Sairis's POV
Sairis arched a brow. So the librarian truly disliked him enough that he did not want Sairis returning to the royal archives.
Because it had not felt like a jest when the man was telling him to step down from the upper level before he called the guards.
It had not felt like a jest when he told Sairis he was being kind by giving him the chance to leave on his own feet.
Sairis shook his head. "It did not feel that way when you were asking me to leave while you were still being kind," he said.
Edgar's eyes widened immediately. "He threatened you?" he asked in surprise.
Sairis quickly bit back the answer that almost escaped him. He did not know if saying yes would bring serious trouble to the keeper.
He watched Edgar's face tighten and felt a small and quiet pull of something that was not quite guilt but was close enough to give him pause.
So he sighed inwardly, and shook his head lightly instead. "No, Edgar," Sairis said quietly.
