's up to.

Sigh... This is just great...I just woke up in a new world, I'm cursed, and now one of the most powerful men in the empire wants to talk to me.

"Alright, guide me to his office."

"Right this way, sir."

Yeah… this definitely won't end badly.
