Sairis's POV
Loreen's frown deepened, clearly thrown by the change in direction.
"A bit. He was supposed to marry my mother's sister, but it did not work out. So he married my mother instead." He said it simply, the way a person repeated something they had heard once and never thought too hard about.
Sairis almost smiled. Loreen knew the short version. The cleaned and folded version that families kept to avoid difficult conversations.
He didn't blame whoever had chosen to tell it that way.
"Your mother disguised herself as her elder sister," Sairis said.
"In the very first meeting with your father. Her sister had refused the match and wanted no part of it, so your mother stepped in wearing her face instead."
Loreen was very still. He was listening.
"The plan was to keep peace between both families and then slowly find a way to convince your father to break the engagement without anyone losing honour over it." Sairis continued.
