Chapter 23: Expansion
Alicia quietly observed her world.
The forests had grown dense and stable.
The rivers moved naturally across the land.
The plains were active with life, while the highlands had become a harsher but fully functional region of their own.
Humans had formed a primitive settlement.
The beasts had their own social structure.
Soul Power flowed through the planet steadily, and the newly integrated Regional Energy Balancer had made everything feel even more connected.
At this point, her world no longer felt incomplete.
It felt… ready.
So Alicia opened the requirement list again.
[Primitive Planet Requirements]
Increase planetary diameter to 500 ❌
Form stable freshwater and land cycles ✔
Create at least 3 complete environmental zones ✔
Nurture at least 2 intelligent life communities ✔
Reach a sufficient planetary Soul Power density ✔
Unlock and integrate one new planetary function ✔
Alicia stared at the screen for a few moments.
Then she thought:
"…So now it's just this one."
Only one requirement remained.
Diameter.
Simple in theory.
Probably expensive in practice.
Which, in Alicia's growing experience, was basically the system's favorite personality trait.
Still, this was the final step before advancement.
And she had no intention of stopping now.
Alicia immediately opened the System Shop and searched for anything related to expansion.
A blue screen appeared in front of her.
[System Shop]
Available Skill:
[Skill: Planetary Expansion]
Description: Well, it expands planet.
Cost: 300 Life Energy, 20 Space Energy
Alicia stared at the description.
Then stared a little longer.
"…That is somehow the least helpful explanation I've ever seen."
She was almost offended by how lazy it sounded.
Then again, if the skill actually worked, she supposed she could forgive the system for having the communication skills of a brick.
Almost.
Still, the skill itself was exactly what she needed.
And more importantly—
she could afford it.
After all the time she had spent absorbing, converting, stabilizing, and letting her automated functions work in the background, Alicia had built up a decent reserve of both Life Energy and Space Energy.
So without wasting time, she made her decision.
"Purchase Planetary Expansion."
The system responded immediately.
Ding!
[Purchase Successful]
Skill acquired: Planetary Expansion
Alicia opened the skill description at once.
Another blue panel appeared.
[Planetary Expansion]
Effect: Expands the host planet's total diameter.
Cost Rate: 1 Diameter = 100 Life Energy
Alicia went quiet.
Then read it again.
And then one more time, just to confirm she was not hallucinating from overexposure to system menus.
"…Wow."
"That is… painfully expensive."
She did a quick mental calculation.
To reach the Primitive Planet requirement of 500 diameter, she would need to increase her world by a huge amount.
And if the system was being literal—
that meant she was about to spend a ridiculous amount of Life Energy.
Alicia remained silent for a moment.
Then thought:
"…Okay. Fair."
Honestly, if becoming a higher-level planet was cheap, then the whole thing would feel a little suspicious.
And if there was one thing Alicia had learned, it was this:
the system was greedy, but usually not random.
If the price was high, then the result would probably matter.
That was enough.
Alicia shifted her awareness inward and checked her current reserves.
Her stored Life Energy and Space Energy were both healthy, especially after all the natural generation and planetary circulation that had been happening lately.
She had enough.
Not infinitely enough.
But enough.
Which meant there was really only one thing left to do.
Alicia focused on the skill.
Then calmly gave the command.
"Activate Planetary Expansion."
For a moment—
nothing happened.
Then her planetary core began to pulse.
Once.
Twice.
And then a deep, strange vibration spread through her entire world.
Alicia immediately sharpened her focus.
This was not like using Terrain Creation.
This was not local.
This was not subtle.
This was planet-wide.
The land trembled faintly.
Not violently enough to harm life—
but enough for Alicia to clearly feel that something fundamental had begun to shift.
The oceans stretched outward.
The plains broadened.
The forests expanded slowly into newly forming land.
Even the highlands felt like they were being pulled and settled into a larger planetary frame.
Alicia observed everything carefully.
"…Oh."
Then after another moment:
"…Okay, that feels significantly more serious than the description suggested."
