Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 : Unexpected meeting

The rain had started suddenly that evening, tapping softly against the windows of the small café where Aria worked. Most customers had already left, leaving the place warm, quiet, and filled with the smell of coffee and cinnamon.

The café had just closed for the night.

Aria stepped outside, locking the glass door behind her. The street was quiet, lit only by the warm glow of streetlights and the soft neon sign of the café above her head. A cool night breeze brushed past her as she wrapped her cardigan tighter around herself.

She sighed softly and turned to leave—

Then she heard something.

A faint groan.

Aria froze.

The sound came from the narrow alley beside the café.

For a moment she hesitated, her heart beating faster. Slowly, she stepped closer and peeked into the dim alley.

A man was leaning against the brick wall.

Tall. Broad shoulders. Dressed in an expensive black suit that now looked ruined with blood.

His hand pressed tightly against his side.

Aria gasped quietly.

"Hey… are you okay?"

The man lifted his head slowly. His dark eyes met hers, sharp and intense even through the pain.

"You shouldn't be here," he said hoarsely.

Aria took another step closer despite his warning.

"You're injured."

"Go home," he muttered. "This doesn't concern you."

Just then, the distant sound of car engines echoed down the street.

The man cursed under his breath and tried to stand straight—but the moment he moved, he stumbled.

Without thinking, Aria rushed forward and caught him.

Her hands grabbed his arm, steadying him before he fell.

For a moment, his body leaned against hers, heavy and warm. She could feel his heartbeat racing through the thin fabric of his shirt.

"You're losing blood," she whispered.

Their faces were suddenly very close.

Up close, she noticed how striking he was—sharp jawline, dark hair damp with rain, and eyes that looked like they carried a thousand dangerous secrets.

"You should run," he murmured softly, his breath brushing her cheek.

Instead of letting go, Aria tightened her hold on him.

"And leave you here to die?" she said quietly. "Not happening."

She carefully guided and took him inside the cafe.

"Come with me."

She unlocked the café door quickly and pulled him inside, half-carrying him as he leaned heavily against her.

The warm smell of coffee filled the dark café as she shut the door and locked it again.

She guided him to a chair near the counter.

The moment he sat down, he let out a quiet breath of pain.

Aria hurried to turn on a small light behind the counter.

When she came back and gently lifted his jacket, she gasped.

There was a bullet wound along his ribs.

"That's bad…" she murmured.

"It looks worse than it is," he replied, though his voice sounded weaker now.

Aria grabbed the café's first aid kit and knelt in front of him.

For a moment Rafael just watched her.

She looked small compared to him… yet she had just dragged a wounded stranger into safety without hesitation.

Aria quickly pulled a clean cloth .

"You're brave," he said quietly.

Aria glanced up at him.

"Or stupid," she replied.

A faint smile touched his lips.

She carefully cleaned the wound.

The antiseptic burned, and his muscles tensed, but he stayed silent.

"Sorry," she whispered.

Her fingers brushed against his skin as she tied the knot.

For a moment their eyes met and th e air between them felt strangely warm despite the tension outside.

For a moment, Rafael stopped focusing on the pain.

Instead, he watched her.

This girl had found a bleeding stranger in a dark alley… and instead of running, she was saving him.

"You're not afraid of me?" he asked quietly.

Aria glanced up at him.

"I don't even know you."

A faint smile touched his lips.

"You might regret that."

Just then, headlights passed the outside of the cafe and disappeared.

The danger had moved on.

Aria tied the final knot in the bandage and leaned back slightly.

"There," she said softly. "You'll live."

Rafael slowly stood, testing his balance.

Then he looked down at her.

"My name is Rafael."

Aria's eyes widened instantly.

Everyone in the city knew that name.

Rafael. The Mafia King.

"You're joking…" she whispered.

Rafael stepped a little closer, his tall figure casting a shadow over her.

"You just saved my life, Aria."

Her heart skipped.

She blinked. "I never told you my name."

His eyes flicked to the name tag pinned to her café apron.

Then he looked back at her, his voice lower now.

"People who save me don't stay strangers for long."

For a moment neither of them moved.

The night air was cool and calm, but Aria suddenly felt warm under his gaze.

Finally Rafael stepped back. A small, mysterious smile appeared on his face.

"Because next time we meet… it won't be this peaceful."

With that, the Mafia King disappeared into the dark street, leaving Aria standing at her quiet café—

with a racing heart and the strange feeling that this dangerous man had just stepped into her life for a reason. ❤️
