Chapter 8 - THE BRIDGE OF JUDGMENT

The bridge was a spine of ancient, calcified bone stretching over a chasm filled with roiling purple mist. At the far end, the Great Mountain of Shinkai stood like a silent titan, its peak draped in golden clouds. But the path was blocked.

Four figures stood on the bridge, their presence so immense that the air itself felt heavy, as if the gravity around them was doubled.

In the center was Mu Dan, his regenerated arm now glowing with a faint violet hue. To his left was Tao Fa, a Tensen whose hair was made of shimmering silver vines. To his right stood Zhu Jin, a being of pure, flickering orange light that looked like a humanoid flame. And behind them, silent and brooding, was Rien, the oldest of the Tensen, holding a staff of dark, knotted wood.

"The Iron Lotus was a relic," Mu Dan spoke, his voice carrying across the chasm like a thunderclap. "But we are the soul of this island. You step onto this bridge as a man, Raizen Kuro. You will leave it as dust."

"Stay back," Raizen whispered to Yurina and Vane. His gray eyes were fixed on the four gods. He could feel the Wang Energy in his heart pulsing in a slow, steady rhythm. It wasn't the wild, burning fire from before; it was a cold, focused stream.

"Kuro, you can't fight four of them at once!" Yurina shouted, her hand trembling on her sword hilt. "It's suicide!"

"I'm already a dead man, Yurina," Raizen said, stepping onto the bone-bridge. "I've been dead since the day I failed my clan. Today, I just find out which god is strong enough to keep me that way."

Without a word, Zhu Jin lunged. The fire-Tensen moved like a solar flare, a streak of orange light crossing the bridge in a millisecond. He struck with a flaming palm, aiming for Raizen's throat.

Ninjutsu: Mist-Mirror.

Raizen didn't block. He pivoted, his body becoming a blur. The flaming palm passed through an afterimage of silver smoke. As Zhu Jin overextended, Raizen grabbed the Tensen's wrist.

Wang Energy: Frost-Pulse.

A wave of cold, silver energy shot from Raizen's hand. For a second, the flames of Zhu Jin's arm flickered and turned to ice. The Tensen shrieked, pulling back as his limb began to crack.

"How?!" Zhu Jin roared, his body reigniting in a pillar of blue flame. "A human cannot extinguish the Tao!"

"I'm not extinguishing it," Raizen said, his voice a low growl. "I'm just changing the weather."

Before Zhu Jin could strike again, Tao Fa unleashed a barrage of silver vines from his hair. The vines whipped through the air like razor-wire, seeking to shred Raizen's flesh.

Raizen drew his katana. The blade was almost entirely covered in a humming silver mist now. He moved through the storm of vines, his sword a blur of circular parries. He wasn't just cutting the vines; he was using the Wang Energy to vibrate the steel at a frequency that made the vines shatter on contact.

CLANG. SHINK. CLANG.

"Enough!" Mu Dan screamed, his pride wounded.

He clapped his hands together, and the very bones of the bridge began to rise. Giant, skeletal hands erupted from the bridge floor, grabbing at Raizen's legs. At the same time, Tao Fa and Zhu Jin attacked from both sides.

Raizen was trapped. The skeletal hands held his ankles, Tao Fa's vines were closing in, and Zhu Jin was diving from above like a falling star.

"Ninjutsu... Forbidden Art..." Raizen closed his eyes. He stopped resisting the hands. He stopped fighting the vines. He reached deep into the core of his heart, touching the very center of the silver whirlpool.

"Break," he whispered.

Wang Energy: The Hollow Domain.

A massive dome of silver energy exploded from Raizen's body. It wasn't a blast of force; it was a zone of "Nothingness." Anything that touched the dome—the bone-hands, the silver vines, the blue flames—was instantly erased. It was as if Raizen had created a small pocket of the Void on the bridge.

The Tensen were thrown back, their bodies reeling from the sudden loss of energy.

Raizen stood in the center of the bridge, his clothes tattered, blood dripping from his ears. The Wang Energy was taking its toll. Every cell in his body felt like it was being replaced by light.

"You're empty," Rien, the silent Tensen, finally spoke. He stepped forward, his staff hitting the bridge with a sound that vibrated the world. "You have achieved the state of the Hollow. But a hollow vessel cannot contain the soul of a god for long. Your heart will burst before you reach the peak."

"Then let it burst," Raizen said, pointed his sword at Rien. "But I'm taking all of you with me."

Suddenly, a strange sound echoed from the mountain—a low, melodic hum that made the flowers on the island glow with a blinding white light.

The Tensen froze. Their expressions turned from rage to absolute terror.

"The Mother..." Mu Dan whispered. "She is awakening."

A massive vine, thicker than a castle tower and covered in glowing runes, erupted from the mountain and slammed into the center of the bridge, separating Raizen from the Tensen. The force of the impact sent a shockwave that threw everyone backward.

"The test is over," a voice echoed—not from a person, but from the island itself. "The Hollow One has proven his worth. Bring him to the Heart."

The Tensen looked at Raizen with hatred, but they didn't move. They bowed their heads, their golden eyes dimmed.

Raizen looked at Yurina and Vane. They were safe, but the look on Yurina's face was one of pure heartbreak. She knew that the man she was shadowing was no longer the man she had met on the scaffold.

Raizen turned toward the Great Mountain. The path was now open. The Calyx of Immortality was waiting. And so was the thing that ruled this Paradise.
