Chapter 3 - The Man in White

Just as Geto was thinking about how to find the person responsible for destroying the spirit in the alley, a loud, explosive bang suddenly rang out in the distance, followed by the sound of walls collapsing, causing Geto to let out a heavy sigh.

"I guess that settles it then…"

He then ran at a fast pace, focused, through several streets from which he had just heard the loud bang and turned into a side alley as a shortcut.

As he ran through the narrow, dark alley, he could already see something in the distance on the other side that looked like a large construction site, when he suddenly heard a loud and clearly angry voice.

Geto sensed the presence of a first-level Curse nearby and hurried even faster, as whoever that person was was most likely in grave danger.

A few moments later, as he ran out of the side alley, he could see a figure standing at the entrance to the construction site that looked like a young woman who seemed to be watching something inside the site that he couldn't yet see from where he stood now.

One thing, however, seemed strange right away.

The young woman didn't seem to be trembling with fear, nor did she look like she needed help.

She just seemed to be standing still, looking in one direction. Geto could sense, however, that the Curse was very close and walked up behind the young woman, who hadn't noticed him yet.

"Hey, young lady! You must leave this place immediately, it's not save here"

As soon he said this, the young woman turned around with a nervous and shocked expression on her face which briefly confused him, as she suddenly spoke hurriedly

"What?... Oh no, stop! Please, whoever you are, you must move away from me immediately"

Geto stopped immediately about 15 meters away from her, while the presence of the curse was immediately palpable and looked the young woman in the face with a focused gaze.

The chance that a curse uses a human as bait to lure even more humans was low but not zero.

"Don't worry, everything will be all right. If that cursed spirit is using you as bait in some way, you have to tell me so I can help you."

But the woman seemed completely unaffected by his words, as she now appeared even more nervous.

"Please… you don't understand. If he sees me talking to another man, he will..."

Geto didn't quite understand what she meant, as it suddenly sounded as though she was afraid of something other than the cursed spirit.

But before he could ask her anything else, he sensed the presence of the Curse about 50 meters ahead of him on his right and turned around immediately, his face widening in sudden confusion.

A man with white hair and strangely looking clothes stood on the asphalt paved ground. Surrounded by collapsed debris, he was holding the first-grade Curse with one arm raised above his head, while the curse was striking at him to no apparent effect, when in the next moment he sent the cursed spirit flying into the sky with seemingly absurd force as the in a distorted voice screaming Curse was launched higher and higher into the sky until he was out of sight.

"Did he just... wait, that's the person with zero cursed energy. That level of strengh... what kind of absurd heavenly restriction does that man have!?"

Geto watched as the man turned toward him the next moment, whereupon he looked at Geto and the young woman with his golden, shimmering eyes and a look of shock on his face.

The woman trembled slightly as Regulus's gaze met hers and he began to walk slowly toward her, seemingly ignoring Geto completely for the time being, though Geto was scrutinizing him closely.

Barely a moment later, she also walked toward the man with her head bowed, her breathing uncontrolled.

When the two stood directly in front of each other, Regulus looked at her with an annoyed expression, while she couldn't even meet his gaze, whereupon he spoke up in an arrogant and wrathful voice.

"Honestly, not only do you have the audacity to interact with another man while I am being attacked by lowly creatures, but you also dare to converse with that same man right before my very eyes..."

" I'm going to ask you this just once. Why do you think that, as one of my beloved wives, you're allowed to simply look at or even speak to another man besides me without my consent? you're violating my right of marital fidelity!"

Meanwhile, the young woman stood silently, her head still bowed, whereupon he reached out with his hand and lifted her chin, forcing her face up toward him so he could look into her eyes.

He now looked her straight in the eyes as a broad smile spread across his face, and he continued speaking with a smile.

"That aside... Don't you think you've just forgotten something fundamental, Number 215? No smiling, no crying, no fear, no anger, and no joy!"

Meanwhile, the young woman stood silently, forcing her expression into a neutral look.

"I really don't like to meddle in other people's relationships, but don't you think you're being pretty harsh on this woman?"

Geto spoke in a calm voice, whereupon Regulus let go of the young woman and turned around to face him while looking at him indignantly, crossing his arms behind his back and letting out a loud sigh.
