Chapter 54 - The Lost Challenge

The white light of the pocket dimension faded away completely.

Daniel Voss stepped back into the cold, reinforced corridor of what was left of M.E.G. Base Alpha. The air still smelled faintly of blood and scorched metal. The other Chosen were waiting near the emergency node — Vannia, Mia, and the rest — their faces tight with worry and exhaustion.

Vannia stepped forward the moment she saw him.

"Daniel! Are you—"

She never finished the sentence.

The air in front of Daniel shimmered violently.

A massive, glowing interface suddenly materialized, larger and more imposing than any system message he had ever seen. The text burned with platinum-white and deep crimson letters, pulsing like a living heartbeat.

```
[THE LOST CHALLENGE]
A Pantheon-Sanctioned Trial has been issued.
Title: The Lost Challenge
Type: Personal / Reality-Altering Trial
Objective: Enter the Lost Corridor and confront the echo of what was never meant to be found.
Time Limit: 72 hours (real time)
Warning: This challenge cannot be refused. It has already begun.
The Lost Corridor awaits, Conductor.
Do you dare walk the path that even No. Infinity feared?
```

The interface hung motionless in the air. Golden chains of light extended from it and wrapped around Daniel's left wrist like a binding contract, sinking into his skin as glowing tattoos.

Everyone froze.

Vannia's eyes widened in horror. "Daniel… what the hell is that?"

Mia's Precognitive Flare ignited instantly. Her face turned pale. "It's bad. Really bad. I'm seeing fragments… a corridor that shouldn't exist. Something older than the levels themselves."

The other Chosen gathered closer, weapons half-raised, auras flaring with tension.

Daniel stared at the glowing text, reading it twice. His fingers tightened around the golden baton.

"The Lost Challenge…" he murmured.

A soft, almost mocking chuckle echoed from the interface itself.

The text updated one final time:

```
[Challenge Accepted]
You have 72 hours.
The Lost Corridor is now open.
Good luck, Conductor.
You will need it.
```

The golden chains tightened for a moment, then faded into his skin.

Daniel exhaled slowly and turned to face the others.

"I have to go."

Vannia immediately stepped forward, silver aura blazing. "Like hell you do. We're coming with you—"

"No." Daniel's voice was firm, but there was a quiet gentleness beneath it. "This challenge is personal. If any of you try to enter with me, the penalty activates. One random Chosen dies. I won't risk that."

He looked at each of them — especially Vannia and Mia.

"I'll come back. I promise."

Vannia's fists clenched. "Daniel—"

He gave her a small, tired smile.

"Take care of each other while I'm gone."

Daniel raised the golden baton. A single clear note rang out, tearing open a jagged, pitch-black rift in the corridor wall. Beyond it was only pure darkness and the faint, distant sound of something ancient breathing.

He took one step toward the rift, then paused and looked back at Vannia one last time.

"If I don't return in 72 hours… prepare for the worst. Allseer is still out there."

Then Daniel Voss, The Conductor, stepped into the Lost Corridor.

The rift sealed behind him with a soft, final click.

Silence fell over the remaining Chosen.

Vannia stared at the empty space where he had vanished, her silver aura flickering unsteadily.

Mia whispered, voice trembling, "72 hours…"

The Lost Challenge had begun.

And somewhere in the deepest, most forbidden layer of the Backrooms, Daniel was now walking a path that even System User No. Infinity had feared.
