Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – The Girl Who Listens to the Wind

"Luna...."

The wind moved through the park, whispering secrets only Luna could hear.

It moved through the quiet streets like it knew the town too well.

It brushed the trees.Rattled old signboards.Carried the smell of tea and dust from the small shops near the main road.

Luna liked that wind.

She always said it sounded like the world whispering.

Sometimes…

it almost sounded like it was whispering to her.

Right now, she was sitting on the grass in the small park near her house, holding a camera in both hands. Her knees were pulled close to her chest as she adjusted the lens.

Click.

The camera captured the sky.

Soft orange light stretched across the clouds. The sun was slowly disappearing behind distant buildings.

Luna lowered the camera and looked at the picture on the screen.

"Nice," she murmured quietly.

Luna was sixteen.

Long dark hair fell down her back in loose waves, slightly messy like she never bothered fixing it properly. Her calm grey eyes always looked like they were watching something others missed.

She wore a white oversized hoodie and loose black jeans. A small camera hung around her neck with a worn black strap.

The park around her was peaceful.

A dog barked near the walking path. Two old men argued about tennis near the tea stall.Children ran across the grass, chasing a football.

Normal.

Comfortable.

Alive.

Luna lifted her camera again.

Click.

This time the picture showed the old wooden bench near the middle of the park.

It was nothing special.

Faded paint.A crack along the backrest. One leg slightly shorter than the others.

It tilted slightly when someone sat on the edge.

Still,

Luna had taken many photos of that bench.

More than thirty.

For some reason…

it never felt empty.

Footsteps approached from behind.

"Luna! You are here again!"

She turned.

Kai jogged toward her across the grass, full of energy like always.

His black hair stuck out in every direction, his school jacket hanging loosely over a grey t-shirt. His backpack bounced on one shoulder as he ran.

He stopped in front of her, slightly out of breath.

"You seriously skipped club again."

"I did not skip."

"You disappeared."

"That is different."

Kai dropped his bag beside the bench and sat down heavily.

"You always come here."

"It is peaceful."

Kai looked around.

"Peaceful? There are children screaming and old people arguing about tennis."

"That is background noise."

Kai stared at her.

"You say weird things."

Luna smiled faintly.

She stood and walked toward the bench again, raising her camera.

Click.

Another photo.

Kai leaned back, watching her.

"You know what I think?"

"What?"

"I think you secretly believe something magical will happen here."

Luna lowered the camera.

"Maybe."

Kai groaned.

"Oh no. Not this again."

"You always talk about wind whispers and hidden meanings."

"The world is full of hidden meanings."

Kai pointed at the bench.

"That is a bench."

"It is a peaceful bench."

"It's a piece of wood!!"

Luna laughed softly.

The wind moved through the park again.

This time… it lingered.

Just for a second longer than usual.

Luna looked up.

Sometimes the wind carried strange sounds.

Not loud.

Just soft.

Almost like....

voices.

For a brief moment…

she thought she heard something.

Faint.

Unclear.

Gone.

Kai noticed her expression.

"You heard something again, didn't you?"

"Maybe." she replied.

"You always say maybe." Kai Stared her.

"Because sometimes it is true." Luna nodded.

Kai shook his head.

"You are impossible."

Luna sat down on the bench beside him.

The wood creaked slightly beneath her.

For a second,

it felt colder than it should have been.

The sun dipped lower.

Orange turned to purple.

Streetlights flickered on.

The park slowly began to empty.

They sat quietly.

Watching.

Listening.

The wind passed through again.

Luna's fingers rested lightly on the bench.

Something about it felt strange.

Not scary.

Just…

familiar.

Like it was holding something.

Waiting.

Kai stood up, picking up his bag.

"My mom will yell if I get home late."

"See you tomorrow."

He walked backward, grinning.

"Try not to talk to benches."

"No promises." Luna shouted back.

Kai left.

The park grew quieter.

Luna stayed.

Just for a minute longer.

She lifted her camera again.

Click.

The bench appeared on the screen.

She stared at the photo.

Something about it felt…

important.

She couldn't explain why.

After a moment, she lowered the camera and started walking home.

Behind her...

the wind moved through the trees.

Soft.

Slow.

And the old bench sat in the fading light.

Silent.

Still.

For a brief second,

the wood creaked.

The bench shifted.

Not from wind.

Not from Kai.

Someone… was there.
