Chapter 19 - Chapter 19 – The Truth Hidden Behind Closed Doors

Arlen stood in front of Mira's house.

The silence was still there.

Heavy.

Unmoving.

It felt different from any silence he had ever known.

This wasn't peace.

This wasn't calm.

This was something that hid things.

Something that refused to answer.

His hand slowly lowered from the door.

Knocking again wouldn't change anything.

He knew that now.

But leaving—

felt impossible.

"…Mira," he whispered.

The name felt fragile on his lips.

As if saying it too loudly might break something that was already breaking.

He looked around.

The village was alive.

People walked past.

Some glanced at him.

Some ignored him.

But no one stopped.

No one said anything.

And that silence from others—

felt just as strange.

As if they knew something.

As if they were choosing not to speak.

Arlen's chest tightened.

He stepped back from the door.

His eyes moved slowly across the house.

Windows closed.

Curtains drawn.

No light.

No movement.

Nothing.

It didn't feel like someone was inside.

It felt like something had been taken away.

Suddenly—

a faint sound.

Footsteps.

Arlen turned.

An old woman stood a few steps away.

Her eyes rested on him.

Not curious.

Not surprised.

Just… quiet.

"You're looking for her," she said.

Her voice was calm.

Too calm.

Arlen stepped closer.

"Yes."

A pause.

"Where is Mira?"

The woman didn't answer immediately.

She looked at the house.

Then back at him.

"You shouldn't be here."

Those words hit harder than expected.

"…Why?"

His voice was steady.

But inside—

everything was beginning to shake.

The woman sighed softly.

"This place… it doesn't allow things like you."

Arlen frowned slightly.

"…Like me?"

She didn't explain directly.

But her eyes did.

Different.

Outsider.

Unacceptable.

Arlen's jaw tightened.

"I'm not asking about the village."

He took another step forward.

"I'm asking about Mira."

Silence again.

Longer this time.

Then—

"She was taken."

The world stopped.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

Just—

stopped.

Arlen didn't react immediately.

"…Taken?"

The word felt unreal.

Like something that didn't belong in this moment.

The woman nodded slowly.

"This morning."

His mind tried to process it.

But something inside him refused.

"By who?"

He already knew the answer.

But he needed to hear it.

"The sect."

The word fell like a weight.

Cold.

Final.

Arlen's hands slowly clenched.

"…Why?"

His voice dropped.

Lower.

Darker.

The woman hesitated.

Then spoke.

"Because she was seen with you."

Silence.

Deep.

Crushing.

"They don't allow bonds like that," she continued.

"They believe it brings impurity."

Every word felt like a blade.

Sharp.

Precise.

Cutting deeper with each second.

Arlen's breathing changed.

Not fast.

Not loud.

But heavier.

"…Where did they take her?"

The woman looked at him.

And for the first time—

there was something in her eyes.

Fear.

"You shouldn't go there."

"That's not what I asked."

His voice didn't rise.

But it lost all warmth.

All softness.

The woman swallowed slightly.

"…To the inner grounds."

Arlen turned immediately.

No hesitation.

No second thought.

But before he could take a step—

the woman spoke again.

"If you go…"

He stopped.

"…you won't come back."

A pause.

Then—

"Neither will she."

Those words lingered in the air.

But they didn't stop him.

Because something inside him had already changed.

Fear was no longer the strongest feeling.

Something else had taken its place.

Something deeper.

Stronger.

More dangerous.

He began to walk.

Each step heavier than the last.

Not because he was unsure.

But because he was holding something back.

Something that wanted to break free.

The path toward the sect wasn't hidden.

But it felt distant.

Long.

As if the world itself was trying to slow him down.

The sky had started to darken.

Clouds gathering slowly.

The wind picking up.

Everything around him began to shift.

Reflecting what was happening inside him.

His thoughts repeated only one thing.

Mira.

Her voice.

Her smile.

Her touch.

The way she said his name.

The way she asked him not to be late.

And he wasn't late.

He came.

He waited.

But she—

never came.

Because she couldn't.

Because she was taken.

Because of him.

That thought—

cut deeper than anything else.

His steps stopped for a moment.

His head lowered slightly.

"…No."

The word was quiet.

But firm.

"I won't let this end like this."

He lifted his head again.

And this time—

his eyes were different.

Not just worried.

Not just afraid.

There was something else now.

Something darker.

Something that had been sleeping.

But was slowly waking up.

The wind grew stronger.

The trees moved violently.

The sky darkened further.

And Arlen—

walked forward.

Toward the place where everything would change.

Toward the place where love would be tested—

not by distance.

But by cruelty.

By belief.

By blood.

Because sometimes—

the world doesn't break love gently.

It tears it apart—

to see what remains.

And what was about to remain…

was not something the world was ready for.
