Sairis's POV
By the time Sairis reached the royal granary, the afternoon sun was already sitting high.
He had spent the entire morning moving through the market, speaking to merchants who dealt in grain, firewood, cloth, oil and most of the other items on Cedric's list.
He had been careful about how he asked his questions, keeping things casual and unhurried, presenting himself as someone making general inquiries rather than someone gathering evidence.
By the time he was done, he had a clear enough picture of what things actually cost to know that Cedric's figures had been stretched far beyond anything reasonable.
The royal granary was the last stop before he went to check for the lamp oil. He had saved it on purpose, because he already knew from the royal records that Cedric sourced his grain from here.
Sairis wanted to see the purchase records himself before drawing any final conclusions.
