Theo's POV
The moment the instructor left—
Everything broke.
Not physically.
But the atmosphere.
Voices surged back.
Louder.
Less controlled.
"…Did you see that?"
"They actually landed a hit—"
"Against an instructor…?"
"…That's not normal."
I exhaled slowly.
"…Here we go again."
Kairo stretched beside me like nothing had happened.
"Relax," he said. "At least this time they're impressed instead of confused."
"…That's not better."
"Depends," he shrugged. "Impressed people hesitate. Confused people panic."
"…You just made that up."
"Yeah," he said. "But it sounds right."
A small smile tugged at the corner of my mouth—then faded.
The moment passed quickly.
But the feeling didn't.
Something still lingered.
Not wrong.
Just—
Incomplete.
"…You're thinking again," Kairo said.
"…Yeah."
"Shocking."
I ignored him.
Because my focus wasn't on the crowd.
Or the instructor.
Or even the fight.
It was on that moment.
The cut.
The timing.
The coordination.
"…We only landed that because we worked together," I said.
Kairo tilted his head slightly.
"…Yeah?"
"…Individually, we weren't enough."
He didn't respond right away.
Which meant—
He was actually considering it.
"…You're not wrong," he said finally.
No jokes.
No sarcasm.
Just honest.
"…But we weren't trying to win," he added.
"…We were being tested."
"…Exactly."
That changed things.
Because if that was just a test—
Then how far was the real gap?
I looked down at my hand.
At the faint trace of mana still lingering.
Then clenched it slowly.
"…We're still behind."
"Obviously," Kairo said immediately.
I glanced at him.
"…You're not even going to argue?"
"With what?" he shrugged. "Reality?"
"…Fair."
He stretched again—
But this time—
His expression sharpened slightly.
Less playful.
More focused.
"…But we're catching up," he added.
That—
I agreed with.
Before I could respond—
Footsteps approached.
Multiple.
I didn't need to turn.
Class D.
"…Yo," one of them said.
"Since when do you two do that?"
"…Do what?" Kairo replied.
"Don't play dumb," another added. "You know exactly what."
Kairo grinned.
"I really don't."
"…You fought an instructor."
"Technically," Kairo said, "we survived an instructor."
"…That's worse."
I stayed quiet.
Listening.
Because this mattered.
Not the attention.
Not the whispers.
But the team.
"…You've both changed," someone said.
Not accusing.
Just stating it.
"…Yeah," I replied.
No point denying it.
"…Then what about us?" another voice asked.
That made me look up.
Because that wasn't curiosity.
That was expectation.
Pressure.
"…What do you mean?" I asked.
"…If Class D is getting stronger," they said—
"Then we all need to."
Silence followed.
Heavy.
Real.
Because they were right.
This wasn't just about me anymore.
Or Kairo.
If we moved forward—
They had to move too.
Kairo scratched the back of his head.
"…Wow," he said. "We accidentally became responsible."
"…You're not helping."
"I'm processing."
I exhaled slowly.
Then stepped forward slightly.
"…We train," I said.
Simple.
Direct.
"But not the same way."
They listened.
Good.
"…We've been focusing on power," I continued.
"Speed. Output. Force."
I paused.
Then added:
"…But that's not enough."
Kairo glanced at me.
"…You're doing the serious speech thing again."
"…Ignore him."
"Rude."
I continued.
"…We need understanding."
That word again.
The one that changed everything.
"…Magic isn't just strength," I said.
"It's how you use it."
Silence.
Then—
"…So what are you suggesting?" someone asked.
I didn't hesitate.
"…We rebuild from the basics."
Kairo blinked.
"…That sounds painful."
"…It works."
"…Yeah," he admitted. "That's the problem."
A few of them laughed.
Light.
But real.
I looked around at them.
At Class D.
Not weak.
Not incapable.
Just—
Unrefined.
"…If we don't change," I added—
"We fall behind."
No one argued.
Because they felt it too.
That gap.
That difference.
Kairo let out a breath.
"…Alright," he said.
Then smirked.
"But if we're doing this—"
He pointed at me.
"You're teaching."
I paused.
"…What?"
"You started this," he said. "You explain it."
"…No."
"Too late."
"…Kairo."
"Relax," he grinned. "You'll be fine."
"…I won't."
"You will," he said. "You just won't enjoy it."
"…That's not encouraging."
"Wasn't meant to be."
More laughter.
This time—
It stayed a little longer.
The tension shifted.
Not gone.
But lighter.
Manageable.
I exhaled slowly.
"…Fine."
That got their full attention.
"…We start tomorrow," I said.
"Early."
Groans followed immediately.
Kairo laughed.
"Yeah," he said. "You've officially become the worst kind of person."
"…You're part of this too."
"I regret everything."
Of course he did.
But even with the complaints—
No one refused.
Because they understood.
This mattered.
I looked at my hand again.
At the water I could now control.
At the path ahead.
Then—
For a brief moment—
Something flickered.
[Group Synchronization Potential: Detected]
[System Observation: Expanding]
I didn't react.
Didn't acknowledge it.
But this time—
I understood something new.
This wasn't just about me anymore.
If I kept moving forward—
They would too.
And that—
Would change everything.
