Sairis's POV
Loreen opened his mouth. Then closed it. He pressed his hand flat against the mattress and looked down for a moment, his jaw tight. "God's blood."
He looked back up at Sairis. "I am sorry I did not recognize you. I am sorry it took me this long." Loreen muttered.
He reached out and took Sairis's hand, wrapping his fingers around it like he needed something solid to hold onto.
Sairis looked at him for a moment, then rolled his eyes. Of course. Of course Loreen's first instinct was to take the fault upon himself and sit in it.
Even Sairis had not recognized him. Neither of them had known.
The room had been dim enough that making out faces was not easy, and to be fair, Sairis had gone the extra mile to make sure he would not be recognized by wearing a disguise.
"You do understand that I am not laying blame on you for any of it, do you not," he said. "What happened was in the past. This is the present."
