Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Lin Wu Truly Has the Capital to Attract You

It was Feng Tinglin's voice.

Rong Ci looked toward the source of the sound. It was indeed Feng Tinglin and Feng Tingshen.

Her footsteps faltered.

Feng Tingshen was smoking, offering no reply. He was standing with his back to the light at a considerable distance, making it impossible for Rong Ci to see the expression on his face.

"Actually, I can understand you," Feng Tinglin continued. "I've met Lin Wu a few times. I heard she's only twenty-five but already has a PhD from a top-tier global university. She even seems to handle her family business well.

She's beautiful, and her personality is wild and untameable that kind of excellence and brilliance is something most women lack. She truly has the capital to attract you. But her background isn't exactly honorable. Tingshen, have you thought this through? You"

"I know exactly what kind of woman I want," Feng Tingshen interrupted.

"But" Feng Tinglin frowned. Although she looked down on Rong Ci, she didn't think much of Lin Wu either. She wanted to say more, but seeing the displeasure in Feng Tingshen's eyes, she didn't bother. "You're so protective of her, I can't even say a word. Fine, I'll shut up."

Rong Ci listened, her hands clenched tight. The night wind brushed against her face with a stinging cold. With a bitter smile, she lost interest in hearing any more and turned to leave.

Just as she walked away, Feng Tinglin remembered something. "By the way, Rong Ci said she submitted her resignation and is preparing to leave the company?"

"The afternoon before yesterday, Cheng Yuan told me she made a mistake," Feng Tingshen said. "Cheng Yuan was quite angry, so I told him to follow company procedure and fire her."

Feng Tinglin sneered. "So that's how it was. When she mentioned it earlier, her tone made it sound like she was the one resigning. I was wondering... with that clingy, plaster-like personality of hers, how could she possibly be willing to take the initiative to leave? Turns out she was fired. Haha~"

Feng Tingshen didn't respond, acting as if the matter had nothing to do with him.

Rong Ci went up to the second floor. As she was about to return to her room, she almost collided with Feng Tingyi, who was heading downstairs.

Both were startled.

Once he regained his composure, Feng Tingyi was the first to apologize. He asked with concern, "Sister-in-law, are you okay?"

Besides the old lady, Feng Tingyi was the only person in the Feng family who treated her with any kindness.

Rong Ci shook her head and smiled. "I'm fine."

When Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen got married, Feng Tingyi was still young and didn't know the details of many things. In the years he had known her, he always thought Rong Ci was beautiful and gentle. Since the wedding, she had never initiated arguments with his brother and was always incredibly patient with him.

If his future wife was like that, he would definitely treat her with the utmost care. It was for this reason that even after he grew up and learned the history of their situation, he still quite liked Rong Ci.

Seeing that she seemed unhappy, and assuming it was related to his brother, he scratched his head and said sincerely, "Sister-in-law, you're such a good person. I'm sure my brother will see that one day. Don't be too sad."

Rong Ci paused. It wasn't easy to explain that they were on the verge of divorce, so she simply smiled. "Mhm, thank you, Tingyi."

"I'm going downstairs for a drink. It's late, sister-in-law, you should get some rest."

Rong Ci smiled. "Okay, goodnight."

Back in the room, Rong Ci turned off the main lights and switched on the dim bedside lamp before lying down. She had only been there for a short while when she heard the sound of Feng Tingshen's footsteps entering the bedroom.

Rong Ci opened her eyes. Feng Tingshen looked at her, and their gazes met.

Rong Ci simply watched him. In the past, she would have proactively stood up to hang his suit, happily found his pajamas, and gone to the bathroom to draw his bathwater...

But now, she had no intention of getting out of bed. Instead, she slowly closed her eyes.

Even though Feng Tingshen didn't care about Rong Ci and was dismissive of her usual attentiveness, her change in attitude was so stark that he naturally noticed her coldness. He was somewhat surprised.

However, he assumed she was merely throwing a small tantrum and didn't take her unusual behavior to heart. He didn't even care to know why she was upset. He said coldly, "Xinxin's enrollment procedures are finished. Take her to school tomorrow morning."

"Understood," Rong Ci replied.

Feng Tingshen said nothing more, turning toward the walk-in closet to find clothes for a shower.

This was his attitude toward her.

Rong Ci watched his back, thinking about the divorce. She wanted to ask when they could finally go to collect the divorce certificate. But Feng Tingshen truly was busy. Given his personality, once the paperwork was ready, he would contact her without her needing to push him.

After all, he was the one who wanted the divorce more. It was precisely because of this that she had spent the past half month quietly waiting for his news, never once rushing him.

Suddenly, Feng Tingshen's phone rang. Rong Ci saw him answer it. That single "Hello" sounded entirely different from when he spoke to her. His tone was gentle.

Rong Ci guessed almost immediately that the person on the other end was Lin Wu.

Just as she thought this, she heard Feng Tingshen release his grip on the closet door. "I'll head over now," he said.

With that, he walked out of the room with quick strides, not even glancing back. Rong Ci watched him leave without calling out to stop him.

A moment later, she heard the sound of a car. Feng Tingshen had left the Old Residence.

Rong Ci closed her eyes, calmly turned off the light, and went to sleep.

The next morning.

Because she had to take Feng Jingxin to school, Rong Ci woke up just after six. She was alone in the room; Feng Tingshen hadn't returned after leaving the previous night.

Rong Ci no longer cared. Her expression was calm as she checked the time. Seeing that Feng Jingxin wasn't up yet, she went over to wake her.

Feng Jingxin's door was locked, so Rong Ci had to knock.

After a long while, Feng Jingxin finally opened the door. Upon seeing Rong Ci, the girl pursed her lips and said unhappily, "Mama, why are you knocking so loudly? You're making my head hurt."

She had spoken with Auntie Wuwu the previous night. Although Auntie Wuwu said that Mama was her mother and it was only right for her to take her to school... Auntie Wuwu's tone had sounded so dejected.

Xinxin felt terribly guilty about it. She had even had several nightmares during the night. Now that she had been woken up by Rong Ci, she was in a foul mood.

Rong Ci watched her daughter lose her temper but didn't get angry. She said calmly, "The school is a long way from here. If you don't get up now, you won't make it in time."

Because it wasn't Lin Wu taking her, Feng Jingxin didn't even want to go to school anymore. She let out a muffled grunt and said nothing. But as willful as she was, she knew she couldn't skip school.

She lay facedown on the bed, looking miserable. "I know."

She lay there for a few seconds without moving, then looked at Rong Ci. "Mama, squeeze the toothpaste for me."

"Mhm."

Once Rong Ci went into the bathroom, Feng Jingxin picked up her phone and sent a good morning message to Lin Wu. Only then did she follow her mother into the bathroom, picking up the toothbrush Rong Ci had prepared.

As Xinxin was finishing, Rong Ci heated a towel with hot water, wrung it dry, and handed it to her to wipe her face. She then opened the wardrobe and asked, "Which outfit do you want to wear?"

Feng Jingxin glanced over and said, "Mama, I can change my clothes myself. You go out first."

Rong Ci closed the wardrobe. "Alright."

After Rong Ci left, Feng Jingxin fished out the clothes she had specifically brought from home the day before. It was a super cool camouflage outfit that Auntie Wuwu had picked out for her.

She was going to wear this today to cheer Auntie Wuwu on!
