Chapter 3 - The Secret Between Us

The night air felt colder than usual.

Ashra stood frozen in the quiet street, staring at Rusof.

Moments ago, she had watched him move faster than human eyes could follow. She had seen him fight a man armed with a silver blade. She had seen his eyes glow red.

And she had seen the fangs.

There was no denying it.

Rusof Noir was a vampire.

The silence between them felt heavy.

Rusof slowly picked up the silver blade the hunter had left behind. His expression was calm again, but Ashra could sense something tense behind it.

His voice was quiet.

"You shouldn't be here."

Ashra blinked.

"This is the street to my house."

Rusof paused. Then he sighed slightly.

"Right."

For a moment neither of them spoke.

Ashra's heart was still racing, but strangely she didn't feel the overwhelming fear she expected. Instead, she felt confused. Curious. And oddly… safe.

She looked at him again.

"Are you going to hurt me?"

Rusof immediately shook his head.

"No."

The answer came too quickly. Too firmly.

Ashra studied his face carefully.

"Then why are you looking at me like that?"

Rusof frowned slightly.

"Like what?"

Ashra crossed her arms.

"Like you're deciding whether to erase my memory or something."

Rusof blinked. Then, unexpectedly, he let out a quiet laugh.

Ashra stared at him.

"You're laughing?"

He shook his head.

"Sorry."

He placed the silver blade inside his coat.

"You're not supposed to know about any of this."

Ashra tilted her head.

"But I do."

Rusof looked up at the dark sky.

For centuries, the rule had been simple. Humans must never know.

But tonight, everything had gone wrong. The hunters had appeared. Ashra had been there. And now the truth stood between them.

Finally, Rusof spoke again.

"What you saw tonight stays between us."

Ashra raised an eyebrow.

"So that's it?"

Rusof looked back at her.

"What else do you want?"

Ashra hesitated. Then she asked the question that had been burning in her mind.

"Are there more like you?"

Rusof didn't answer immediately. The wind moved through the empty street. Finally he nodded.

"Yes."

Ashra's eyes widened slightly.

"In this town?"

Rusof shrugged faintly.

"Some."

Ashra slowly processed the information.

*Vampires. Real ones. Living in the same town. Going to the same school.*

The thought should have terrified her. But instead she asked another question.

"Do you drink human blood?"

Rusof's expression darkened.

"No."

Ashra looked surprised.

"Never?"

Rusof shook his head.

"Not humans."

Ashra relaxed slightly.

"Good."

Rusof stared at her.

"That's your reaction?"

Ashra shrugged.

"You just saved my life." She looked at him seriously. "I feel like that should count for something."

Rusof didn't know what to say to that. Humans usually reacted with panic.

Fear. Screaming. Running away.

But Ashra simply stood there… talking to him. It was strangely refreshing. And confusing.

Suddenly, Rusof's phone vibrated. He checked the message. His expression immediately became serious. Ashra noticed.

"What happened?"

Rusof looked at her.

"More hunters."

Ashra felt a chill.

"Tonight?"

Rusof nodded.

"They're searching the town."

Ashra's voice became quieter.

"For you?"

Rusof hesitated. Then he answered honestly.

"For vampires."

Ashra looked down the dark street.

"And they almost killed me because they thought I was connected to you."

Rusof didn't deny it.

"Yes."

Ashra sighed.

"Great."

Rusof watched her carefully.

"You should go home."

Ashra nodded slowly. But before she left, she turned back toward him. Her expression was serious now.

"Rusof."

He looked at her.

"Yes?"

Ashra spoke quietly.

"If those hunters come back…" She hesitated, then continued, "will you protect me again?"

Rusof held her gaze. Something about the question stirred something deep inside him. He answered calmly.

"Yes."

Ashra smiled faintly. Then she walked toward her house.

Rusof remained standing in the empty street long after she disappeared inside.

Across town… inside an abandoned warehouse, several figures stood in the shadows. Vampires. Their eyes glowed faintly red in the darkness.

At the center of the room stood Lena Voss. Rusof entered through the broken door. Immediately every vampire in the room looked at him.

One of them spoke.

"The Noir prince arrives."

Rusof ignored the comment.

"Report."

A tall vampire stepped forward.

"Three hunter teams entered Elaridge tonight."

Another added, "They're using silver weapons and detection devices."

Rusof crossed his arms.

"How many?"

The vampire answered quietly.

"At least twelve."

Lena spoke next.

"Too many for coincidence."

Rusof nodded.

"Someone told them about this town."

The room fell silent. A betrayal inside the vampire world was not a small matter.

Finally, Lena looked at Rusof carefully.

"There's something else."

Rusof waited.

Lena continued.

"The hunter who escaped tonight."

Rusof's eyes sharpened.

"What about him?"

Lena's voice was serious.

"He's not ordinary."

Rusof frowned.

"Explain."

Lena took a deep breath.

"He belongs to the Black Thorn Order."

Several vampires in the room reacted immediately. One whispered,

"Impossible."

Rusof's expression darkened. The Black Thorn Order was not just a group of hunters. They were the most dangerous vampire hunters in the world.

Ancient. Relentless. Merciless.

And if they had come to Elaridge… then something much bigger was happening.

Rusof spoke quietly.

"Why now?"

No one answered. Because none of them knew.

Meanwhile… in a dark forest outside the town, the hunter from earlier stood beside a black vehicle. Several other hunters surrounded him.

One asked, "Did you find the Noir vampire?"

The hunter smiled.

"Yes."

Another hunter spoke, "Should we eliminate him tomorrow?"

The hunter shook his head.

"Not yet." He looked toward the distant lights of Elaridge. "There's something more interesting in that town."

Another hunter frowned.

"What do you mean?"

The hunter replied calmly, "The girl."

The other hunters looked confused.

"She's human."

The hunter's smile grew slightly.

"Maybe. But the Noir prince protects her." Then he added quietly, "And that makes her valuable."

The next morning… Elaridge High School looked normal again. Students filled the hallways. Lockers slammed. Teachers shouted. But for Rusof, everything had changed.

Because across the hallway, Ashra waved at him and smiled like nothing had happened.

Rusof walked toward her slowly. She leaned closer and whispered,

"So, vampire prince."

Rusof sighed.

"Please don't call me that."

Ashra grinned.

"Too late."

Then she looked at him seriously.

"Are the hunters gone?"

Rusof shook his head slightly.

"No."

Ashra's smile faded.

"That's bad."

Rusof nodded. Then he said something he had never told a human before.

"It's my job to stop them."

Ashra looked surprised.

"Your job?"

Rusof nodded.

"Vampires like me protect places like this."

Ashra looked around the busy school hallway. Hundreds of normal students walking past them. Living normal lives. Because someone like Rusof was protecting them.

She looked back at him and smiled softly.

"Then I'm glad you're here."

Rusof didn't answer. But something about her words stayed in his mind.

That night… Rusof stood alone on the school rooftop again. Watching the town. Guarding it. But somewhere in the darkness, hunters were watching him too. And this time— they were not planning to run.
