Sairis's POV
Sairis looked at him, then let it go with a breath. There was no point in dwelling on what had already passed. "Where is the supply master now," he asked.
"Being held," Edgar said. "The regent had him taken three night ago after he tried to pass this list for approval."
"Good," Sairis said. He picked up the papers again and turned to the grain entry. "Two hundred and fifteen sacks," he said again, quietly. "There are no wolves living in this palace, Edgar. So who exactly has been eating all this grain."
Edgar looked at him. "That," he said, "is exactly what we need to find out."
"The regent asked me to find someone trustworthy," Edgar continued. "Someone who can go through that list properly and find out where the numbers have been inflated and by how much. He also wants to know if this goes further than just the supply master, or if the man was working alone."
