The morning was eerily quiet at Nova High.
Kai had barely slept. The memory of Zara's mocking words, the Dragon member's device, and the almost-uncontrolled rage from yesterday still burned in his mind. He tried to focus on school, on pretending everything was normal, but deep down, he knew something was coming.
He didn't know how right he was.
Through the tall windows of the school, five sleek black SUVs rolled into the parking lot. They weren't ordinary officers—they were high-ranking government operatives, wearing dark uniforms with insignias Kai didn't recognize. Their presence radiated authority and danger.
Axel noticed first. "Uh… Kai… those aren't your regular cops."
Kai turned slowly, his eyes narrowing. "I know."
The operatives moved with precision, their movements coordinated, calm but intimidating. Each step seemed to echo through the empty hallways.
"They're here for us," Axel muttered, his voice low. "I think… I think they're arresting us."
Kai's blood ran cold—but not from fear. From fury.
"Arresting us?" Kai hissed. "For what? For surviving? For trying to stop them?" His fists clenched, veins standing out on his arms. "For doing what needed to be done?"
The team entered the school, their boots clicking against the tiles. Students scattered, whispering and pointing, but no one dared get in their way.
One of the officers stepped forward, speaking in a calm, measured tone. "Kai, Axel, you are under arrest for attempted murder of a Dragon organization member. You are to come with us immediately."
Kai's face twisted with rage. Every muscle in his body tensed. He felt the familiar surge of power—the red glow flickering faintly in his eyes—but it wasn't just power this time. It was pure, unfiltered anger.
"No!" he shouted, his voice bouncing off the walls. "You don't get it! You don't understand! She tried to kill us, she tried to take everything from us—and you're trying to arrest us?!"
Axel stepped back, trying to calm him. "Kai… wait—"
But it was too late.
Kai lost control.
His body shook violently as the red glow flared stronger than it had in weeks. Energy pulsed around him, making the air crackle. Desks trembled. Windows rattled. The officers froze, taking cautious steps backward.
Kai's voice thundered through the hall. "I'm done being told what to do! I'm done being hunted! I'm done!"
He slammed his fists into the floor, and a shockwave erupted, throwing nearby chairs and papers into the air. Axel braced himself, but even he was stunned by the sheer force of Kai's outburst.
The officers raised their weapons, trying to contain him—but Kai didn't care. His vision was red, his body fueled by rage, his mind focused on one thing: freedom.
"I won't let you take us!" he roared, his voice shaking the walls.
Leo, who had rushed to the scene after sensing the chaos, tried to reach him. "Kai! Stop! You're going to hurt yourself!"
But Kai didn't hear him. He was beyond reason, beyond control.
In that moment, the line between hero and danger blurred.
The government had arrived to enforce the law.
Kai had arrived at his breaking point.
And Nova High would never be the same.
