Chapter 8 - In The Game

Lily chipped in, "Hey! My turn! Tristan and Alicia are with me. Then up next is Damon."

Terry replied, "You are with Stan. So Susan Pick." Ouch!

Susan answered, "Damon and Peter it is. Welcome on board mates. Are you ready?"

Damon was, he didn't understand why. Peter had a shy side exposed to them. It was clear he was the psychic one. They walked over to the entrance of their roads, Stan and Lily watched them walk away through the roads.

Chris, Olivia and Kayla walked quietly, Chris asked. "Which of you is psychic here? Now would be a good time to point out any changes or direction switches."

Kayla replied, "This game is about competition, it's not about unity." He turned to her, then took his eyes to Olivia.

"Explain it briefly, I don't understand." He said.

"Well, first we are looking for what we call the gold coin. It's a small coin you could barely see, this stage is called the coup stage because someone would have to kill or be killed. In this part, I think it's to be killed."

Olivia asked, "So you are saying, one of the others would want to over throw their group leader to get the coin?"

"Yes, at a price. The gold coin. That's all that matters. It may be us or the others. We have to ignore any form of self pleasure, this place will mess your thoughts up."

Chris asked again, "How do you know this? Have you played the game before?"

"No I've not, but I knew we were coming here. I saw this while thing, a lot of betrayal will take place it will tear us apart. We must stay focused. This game is haunted, just in case you start seeing ghosts or even hear voices of your passed loved ones, it's a trick. Don't fall for them at all." Kayla replied.

Chris and Olivia stare at her, their hearts beat faster. Chris said, "Okay then, let's move. At least you know a thing or two about this." She stopped him by holding his arm.

"Wait. Chris, you might be the first to die. This road is made just for you, when you all were making the selections I knew you would be here. Don't go further yet, Wait here and watch. There's a flag we need to get first. Only the psychic one can see it. Even Olivia will have to stop at some point. The only way to escape this alive is if one of the teams shared can access the next level called the scar stage."

He stood there thinking and listening to every word she said, he replied, "Really? Okay then. Get the flag and bring it back, thank you. Olivia guard her please."

Olivia replied, "Right with my brain." Kayla and Olivia walked away to the front, they disappeared into the fog. He stood watching both the path they walked through and the path they were walking into.

Olivia asked, "What should the others expect when they walk through theirs?"

"The exact same thing, but the only difference is the second road is the deadliest. They'll be the ones to qualify us for the scar stage. They'll leave with scars."

"Wow, well I'm glad I followed this one. What's next?" She asked.

"After the fog, you must wait directly after it. Then I'll walk straight to get the flag."

Another part of Olivia watched out for the quiet Kayla, she didn't trust this girl for a second especially after she spoke about the betrayal. Still she replied, "Alright then, let's do this."

Shortly after, they walked past the fog. They saw the water at the front. Kayla moved forward like the saviour she felt she was, she looked into the water and looked around too. Surely the flag would be around here somewhere.

She turned and noticed that another path was open, it was the second. They already got the flag. She turned to Olivia, "Olivia! They got the flag we lost!" Sadly, it wasn't the way she saw it. She wanted to take the lead but her own selfishness got in the way.

Chris got impatient, he got a text from Amber telling him to go get Kayla. She was trapped in her own mind. A trance at the front of the flag. It was a trick, from the board she could see how far they've gone.

Chris ran through the fog and saw someone inside calling his name. It was his mother, she died when he was seven, he still had the wound unhealed. He stopped, he turned to her. She walked close to him, she held his face. He looked into her eyes, she said, "My baby, look how big you've grown. My Christopher. I've missed you."

He didn't believe it, it was her. His mother. She held him saying, "Come with me. We need to leave now." He started walking with her but unexpectedly he stopped walking, he withdrew his hand back from hers. She turned around to look at him.

He said, "Stop. No I have to save Kayla. And Olivia."

She looked at him sadly almost tearing up. "What about me?"

 "You are dead."

A sudden silence hit the fog. He blinked and looked again, she wasn't there and he was in front of Olivia instead. She snapped her fingers in his face and he stepped out of the trance he was in. "Quick, we have to get to Kayla. I'm sure the others are stuck like us. If we can get to the flag and tag it properly, they'll be dead soon."

They ran towards Kayla but Olivia got stuck in hers. She saw her dead sister, she held her hand out for her to reach it. Chris knew it was the same thing he experienced so he dragged her with him immediately. They got to Kayla, she was almost dried up. Her skin developed a few wrinkles.

Chris stood in front of her, "Kayla! Kayla!" He shook her body till she snapped out of it. She blinked and her body came back to normal fast. Her eyes saw the flag and she took it. She placed it on the tree and the four roads opened.
