Sairis's POV
Sairis pulled out the fourth record book and began turning through the pages. This one covered the reign of Loreen's paternal grandmother. He placed it back and reached for the next one.
The first two pages of the new record spoke of Loreen's aunt. He was about to set it aside when he turned the page and saw her name.
Athena Cavill.
He sat up straighter and kept reading. The pages that followed covered her illness first. A blood sickness, the physician had recorded.
She had lived eight months after the initial diagnosis, and from the account written here, she had been managing well enough that there had been reasonable hope she might live longer.
Then came the poisoning.
The record stated plainly that she had been poisoned by Lord Locke. Her trusted friend. The investigation had been quick and the conclusion had been recorded without room for doubt, or so whoever wrote it had believed.
