"Oooooh, quite interesting, put it down, kid," the voice said. "You'll pull something."
A slender silhouette filled the vacant frame, stepping into the room without a sound. A boy, around the same age as Emily, was standing in front of them, yawning while resting his sword on his shoulder. His eyes were gloomy.
Emily wavered. The door dropped on the floor. Emil supported her, trying not to let her fall.
'Now, who the hell is that?'
"What are you doing here, Lysander?" Gwen asked, lifting the locket from around her neck and angling it toward him.
Emil shuddered.
'She knows him...that means.'
"Whoa, the princess herself. I'm sorry, my lady, but this is none of your business. Unless you want to, but I would rather advise against it." He said, while mirroring her.
A white glow started to appear around Gwen, covering her. The room was trembling as if an unknown force was putting pressure on them.
The white glowing lights were as bright as on that day, and the light started to move towards the locket.
FLASHH!!
'Ah, what the hell is that? I can't see anything.'
Emil was trying to cover his eyes with his hand. Emily moved her head away, too. Dr. Aria and Dr. Turner were in the same position. But the guy wasn't even bothered.
After the light dimmed, Emil couldn't believe what he saw. The locket that was around her neck the entire time had now become a sword. But not just any sword. It was the same long blade, white frosted sword.
Emily, still leaning on Emil, broke the silence first. "Did her necklace just become a sword? Is that augmentation?"
Emil looked at Emily, who was battered but still tried to speak those words.
'Well, it looks like it. Sometimes I do feel stupid in front of her. Well, there was a reason she was already in our school's history books.'
"Hm. That brat is really sharp," Lysander said while glancing at Emily for the first time since entering the room. "I like you."
"Who...Who are you calling a brat? I'm the same age as you. And you like me? Flattering, but I'm not interested in sticks and bones." Emily said, taking a step with a wide grin on her face.
The room was silent, well, Emil was used to these kinds of responses. But to anyone else, it was supposed to hit them harder. Like when an annoying kid is getting on your nerves by destroying your game's saved progress. Even Gwen, who was staying focused on watching Lysander, took a glance at Emily.
Lysander's lips curled upwards, and he put his sword down. He raised a hand to his face, shoulders shaking, and laughed.
"Oh yes, that was a good one. I like you even more now." Lysander stopped smiling and looked at her menacingly.
"Stop it, Lysander. Just tell us why you are here." Dr. Turner finally spoke, cutting through all the tension.
"Oh, hey, Doctor. Didn't see you there."Lysander waved at Dr. Turner. "As for why have I come here? Let's see. Protocol violations. The Essentials are not really happy."
Emil leaned forward.
'The Essentials? Hm. Maybe the higher-ups. But what protocol violations does it have to do with how they are handling us?'
Dr. Turner was in total disbelief. Instead of the usual calmness of the man, there was a little worry.
"What are you even talking about? We have handled everything about them within the protocols." His voice had a strain.
"Not really," the lean boy chuckled. "First, Gwen did not report to her immediate Warden. Second, two abominations in three days, and one even breaking through our barriers to reach our facility? That is quite an amazing feat, don't you think, Doctor?"
'He is quite right. I don't know what the hell a warden is, but it must be a higher rank in the facility. Why didn't she report anything? And that abomination is really a mystery, unlike the first one, it was going for a particular purpose.'
"Are you perhaps raising suspicions regarding her or my loyalty to them?" Dr. Turner took a step forward and said in a cold voice.
"Whoa, Doc, calm down. If that were the case, you wouldn't be alive right now."He grinned. "But that is not the case. And that is the reason I have been assigned to bring the siblings to them."
"What do you mean?" Gwen, who had now lowered her sword, asked darkly.
"It means that the appearance of the second abomination has something to do with them. Because that girl over there has two abilities already."
The mood in the room shifted. Dr. Aria was frowning in disbelief. Dr. Turner's face darkened as he looked at the siblings. And Gwen glanced at her, but this time there was a frown on her face.
Emil also tilted his head towards Emily, who was visibly uncomfortable from the pain in her ankle. There was a scowl on her face, too, which was a bit unusual.
'Two abilities? But how is this possible? I thought only one was possible at a time. Well, it's not like I know everything. But judging from their reaction, even for them, that is quite a remarkable feat. What is the other ability she has? And was she trying to hide it?'
Dr. Aria, for the first time, couldn't contain her curiosity, "What do you mean, two? Don't both of them have an ability each?"
'Damn, and here I thought I was discreet. How do they know? Wait, now they are confused. But still, it is damn terrifying that they didn't buy into my lies.'
"Well, everyone thought so, too, Dr. Aria. But the signal from the boy was underwhelming, so it could've been just an interference. And you also must have noticed that after reaching here, that puny signal died too." Lysander pointed out.
'That brat is really getting on my nerves. Who are you calling a boy? You stick. I am definitely older than you.' He gazed menacingly at him.
"On the other hand, she was emitting a tremendous scale, which is not possible from a single source of ability. I hope this answers your question." Lysander continued ignoring Emil's gaze.
"Then what is her second ability?" Dr. Aria nudged her glasses into place, eyes sharpening as she asked.
"Omensight."
The answer came from Gwen.
