Chapter 56 - Pressure Shift

Theo's POV

The room didn't reset.

It tightened.

After Arielle—

There was no easing back.

No pause.

Only escalation.

Riven stood across from me.

Closer now.

No distance games.

No observation phase.

Direct.

"…Now," he repeated.

Not a question.

A decision.

I stepped forward.

Measured.

Calm.

But aware.

This would be different.

Arielle tested control.

Riven—

Would test force.

The instructor didn't speak.

Didn't need to.

The space was already clear.

Defined.

"Begin."

Riven moved first.

Fast.

Faster than before.

No restraint.

The ground cracked beneath his step—

Momentum explosive.

He closed distance instantly.

Too fast for hesitation.

Water formed—

Immediate.

A Water Bomb launched—

Direct.

He didn't dodge.

He broke it.

His fist collided with it mid-air—

The impact froze—

Then shattered.

Ice fragments scattered.

No damage.

No slowdown.

He kept moving.

Of course.

I shifted.

Two blades formed.

Water Daggers.

Spinning edges—

Compressed.

Cutting pressure humming.

He struck first.

A straight punch—

Heavy.

Not precise—

But overwhelming.

I intercepted.

Daggers crossed—

Redirecting force.

The impact traveled through my arms.

Controlled—

But strong.

Too strong.

I slid back.

Minimal—

But forced.

Good.

Now I knew.

Riven didn't refine power.

He maximized it.

Every attack—

Direct.

Every movement—

Committed.

No hesitation.

No adjustment.

Just—

Force.

He stepped in again.

No delay.

Second strike—

Faster.

I pivoted.

Barely.

The punch missed—

But the air pressure didn't.

It hit.

A shockwave—

Small.

But real.

I felt it.

Interesting.

Water shifted behind him.

Four spheres formed.

Heating rapidly.

Pressure rising.

Steam Cloud.

They burst.

Instant.

The arena filled.

Visibility—

Gone.

Murmurs rose again.

Kairo's voice cut through.

"…Same trick?"

"…Watch," Selene replied quietly.

I moved through the steam.

Calm.

Sensing.

Reading.

Riven didn't slow.

Didn't hesitate.

He stepped forward—

Through the steam.

Blind.

But confident.

Predictable.

I shifted position—

To his right.

Water condensed.

Another Water Bomb—

Released.

It struck.

Direct hit.

Ice spread across his arm—

Freezing instantly.

For a moment—

He stopped.

Then—

Cracked it.

Forcefully.

Ice shattered.

His movement resumed.

Unstoppable.

But now—

I had data.

His resistance.

His reaction speed.

His commitment.

Good.

Time to change.

Five circles formed mid-air.

Wide.

Thin.

Perfect alignment.

Water: Boost.

Activated—

Simultaneously.

I moved.

Dropkick form.

Acceleration—

Immediate.

The air split.

Pressure surged.

Riven reacted.

Not by dodging.

But bracing.

He planted his foot—

Mana surged.

He raised his arm.

Impact—

Exploded.

The force collided.

Water boots connected.

Shockwave—

Expanded.

The ground fractured.

Riven slid back.

Two steps.

Then stopped.

Still standing.

Still stable.

Interesting.

I landed.

Momentum gone.

Boost ended.

Water boots vanished.

Silence.

Heavy.

Measured.

Riven looked at me.

Eyes sharper now.

"…That was real."

"…Yes."

He cracked his neck.

"…Good."

He moved again.

Faster.

Stronger.

This time—

Different.

Less direct.

He adjusted.

Mid-fight.

Adapting.

Good.

I stepped forward.

Not retreating.

Matching.

Water shifted again.

Daggers reformed.

Steam still lingering.

Movement blurred.

Clash.

Faster now.

Sharper.

His strikes—

Heavy.

Mine—

Precise.

Each impact—

Calculated.

Each movement—

Measured.

Then—

A shift.

Inside me.

That distortion.

Again.

Stronger.

Clearer.

For a moment—

Everything slowed.

Riven's movement—

Readable.

Predictable.

Like I had seen it—

Before.

My body moved—

Without hesitation.

Without thought.

Perfect.

Too perfect.

I stepped inside his guard.

Daggers crossed—

Then separated.

One strike—

Clean.

Across his side.

Not deep.

Controlled.

Enough.

He froze.

Just for a second.

Then stepped back.

Breathing heavier now.

But smiling.

"…There it is," he said.

"…That's what I was waiting for."

The distortion faded.

Instantly.

Gone.

Like it was never there.

I stood still.

Calm.

But aware.

That wasn't normal.

The instructor raised his hand.

"Enough."

The fight stopped.

Immediately.

No resistance.

Riven exhaled.

"…You're dangerous," he said.

"…Yes."

He laughed.

"…Good."

He turned—

Walking away.

Satisfied.

Kairo walked up.

Grinning.

"…Yeah, I want a rematch with you after that."

"…Later."

Selene approached quietly.

Her gaze—

Focused.

On me.

"…That moment," she said.

"…What was it?"

"…Adjustment."

She didn't respond.

Because she knew—

That wasn't the full answer.

Across the room—

Arielle Virel was watching again.

Not surprised.

Not confused.

Just—

Certain.

Like she understood something the others didn't.

And that—

Was a problem.

Because if she noticed—

Then it wasn't hidden anymore.

And the system—

Wasn't silent.

Not anymore.