The system had once again committed the crime of understating something important.
Alicia was beginning to suspect this was intentional.
As the expansion continued, Alicia could feel Life Energy draining steadily from her reserves.
Not all at once.
But in heavy, controlled amounts.
At the same time, the surrounding Space Energy in the void around her world was also being drawn in, stabilizing the process and helping support the newly expanding planetary shell.
That part caught Alicia's attention immediately.
So it wasn't just "make bigger."
It was more like:
use Life Energy to fuel growth
and Space Energy to stabilize and reinforce it
That actually made sense.
Alicia approved of that.
It felt less like nonsense and more like a proper cosmic mechanism.
The forests adjusted first.
New stretches of land formed naturally around existing tree lines, allowing future growth to spread without damaging the current ecosystem.
The plains widened next, becoming more open and useful for movement and future settlement.
The rivers also shifted, extending their flow across the newly expanded terrain as if the planet itself was trying to preserve balance.
That was likely thanks to the Regional Energy Balancer and the freshwater systems she had already established.
Alicia noticed this and quietly thought:
"…Good. At least everything's not collapsing into chaos."
That would have been deeply inconvenient.
Below, life had also started reacting.
The humans near the river settlement had clearly noticed that something strange was happening.
They looked around in visible confusion as the land itself seemed subtly larger and different than before.
They didn't understand what was happening.
Which was probably for the best.
Meanwhile, the forest beasts reacted in their own way.
Some became cautious.
Some moved to higher ground.
And the silver fox—
of course—
was calmly standing on a rock, looking around like it personally expected the world to obey it.
Alicia stared at it for a second.
Then thought:
"…You are way too comfortable with cosmic-scale events."
At this point, she was no longer sure whether the fox was clever, lucky, or just deeply unreasonable.
Probably all three.
The expansion process continued.
The tremors remained low and controlled.
New stretches of land finished forming at the edges of existing zones.
Nothing was broken.
Nothing was unstable.
If anything, the world felt… broader.
More spacious.
More complete.
Alicia checked her current planetary measurements.
A blue panel appeared.
[Planet Status]
Current Diameter: 431
Alicia paused.
Then looked again.
"…Wait."
That was already a huge increase.
Far more than she had expected from one controlled activation.
Which meant two things:
The skill was very effective.
The cost was still horrifying.
Alicia did a quick calculation again.
She was close.
Very close.
But not there yet.
She needed a little more.
Not much.
Just enough to push past the final requirement.
Alicia looked at her remaining Life Energy reserves.
Then at her Space Energy.
Then back at the diameter number.
She stayed silent for a few moments.
Then thought:
"…Well."
"No point stopping halfway."
Her core pulsed once more as she prepared to activate Planetary Expansion again.
This time, Alicia focused more carefully.
She adjusted her awareness over the entire world, making sure:
the rivers would remain stable
the forests wouldn't lose density
the plains would remain useful for human growth
and the highlands wouldn't become spiritually dry after expansion
This was no longer just about getting a bigger number.
If she was going to expand her planet again, she wanted to do it properly.
She was no longer the confused girl from the beginning who had no idea what she was doing.
She still didn't know everything.
But now?
Now she knew enough to be careful.
And that made a difference.
Alicia slowly gathered her focus.
The energy around her planetary core began to rise again.
Life Energy flowed.
Space Energy stirred.
The world beneath her seemed to hold its breath.
And just before she activated the skill a second time—
the system suddenly rang out.
Ding!
A sharp blue notification appeared in front of her.
[Warning]
Rapid planetary expansion may trigger unforeseen planetary phenomena.
Alicia went completely still.
Then stared at the screen.
"…Excuse me?"
For the first time in a while, Alicia felt something very specific.
Not panic.
Not fear.
Just deep, immediate suspicion.
Because when the system used the words:
unforeseen planetary phenomena
that usually meant one thing.
Trouble.
And unfortunately—
Alicia was now very, very close to finding out what kind.
