Chapter 31: Event Start! Carpet Bombing a Continent of 50 Million!
.....
"What... what kind of skill is that?!"
Maple's eyes were nearly bulging out of her head. Even for a girl who walked through fire without taking damage, seeing a sword pass through a human body like a ghost was too much.
"Kamui?!" Sora shouted, his inner otaku awakening instantly. "Is that literally Obito's Kamui from Naruto? Are you serious right now?!"
In this world, the "Big Three" shonen series—Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach—were cultural cornerstones. Anyone with a passing interest in anime recognized the terrifying, untouchable nature of that space-time ninjutsu.
"Precisely," Seito nodded. He admired the golden hexagram shimmering in his reflection on his blade. "I used my Spatial Talent to re-write the properties of my ring's pocket dimension and anchored it to my optic nerves. When I'm attacked, the targeted area of my body is instantaneously shunted into the void. If someone tries to nuke my entire position, my whole physical form slips out of this reality. I'm essentially a ghost in the machine."
The group fell into a stunned silence. Such a skill was fundamentally "broken." It didn't just mitigate damage; it ignored the very concept of being hit.
"It's... incredibly cool," Sora admitted, his voice dripping with envy. "The eyes, man. If you swapped the blue and gold for black and red, you'd be a walking Uchiha meme. I love it."
Shiro gave a silent thumbs-up, her crimson eyes staring at Seito with a mix of curiosity and "big brother" pride.
"Alright, the clock is ticking," Seito said, his tone shifting to business. "The event starts soon. To maximize our gains, we're splitting up. Sora, you take the West. Shiro, you own the North. Maple, you take the South—Sally, you're on 'Map Coverage' duty. Guide Maple to the densest clusters of players. I'll take the East. Let's sweep the rankings."
"Understood!" Sora grinned. He wasn't worried about the "Big Three" being separated. In this game, they were the hunters, and everyone else was just XP.
...
7:00 PM. The Tenth Floor.
BONG—! BONG—! BONG—!
The sound of massive, ethereal bells echoed across the sky, vibrating through the souls of every player present.
[The 'Carnage Feast' World Event has officially begun!]
[All participants will now be scattered to random coordinates outside the Safe Zone!]
[Duration: 2 Hours.]
[Global Ranking Board: LIVE.]
[Initiating Mass Teleportation...]
In a flash of blinding light, millions of players vanished from the hubs and materialized across the vast, rugged terrain of the Tenth Floor.
Seito opened his eyes and scanned his surroundings. He was standing on a jagged cliffside overlooking a massive valley teeming with players. His teammates were nowhere to be seen.
"Time for some aggressive landscaping," Seito muttered. He kicked off the ground, his spatial wings unfolding as he soared into the air.
[Skill: Breath of the Space Dragon!]
ROAR—!!!
A massive, shimmering vortex of spatial energy erupted from Seito's hands, tearing through the air like a localized hurricane. The blast hit the valley floor, and players didn't even have time to scream before their avatars shattered into data fragments.
[Elimination Count: 2,564]
[Global Rank: 1st]
Seito swiped open the leaderboard.
Sei: 2,564 Kills
Shiro: 2,196 Kills
Sora: 2,067 Kills
Kirito: 1,964 Kills
Maple: 1,867 Kills
Asuna: 1,758 Kills
"Kirito's moving fast," Seito noted with a smirk. "The 'Black Swordsman' isn't slacking."
But Seito had the advantage of flight and massive AoE (Area of Effect). He banked toward the East, raining down spatial distortions and gravity wells.
10,000 kills... 100,000 kills... 1,000,000 kills...
The numbers climbed with terrifying speed. Because the game was only days old, the vast majority of the 500 million players were under Level 20. To Seito, they weren't enemies; they were grass waiting for a lawnmower. He moved like a natural disaster, leaving a trail of empty terrain behind him.
By the end of the first hour, his mana reserves were halfway depleted, but his score was astronomical.
[Elimination Count: 50,000,000+]
[SERVER ANNOUNCEMENT: The player 'Sei' has surpassed 50 Million eliminations! His coordinates are now permanently marked on the World Map. Go forth and claim his bounty!]
"So, I'm the final Boss now?" Seito chuckled. He descended to a clearing, planting his black katana into the earth and resting his hands on the pommel. He didn't need to hunt anymore; the prey would come to him.
...
Tenth Floor: Spectator Zone (Safe Zone).
The area was packed with millions of "dead" players watching the live feeds on massive holographic screens.
"Are you kidding me?! I didn't even see him! Just a flash of blue and I'm back in the lobby!" one player ranted.
"Sei is a monster! 50 million?! That's a tenth of the server!"
"Look at Sora and Shiro, they're right behind him. The Big Three are literally erasing the competition."
"Hey, look at the East feed! Someone just reached Sei's coordinates!"
Back in the valley, the air grew heavy. A group of elite-looking players began to emerge from the treeline, lured by the giant red marker on their maps.
But it was the person in the lead who caught Seito's attention.
"Heh. I should have known you'd be a freak in this game too."
Amou kirukiru—the "Empress"—stepped forward. She was wearing form-fitting leather armor and heavy, glowing power-gauntlets. Above her head, her own stats were visible to those nearby.
[IGN: Empress | Eliminations: 5,000,000]
"Five million kills? Not bad for a girl who's normally 'physical' only," Seito teased, his golden-star eyes locking onto her. "You ready to lose that point streak, Amou?"
Amou slammed her gauntlets together, creating a shockwave. "Lose? I'm here to collect your bounty, Sei!"
