Chapter 3 - Tiffin Mystery

A month had passed. Oliver Miki was now known in class as the mysterious student. He sat at the last bench as usual. Blue shirt, green pants, black blazer, red tie—everything neat. Beside him, the invisible ghost floated silently.

As tiffin time began, a few girls gathered around his desk again. Maria also came and stood nearby.

One girl looked at Oliver and said:

Girl 1: Your blue hair and red eyes are so unique. Can I take a photo?

Oliver raised his head.

Miki: Is it necessary?

Girl 1: Yes, just one.

She took out her phone and opened the camera. Everyone moved a little aside.

When she pointed the camera at Oliver, the screen blurred.

Girl 1: Hey?

She tried to focus again.

Still blurred.

Girl 2: Fix the camera.

She clicked once more.

This time the screen went completely black.

Girl 1: What's happening?!

Maria looked at the phone screen.

Maria: It was fine just a moment ago.

The invisible ghost floated nearby and laughed quietly.

Bhoot: Classic result.

Oliver spoke calmly.

Miki: Maybe it's a phone problem.

Girl 1: No, that's impossible.

She changed the angle and clicked again.

This time, the classroom appeared clearly—but Oliver was not on the screen.

Girl 2: What?!

Girl 3: Why aren't you showing up?

Maria now looked at Oliver with more curiosity.

Maria: This isn't normal.

Oliver opened his lunch box.

Miki: The camera doesn't like me.

The invisible ghost slowly became visible to the girls. Black jacket, skull head, one eye red, the other black.

Girl 2: Aaah!

Girl 3: A ghost!!

Girl 1: So this is the reason the photo didn't work?!

The ghost spoke calmly.

Bhoot: No, it's a separate problem.

Maria grabbed a chair and leaned forward seriously.

Maria: So you really aren't normal…

Oliver looked out the window.

Miki: I try to be normal.

Bhoot: But success rate is low.

Oliver remained silent for a few seconds. The classroom noise lowered slightly. The girls still hovered around his desk, Maria at the front.

He slowly closed his lunch box.

Miki: I'll tell you a secret… but promise you won't tell anyone.

Everyone leaned forward together.

All Girls: Promised.

The invisible ghost floated nearby and chuckled lightly.

Bhoot: Risky decision.

Maria looked serious.

Maria: We won't tell.

Oliver looked at everyone for a few seconds, then said in a low voice:

Miki: My photo doesn't come out. Videos aren't clear either.

Girl 1: So that's why the camera didn't work earlier?

Miki: Yes.

Girl 2: But why?

Oliver didn't answer directly.

Miki: Even reflections in mirrors aren't always clear.

The classroom went quiet.

Girl 3: Impossible…

Girl 5: Then who are you really?

The invisible ghost spoke in a low voice.

Bhoot: Avoid the main part for now.

Oliver looked toward the window.

Miki: I just want a normal school life.

Maria spoke softly.

Maria: And the ghost?

Oliver glanced at the ghost beside him.

Miki: It's my problem… and my companion—both.

The ghost became visible in front of the girls.

Bhoot: The word "companion" is acceptable.

The girls were surprised again but no longer afraid.

Girl 1: So you have more secrets?

Oliver smiled lightly.

Miki: I do. But not all at once.

Maria folded her hands.

Maria: Alright. But from today, you'll be even more suspicious.

Bhoot: Congratulations.

Oliver smiled faintly. The classroom tension eased slightly. The ghost stayed quietly beside him.

Miki: Anyway, tell me your names.

The first girl in front raised her hand.

Girl 1: I am Meherun.

Next to her, another girl said:

Girl 2: Rani.

Girl 3: Sumaiya.

Girl 4: Nabila.

Girl 5: Yuki.

Maria smiled softly.

Maria: My name you already know—Maria Islam.

Oliver nodded.

Miki: Alright, now the class names are officially known.

The invisible ghost floated nearby.

Bhoot: Social database updated.

Meherun: What's your full name again?

Miki: Oliver Miki.

Rani: You came from Japan, right?

Miki: Yes.

Yuki: And the ghost's name?

The ghost paused for a few seconds.

Bhoot: Name later.

Maria: Why?

Bhoot: The mystery must be maintained.

Everyone chuckled lightly.

At that moment, the bell rang.

The teacher entered the classroom from the corridor.

Oliver returned to his seat.

Miki: We'll talk later.

The ghost slowly became invisible again.

Maria glanced back at him as she went to her seat. Today, her fear had lessened, replaced by curiosity.
