Chapter 80: Leaving the Yukinoshitas, A Chance Encounter with an Old Acquaintance?
.....
Seito stood there, completely bewildered, essentially still processing the feeling of holding the matriarch in his arms. But he had to admit—the "rebound" factor was definitely on par with Haruno's.
Mrs. Yukinoshita, her face flushed a deep crimson, scrambled to her feet in a panic. Without a single word, she beat a hasty retreat and fled the room.
Seito scratched his head. What's up with Auntie? Tripping on flat ground? I truly don't get it!
Ten minutes later, Seito was still sitting in the room waiting. However, the Lady of the house seemed to have vanished into thin air, likely hiding from the sheer embarrassment. Instead, the Yukinoshita sisters walked back in.
"Seito, Mother told us that the discussions are finished. She wants us to head back now," Haruno said, relaying her mother's message.
Seito had a sudden realization. Ah, she's so embarrassed she just wants me out of her sight immediately.
Standing up with a faint smile, he nodded. "Sure, let's head out." After all, she was his future mother-in-law now. To help her save face and recover from the "social death" of that stumble, leaving was the best option. There would be plenty of time later.
The three of them left the villa and piled back into the sedan. As the car pulled away, Mrs. Yukinoshita watched them from a high-floor window, letting out a long sigh of relief. If he had stayed any longer, she might have actually died of embarrassment.
Inside the car...
Seito leaned in close to Yukino and reached out to pat her head with a teasing grin.
"Don't worry, 'Flatty.' Even though you're... well, flat, I won't hold it against you!"
"Go to hell, Pervert-kun!" Yukino slapped his hand away, glaring at him with a ferocity that quickly transitioned back into her trademark cold elegance.
"Hehe, Seito, you really aren't honest, are you?" Haruno remarked, glancing back at them.
"You've known my personality for a long time," Seito shrugged.
"Well, now that we're engaged and I'm officially your fiancée, isn't it a bit inappropriate to have other people living in your house?" Haruno asked with a sharp, knowing smile.
"It's still early! I've got at least a year before that's official!" Seito reminded her.
"But we can live together first! I'll move in as soon as we get back, or you can move into our place," Haruno chirped playfully.
"Hmph!" Yukino snorted. Although she maintained her cold exterior, she was internally cheering for her sister's
suggestion to get Seito under their roof.
"Not yet," Seito shook his head. He was a professional "Love Master" with plans. If he didn't cast a wide net, how could he achieve his grand ambitions?
Haruno smiled, though she felt a tiny pang of jealousy. Most people want to occupy someone exclusively, but knowing Seito, she had already adopted a more "Zen" attitude. As long as her mother didn't force her to marry some random stranger or a greasy old businessman, she was satisfied.
"Why don't we eat out for lunch? We can go shopping afterward and take a break from the game today," Haruno suggested. Since today was technically their engagement day, a celebration felt appropriate.
"I'm down," Seito agreed. He was already at the Level 40 cap, so missing a day of grinding wouldn't hurt his standing.
The driver dropped them off at the side of a bustling road. As the car disappeared, Haruno pointed toward a nearby alleyway filled with the atmosphere of daily life. They stepped into the lane and almost immediately, Seito spotted a familiar figure.
It was a middle-aged woman. Though her features were refined, her face was etched with exhaustion, making her look older than her thirty-some years. It was Yaeko Nishimiya, the mother of Shoko Nishimiya.
She was currently speaking to a stern-looking landlady, her expression bitter and pleading.
"Is that... Auntie Nishimiya?"
Hearing his voice, Yaeko looked over. "Seito-kun?"
"It's me!"
Years ago, Seito and the Blank siblings had visited the Nishimiya household. Yaeko recognized him instantly but quickly shook her head, embarrassed by her current state.
"Auntie, what happened?" Seito asked as he and the Yukinoshita sisters approached, his eyes flickering toward the impatient landlady.
"What do you think happened, kid?" the landlady snapped. "Her rent is up, and I'm kicking her out!"
Seito turned to Yaeko with a questioning look.
"Sigh," Yaeko sighed heavily. "Seito-kun... I just bought a VR set for Shoko a few days ago, but the salon where I worked went bankrupt yesterday. I'm a bit short on cash right now. I'm sorry you have to see me like this."
Yaeko didn't try to hide her shame. Her family could have lasted another month or two, but when God's Domain was released, she spent her last savings on a headset for Shoko. She had thought... Shoko can't speak in reality, but in the game world, she should be able to. Despite her strictness, she loved her daughter dearly. But that choice had left her with zero savings on the exact day the rent was due.
